What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I live by the beach, on sand. Recently bought a 20' container for storage, sat it on some old concrete foundation blocks (3) and a big rock, all just lain on the grass. Now about 6 weeks later it has all settled so one corner is a bit down. This afternoon put a pair of steel wedges (old log...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Have just mounted a 4" engineer's vyce to the bench in my SIL's shed. I'm visiting daughter and SIL and 3 & 6 yr GD's, and also (volunteer)working at Australian 4 Day Enduro. First 3 days very tough terrain and tight times.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Worked on my little 2 AA battery torch (flashlight) that recently stopped working. I couldn't figure out why the aluminium body wasn't passing current, looked really hard and discovered there is a threaded joint where the steel pocket clip lives. Was able to get the joint apart with the body...

    Settled Foundation and Slab

Or a water level (garden hose with a piece of clear at each end) to make the measurements if you don't have a rotating laser.

    Leveling a 9x12 wood shed

Amazing how much you can lift with a very basic jack, the mangiest looking car jack will get it up a couple of inches, a bit of timber blocking will hold it there while you move another corner... and so on. Actually finding and having enough timber packing will turn out to be the hardest part of...

    Oscillating tool/saw??

Yes, for plaster casts we always had DeSouter from England, they were so exotic and magical in that they cut plaster but not skin....... then about 20 years ago!!! started seeing the modern equivalents. Now I have Einhall (German brand from China) and various $20 Chinese copies, corded and...

What did you do "TO" your garage today?

Discovered that the 3 wheel bandsaw I borrowed had a blade, but no drive belt. Found that none of the suppliers nearby have a belt this small, so wondered about making a belt. Tried heat welding some 6mm vinyl (hospital) oxygen tube....wouldn't weld. Tried some 3mm whipper snipper line, worked...

    Lil help?

I'd use steel rather than aluminium. I used an old steering rack hung on the side on my father's old dp, still going 20 yrs later.

    Throttle / Clutch Cable Repair

I've used similar, I'd suggest that after putting the cable into the mould that you splay the wires a bit so you have a mechanical hold as well as a solder hold.

Any suggestions for removing this broken screw?

Ah, now I went back and looked at the pictures!! Just today I bought a set of screw removal tools at Aldi (world's best supermarket) a tapered LH thread with flutes cut in. Drill a pilot hole with your normal RH drill bit, insert the removal tool and drive with your drill in reverse. (Having...

Any suggestions for removing this broken screw?

Sounds to me that you are fairly new at this game, I suggest trying the simplest ways first. IF the bolt is accessible from the back side, cut a slot with a hacksaw and screw out with a screwdriver. IF, as I imagine, the bolt is in a blind hole, try driving it out with a hammer and centre punch...

Aldi Sockets Sets on sale Australia

They had some general purpose screwdriver sets a couple of years ago which ended up about $3 on clearance; good kitchen drawer quality, I must have bought about 10 sets! gave a set to all the pretty young ones at work who were setting up house, I got so many brownie points! The Allen key sets...

    Crack in sledge hammer head

And my blood temperature rose a couple of degrees when I read that suggestion of "a couple of wood screws" That's the worst redneck hillbilly fix I've heard; I would have cut some fine hardwood wedges, slathered them in epoxy and driven them into the voids, let the epoxy set and then trimmed...

    Threaded inserts spinning in plastic

Perhaps a hole saw around the outside of the insert...but , no, you can't get a drill with hole saw in there!! Holesaw turned by hand? Bolt held in rotation by wrench, then insert driven off with cold chisel on the rim( if you can get to the rim )

Source for wrench roll with velcro closure?

I sewed mine myself, used some cotton curtain fabric. It's printed on one side, plain on the other. Yes, it gets a bit dirty, but it's soft enough to wipe my hands on; I left a bit of a flap on one end for just that purpose!

Wilton 450 swivel base centering pin?

I WOULD NOT SUGGEST that you run your mower over that patch of lawn (or grass) wearing short trousers, bare feet and relying on Obama or Donald Care......unless you Really want to find the the old one!

    Bottle jack piston seal repair

I think they turned the flat part down to fit the groove; but now that you've made a rubber one you'll probably find that it lasts forever. And great that you've made it with the material at hand.....that was probably what the original makers did!
