let's see your craftsman block grinders

Picked this up today. Found on marketplace for $50. Got it from the daughter of the original owner. Manual from Vintage Machinery for the 397-19590 is dated 1966. Yes, it came with the water trough also. I was amazed how long it took to stop rotating once turned off. Needed to find a new grinder...

Time for a new bench grinder me thinks

My opinion is find a nice used one. They are out there. My 40 yo or so 1/4 hp no name made in Tiawan grinder that I bought new is starting to make noise. Decided to upgrade to a larger used grinder and put a wire wheel and buffer wheel on the old one. eBay prices seem high, some nice ones on...

How much is cost a factor in your hand tool purchasing decision?

Your age plays a factor also. My view on the longevity aka quality, of a tool is a lot different now being 65 than it was at say 25. But I tend to agree with Pinne’s comments.

A home handyman always looking for solutions

If you can turn the plug a bit each way, my suggestion would be to soak it with your favorite penetrating oil, let it soak a day, then try to turn it that bit you say you can rotate it each way, maybe with a little heat on the housing when you soak it and trying to turn it. May take several...

    New Rockwell 8” jointer

This lady is selling her husbands tools. He recently passed. I bought the RC-33 planer. She still has the jointer, drill presses, grinder and many quality hand tools. They are in their basement shop and the tools look brand new. Her husband bought them new and they have original owner manuals...

    My disc sander experiment

The cutting disc is against the 14” steel disc that the paper disc would be glued to so there will be no side loading. Guess no one ever saw a disc sander with out the paper disc on.

    My disc sander experiment

Since I can get abrasive blades for about 1/2 price of sanding discs, and when I cut metal on my table saw I use the blade to debur the cut, thought I would try one on my trusted Simplex sander. Had to drill and tap the shaft and fabricated a thick spacer washer then a heavy washer to clamp that...

Your Best Tool Purchase in 2025?

Never let a project go to waste by not buying a new tool. Dewalt 9” electric angle grinder, 1/2 price on market place, made the rebuild of a used 8’ bedslide I bought a breeze. Paid for itself on this one project.

    air sander vs. angle grinder

I agree with the flap wheels. Quick removal of material and much nicer finish than the grinder.

Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

Needed to order belts for my Multi Speed and my bandsaw. Thought I would post these 2 sites. Been ordering from both of them for years for all my belt needs and no complaints. Vbelts4less tends to have better pricing for the belts I order by a little bit. Prices are good and you don’t even need...

    Lighting in a "Barn" Workshop

Hardwire definitely . I have 3 rows in my 30x45 polebar, 6 lights per row. Incandescent lights when I bought the place. I now only have those screw in LED lights with 3 or 4 panels in ever other socket and have more than enough light.
