    Lithium ion battery fires.

Looking at some house fire insurance data (totally unofficial and probably highly unreliable), lithium battery fires burned down less than 1 house per day last year. Lightning burned down 16+ per day, statistically speaking.

Dawn or Palmolive; dish soap for non dish purposes?

Dawn is used to flush cooling systems in diesel truck engines that have been contaminated diesel fuel. I’ve also seen Dawn added to railroad tanker cars of magnesium chloride before spraying roads for dust control. Great surfactant. use it on dry spots in your yard to loosen up soil.

    Pouring Model T Bearings

We poured Babbitt in my Dad’s truck shop in the fifties. Countryside was full of GM Babbitt eating farm trucks. It’s been a long time, but I don’t remember it as that bad and I was a teenager. No 10 hour days of scraping that’s for sure. I remember an attachment that went on the Sioux valve...

1100 ft lbs - DIY Torque Wrench Extension

There are readily available formulas for computing torque by adding extensions (cheaters) to torque wrenches. I’ve been using them for years, but for field work I use a beam torque wrench, non flexible cheater, and add 15-20%... gets very close to doing all the math.

Stowing a light utility trailer against the wall

I’ve modified some trailer hitches in past that had square tube hitches by simply using the tube in a tube method, just like a receiver hitch. You can lengthen, shorten, or completely remove ball end of hitch. Always ran anti rattle clips on pins and ran two pins.

Buggered Threads - Will a thread restorer set work?

This tool is amazing for repairing end thread damage. Great for wheel studs. 8-32 to 3/4” thread in one tool. I gave $5 for my first one. Immediately bought two more for service trucks. Think they’re still under $10.

    Cutting metal roofing

I use a 7 1/4 “ circular saw with metal cut off blades. Buy the blades at Lowe’s. Believe they’re 1/8” or 3/32” thick. Slices right through. Fence with 2” x1/4” flat and clamps. I tried the backward metal wood saw blade ONCE. Loud, slow, and the whole panel got hot.

    air compressor oil change interval

I have four compressors. Two gas, two electric. 28 cfm down to 11 cfm. Oldest I’ve had for 45 years, newest about 22 years. All have been used hard, but still operate perfectly. Haven’t changed oil yet in any of them and see no need to.
