    Workmate

I've got an older Workmate (70s or 80s) that I use fairly frequently as a portable outdoor workbench and as a temporary stand for benchtop power tools (grinder, chop saw, drill press). It works great.

    Backup wrench

^ What he said. I doubt you'd need the wrenches mentioned earlier to replace the front shocks on a Dakota.

What is you favorite finish for a wood bench top

I guess I'm old school -- I used spar varnish on mine.

    Side cutter durability

I use my Snap-on 87CF all the time to cut steel (though not piano wire or hardened steel). I really like these cutters.

    Vintage 1/4 craftsman ratchet

I think your ratchet is pre =V= (early 1950s?). I have one exactly like it, and love its extremely smooth action and low drag.

How often do you use the OPEN end of a wrench??

Until the mid 1970s DOE's were the only wrenches I owned; today I rarely use an open end. The last time I recall was on a GM fuel filter -- a 20mm no less (you don't need one of those every day).

    Side cutter durability

I think any decent pair will last cutting copper wire, but whenever I need to cut steel I reach for my Snap-on. Knipex are said to be good, but I've never tried them.

Wow. That Parker makes me drool.

What is your go to personal bench vise?

A 4" Japanese Craftsman that I bought in the 80s. It's the best I have, but so far I haven't needed better.

Wow, I really like that jig! I'm going to have to make one.

GS in Hexagon Logo Adjustable Wrenches

I don't think it's JPD either. The jaws look wrong.

    Blue Handled Craftsman Pliers

I have an old pair of groove-joint pliers with dark blue handles--can no longer read the brand name, but I suspect they're craftsman. Inside one of the jaws there's a small "67" cast; this could just be a foundry mark but I've wondered if it was the year.

Complete List of Regular Craftsman Screwdrivers??

I didn't even know this one existed until I read about it here. Found one yesterday in a pawn shop.

Complete List of Regular Craftsman Screwdrivers??

None labelled JIS (as far as I know), but Craftsman did recently have a Phillips head "Ball Grip Screwdriver," made in Japan by Vessel, which some here said was JIS. I bought a couple on clearance but have yet to use them.

Lug, what did you use to clean those climbers?

things i have learned buying tools online.

Sigh. I like to look at them, to feel them, to fondle them. I might not "need" wrenches by SnapOn, Proto, S-K, and Craftsman, but I love them all.

Cleaning up an old Scroll Saw

I'd check the wiring (motor and lamp) -- you sure don't want any shocks. Also try to turn the top pulley by hand -- if it doesn't turn and make the blade oscillate up and down, you've got to free that up before running it. With those things taken care of, a new belt and blade should do it...

    Best stubby 8 oz hammer

Ditto, unless you're not satisfied with the HF for some reason. Since you're not likely to be swinging a stubby very hard, I would think the HF would serve well enough.

Sears.com hot deals and clearance thread

I have no experience with these particular sockets, but do note that they are at the low end of the range of sizes for 1" drive.
