Does this look familiar to anyone? The paint is almost all still there. But there are no markings. I am thinking 60’s by the slot head bolts?

Ok, need electrical help. I just installed a gfi receptacle in the garage. I have 120 at both sockets and everything down stream. However, if I use the red probe in the small slot and place the black probe on the little tab where the hold down screw goes, I get 120v. Question is why am I...

    2X questions about timing lights

Hi All, I bought an old induction Snap-On timing light at a garage sale in the hopes it would work. Well I finally got a chance to try it out and it worked-sort of. I was working and then it quit but I had the induction clamp on the plug lead near the plug itself and not the cap. Are these...

    Filtering blast media

So I need to blast some rust off my floor pans to see where the good metal is. I got walnut shells so as to not breathe in silica dust going down the road. So, what is the best way to filter the media after I have used it? I am using a HF 20lb. portable blaster and want to use the media as long...

    Todays haul….

Went to the Monro swap meet today not looking for anything in particular. But did find a few things. The Sears-Penske analyzer is complete and registered on the car battery so hoping the rest is good. I think the speed wrench is a Montgomery Wards tool. I will have to get into body work soon so...

    Tig not working

Hi All, Quick question, my TIG machine does not want to seem to work. This is the first time I have used 220-I previously used 110 on it. I cleaned the metal with a wheel and ground the tip. I was finally able to get it sputter out a few electrons but nothing near an electron stream. I left...

So on the side of my garage is a wood pile/shed/overhang. I would like to expand my garage by turning that area into a wood/electrical shop. The roof is there along with corner supports and a few others. It has a dirt floor and some power. Question is this: would be easier to farm out the...

So I fired up my Century (now Lincoln) MIG welder for the first time after getting it back from the shop. So I am practicing and just figuring out how the things works when it stopped working. It would start to weld (sputter and splatter) and then it stopped welding. All I can get it to do is a...

    ID parts cabinet

I just got this from a guy who got it from a guy who worked on cars. He didn't know anything about it so I am just curious if anyone here does. It is not home made and has slots on the top for small bins that you can resize for parts. I am thinking that the piano hinges were added later but...

welding up holes in my dash

Hello, I am going to install a 'new' dash in my 57 ford where someone punched new holes for a radio. My question is this: how do I fill them in with my MIG or TIG welder? It is probably 18 ga(?) steel and will eventually be hidden by a cover plate. But, it will bug me that they are there so I...

draining oil from a Model M Hein Warner jack

Ok. I just bought a 2 ton Model M Hein Warner long jack. It holds weight as he lifted his F350 front end and it held for a few hours. I didn't see any leaks on the ground-good sign. However, it would seep out of one on the screws on top a little, not a lot but you could watch it. I also...

    scissor jack parts/refurb

Dad got me a scissor jack (60-70's I am guessing) that was frozen from a swap meet. Anyhow I just got it freed up and the jack shaft out so now I can clean it up. So how do I replace the bearing that is on the front 'hub' where the stick/handle goes? I had it soaking in evaporust for weeks and...

I think this is a Blackhawk bottle jack that I got at a yard when I was getting some car parts. I drained out some mocha liquid stuff. So I know it will need a set of new seals and gaskets. It was painted red at some point. mike

    Welding chrome

Quick question as I can’t remember the answer. A coworker needs a chromed bolt welded. I can’t remember is that is bad or not. I know welding either chrome or galvanized metal gives off a harmful gas. Which one is it? Thanks, Mike
