What do I need to know for adding Pole building to stick building?

I was in the process of planning a new shop which consisted of tearing down my old one and starting from scratch. The more I thought of this plan I couldn't bring myself to tear down the old space as it is still in good condition. So my plans now are to add at least a 30x40x12 space onto the...

    Welding flash in public places?

Yeah I really don't believe the arc flash could be a hazard at that distance but definitely could be a nuisance/distraction to drivers.....

    Welding flash in public places?

Yeah screens are almost a must in my opinion for close quarter instances. Like Stephenw said it's not necessarily common sense but as long as you have some sort of sheild between the arc flash the traffic you should be alright. Also they keep down on breezes and such so welding won't be as...

    30x48 pole barn for workshop

I really like the vinyl siding. I have been kicking around the idea of doing it also to match my house but had not seen vinyl on a pole barn until now and didn't know how well it would finish out. But I have to say it does look really nice especially with the windows. Any updates as of recently?

SCH 40 PVC for Shop Air

I have personally seen it explode also. We had a shop where I used to work that was not heated and during one of the coldest days of winter someone shut the roll up door harder than usual and the PVC piping on that wall exploded. Seems to get really brittle at cold temperatures. I personally...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Bailey's Barn Build

Looking really nice! I've been looking really long and hard at some of the barn kits also. Just don't know if I can justify the cost to the wife over the price of just a regular pole barn....

Help with flash rust on table saw

I've used just plain Turtle wax on mine for years and have never had problems with the wax transferring to the wood. The wax is cheap and I only coat mine about twice a year. Also it makes the wood slide so much easier on the table. I use it on my restored drill press, table saw, etc. Helps...

Questions on vintage Cman grinder and drill press

I guess it just depends on how they are measured? When I was looking at buying a new Clausing drill press for the shop back several years ago that's how the sales rep explained it to me. They call it capacity to "drill to center of circle." Guess that could be center of a 20" radius circle?

Questions on vintage Cman grinder and drill press

I have a drill press that's is very similar to yours that I recently restored. I polished up the pole and other surfaces by varying sandpaper grits and the protecting everything with a coat of automotive wax. Seems to be holding up very well. I also changed out the electrical cord with a...

This may sound weird but what do you do?

Posted here back in 09 but things have changed. I just finished up my training to be a reactor operator at a nuclear power plant. Pay is good and I love the job......can't ask for much more!

Show Us Your Drill Presses :Mr.T:

Here's my new to me Craftsman (103.23640). Got it off of CL for 50 bucks. The DP is in exceptional shape besides a little surface rust. I completely disassembled it tonight to check everything out. Needs a good cleaning but can't decide if I want to restore the DP or just leave it as is.....

Can anyone ID this old Delta Drill Press?

Well I went and checked out the press and the bearings are shot and it has been welded on (very poorly may I add). The speed reduction was a joke also. Definitely going to be looking elsewhere. Hopefully something will come along eventually. I told the guy I would give him $50 for it and he...

Can anyone ID this old Delta Drill Press?

Yeah I have been watching craigslist for over 3 months now and nothing has shown up in my area. I figured $100 was a little much but it's been my only choice so far. I'll keep looking because this one wasn't exactly what I wanted to begin with. I was hoping to find something as close to...

Can anyone ID this old Delta Drill Press?

A friend of mine knows a guy that is trying to sell this drill press. He sent me these pictures a couple of days ago and I've had no luck ID'ing this thing. Looks like it is missing the belt guard and I've never seen a Delta with the motor mounted down low like this (homemade engineering?)...

A forum dedicated to tool restorations?

I lurk around here a lot for ideas but haven't posted a lot. I think a forum dedicated to tool restorations would be pretty nice. Those threads are really nice to keep up with but hard to find and there seems to be more and more of them showing up. I guess it is a niche but I know a lot of...

    Sub-panel, wire gauge, UFER ground

I have been pondering on the same question as to what wire to use. One electrician said it would be okay to use the #2 Aluminum service entry cable from my main panel, through the house, and underground but I can't find anything that says yay or nay and it just doesn't seem right to me......

This may sound weird but what do you do?

Just spent 6 years and lots of money in school obtaining two degrees (physics and math) along with certification in CAD but am still working as a parts tech, service manager, and salesman in a local lawn and garden shop. The people are good and the pay is enough to make it on just hoping...
