    Is ICON the new Craftsman?

^ This. I don’t see anyone in the Craftsman space pre-internet days. HF probably has the best tool department in my region of northeast Pa. Lowes and Home Depot have decent selections, but automotive hand tool choices are lacking. I see very similar parallels between HF and the sears of my...

Overwhelmed Mom here for help organizing our garage!

Looking closely at the pictures you and along the lines of the other posters you need shelves and totes. You have several bins, cabinets, milk crates, and drawer cabinets of all sizes and shapes. You appear to have high ceilings, I’d start by getting some 8’ or taller pallet racking, a pile of...

HF Series 3 Mix and Match

The box is great, but like you I previously kept all of my drills and impacts on a French cleat style bracket above the box out of the way. I don’t think I’ll mind having them in the drawer, but the two deep drawers next to it don’t seem like there’s an easy way to make use of the space with...

HF Series 3 Mix and Match

I jumped into the Series 3 56” box during the 12 days sale. Slowly but surely moving into it from a series 1 44” box. I am struggling with the oversized depth drawers. I did buy the power drawer add on to make better use of the extra deep drawer. I really cannot find the right mix of tools to...

Mostly tools, but some advice to pass along......

I’m finding better ratchet quality is really making breaker bars not needed. A good long handled ratchet really does all I need. I also find myself not needing cheater handles as much these days, which I only used on breaker bars…

Petersen Dewitt 5WR Vice Grip replacement

I’d suggest Grip on but they don’t do the wire cutting - https://shopgraytools.com/collections/grip-on-locking-pliers/products/grip-on-locking-pliers-curved-jaws if your looking for good 5” locking pliers they are a good start, but if the wire cutter is a deal breaker you’ll need to keep searching.

That same issue may have led to me painting all my crowbars red and yellow!

Multitools - what say you? Aye or Nay?

Like many of the replies, I have an original leatherman. Over time a good use or reason to carry daily never appeared. It lives in my drill driver box. Rather than load up with extra tools I added it to that kit for the pliers. I use them when an impact bit is stuck in an extension or I need to...

Need a new Circular Saw, but what to get?

I have a two battery Makita hypoid saw I bought two years ago as a special at HD that just chews through through 2x stock. I was using it last month to rip 6/4 ash natural edges off so I could run them through the jointer, made a ton of 8’-10’ rips on pair of batteries and had plenty of power...

Need a new Circular Saw, but what to get?

After taking some time to read all the replies, and half of the thread is corded vs cordless. I bought into cordless saws so long ago it seems silly. Thinking about it I had a DeWalt 18v drill and 5 3/8 Saw kit in 1995. The drill was great, the saw not so much. The tech kept getting better and...

18 tools for kids first toolbox

From your original list I’d omit the linesman’s pliers and pick a vice grip flavor of your choice. That said, @Larryg had great advice, buy for the circumstances to smooth the road, not to kit them up like your ideal. I see a variety of house tools mixed with the general junk drawer type stuff...

    Non-Pro's, tool use questions

I struggle with this dilemma often. I have a large collection of woodworking, construction, and mechanics tools along with a smattering of electrical, plumbing, etc. I have tools I haven’t used in years, tile saw as a quick example, but I am hesitant to part with because I see a tile job at my...

Sounds like a set of Williams fit the bill? Looks like they run around $100 in a 10 pc set.

    Mobile Benchtop Tool Cart

I did look at that, it seems like a good deal if storage isn’t a concern. If I roll this out of the way to a wall I end up with a bunch of dead space underneath and above. Thinking of building a flip top bench for it, saw some videos on YouTube and while it may cost the same it may get me back...

    Mobile Benchtop Tool Cart

I have a Dewalt 13“ Planer on a Dewalt folding work table and I’d like to get it on some kind of cart or cabinet where I can roll it out of the way when not in use. I am looking for ideas beyond the box on wheels approach, really trying to maximize my storage space, and even on a storage cart...

Decent but simple pop rivet gun on Amazon?

I have one of these Marson HP-2 rivet guns branded Matco. It does everything I ask of a rivet gun, if I needed to do large or stainless rivets I’d buy a Astro Pneumatic set, their rivnut tools are awesome.

    Unicorn hunt !

I second the masdam rope winch, I bought it for helping pull trees to make sure they fall where intended. I bought a kit with pulling rope from an arbor supply store. It was a little tricky at first to figure out the orientation of everything but man does that thing pull.
