    180 Degree Head Lamps

I have two. Absolutely amazing. Rechargeable, 300-1000 lumens adjustable, and comfortable laying on creeper. Shut most of the shop lights off when wearing them. Get pretty warm at a constant 1000 lumens. Usually run mine at 500. Unit will run 4-6 hours at 500 lumens.

    Generator Disassembly

I hang generator with the engine facing down. Rig safety chain or wire with slack so engine won’t hit floor when the two come apart. Spray as much of shaft with 50/50 atf/acetone as possible. Rap end of shaft with brass hammer ( or such) every now and then during day. Usually second or...

    Insulating 2" outdoor water pipe

I’ve helped a couple of friends in the OK and TX areas rig up small circulating pumps on stagnant water storage systems. Usually put them on timer, maybe 4 on, 4 off, or whatever works. Can work in tandem with heat tape and prevents freezing on tank side. Works fine for them in a fairly...

Will this motor work for Air Compressor?

I have basically the same motor and HF compressor fabbed up on a two wheeled cart. No tank. I use to use it to plug into the shop tank when I needed a boost ( ten semi truck tires for example). Worked great. Haven’t used it years, though. I ran a 9” pully on the motor.

Small U-channel made from metal or plastic

I make my plastic/vinyl angle, channel, and ect. out of plastic/vinyl fence posts. Straight edge and rotozip, small skill saw, table saw, or whatever will cut it.

Will this compressor power a 1" impact?

If they are unimount/hub piloted wheels ( 10 nuts), a good 3/4” air gun is all you need. 450-500 lb/ft. I only use my 1” when I run in to budd/stud piloted wheels (20 nuts) and then usually only to loosen the inner nuts. 3/4” much less air and way easier on body.

Magnet for Lifting Heavy Sheets of Metal

I use to handle a lot of 4x8 sheets by myself. I welded on a couple of chain links to hook onto for lifting. Easy to grind off when done. Best trick I learned was to double, triple, or quadruple, sheets. Example: two 1/8” sheets to make 1/4” sheet. ( or four 1/16” sheeets) Then use small hole...

    Stud Welder

Although I have a stud welder now, it doesn’t seem like that long ago I was using electrical box knockouts for studs. I would weld a six penny nail on knockout, then solder it to area to be pulled. Never any burn through and very easy to remove/smooth. Reusable and already tinned.

    Auxiliary Air Tank Question

I run two tanks on the service truck ( 35 cfm total 22 gallon storage) and two tanks in garage (27 cfm total 140 gallon storage) mainly to have a “ wet” and “ dry” tank combination.

    School me on pullers please

When I was growing up, if my Dad or Granddad needed a puller, they made it. Consequently, so did I the first 40-50 years of my life. Even today, if I need a puller, my mind first goes to work on how to make it before I go digging thru the 50 or so I have around here. I have an old radiator...

Air lines.. what are you using?

My home system is 30+ years old with never a problem or hint of a leak. Somebody gave me a few hundred feet of 3/4” black pipe to make some gates. I used some of it for airline. Line is all welded and bent with pipe bender. There is one union in the system. Union is the only fitting and it’s...

How to remove this bearing? Advice Needed

If you don’t have a welder for that inner race, or for anyone in a situation where you can’t get a welder on the race (think fire), just hold some dry ice on race for about 20 seconds and it will fall out. Good gloves and insulated pliers/tongs required. Same method for installation. I always...

What’s shop life like with a high cfm compressor?

I bought a tow behind 250 cfm diesel powered compressor on a whim at an auction for $4000 about 30 years ago. I figured something was wrong with it, but it turned out to be in perfect condition. For 20 years I rented it out in the fall to a guy who blew out lawn sprinklers. He retired, now it...

    Tire valve stem pipe size

HF air accessories kit use to have a female valve stem thread x female 1/4 npt thread included in them. it had to be unscrewed from another part. I made a half a dozen blow thru attachments to pop up truck tires from them. Pop tire, leave air hose on for 100 lbs or so, un chuck air hose and...

Setting up a welding space, any ideas?

I bought one of those HF black 5 drawer carts they have on sale for $99 every now and then about 8 years ago. Actually bought 3 of them and made welding cart/tables for my Grandson and SIL also. Very well made. Put a 3/16 steel top on them, hanging over side 2 inches to accommodate clamps...

    Fighting with dually valve stems

60 years in the trucking business. Bend tester to fit. Might have to have two testers. Never use extensions or external mounted tpms. My opinion.
