    Fireplace 'tools'

I have an ash vac, everything is steel so it can't melt. Real nice piece. I now have a gas fireplace though... I'm sure you can go to a fireplace store and buy the tools for a couple hundred $. I bought a nice set at menards for $50 or so and its all I'd ever need.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Painted my air compressor shelf, mounted it on the wall, mounted the hose reel, and set the compressor up there. Still need to get a new regulator, lead in hose, and bolt the compressor down. But cleared up my bench!

    My first welds...critiques welcome

Go back to the local fab shop and explain what you're doing and ask if you can purchase some drops or scraps to practice with, it'll be A LOT cheaper than buying stuff at Home Depot. You may get lucky and they'll give it to you free... But your money will go a lot further there than Home Depot...

    My first welds...critiques welcome

Good welds to start, some look a bit cold, others fast, some slow. Keep working on it, you'll get it figured out. I've been welding since I was 6. I'll say this, figure out how to set the machine, change settings (heat, feed speed) both ways so you know what is wrong and what/how much...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Built a shelf to mount my compressor and hose reel on the wall to save space. Needs painted and mounted yet. It's getting lagged into studs.

4 Post Lift Ramps--anyone try trailer ramps?

They'll work, they just won't lift up when the lift does like the standard ramps. We need longer ramps with certain cars on our lift. We just lay a 2x10 about 10 ft long on top of the ramp. A bit tricky keeping it from moving sometimes, but it all works out. I'd lay boards underneath yours...

    Question about tractor hood

Only if you beat the day lights out of them... Between dad and myself we've had about 10 different Deere lawn/utility tractors with the plastic hoods. The only one that ever cracked is one we had a tie down come loose in the trailer and it hit the trailer wall. You can crack them opening the...

post your tools left in the engine bay story

Dad took his 93 corvette in for its first oil change after buying it new. Took it the Chevy dealership. Guy left a tool on top of the intake, shut the hood, cracked/spidered the paint on the whole hood. Was metallic maroon 40th anniversary edition, they put a new hood on and repainted...

    6' vs 8' workbench?

My point is, go as big as you can fit, you'll always have stuff end up on there that you didn't plan on.

    6' vs 8' workbench?

Here is my currently cluttered 8ft bench. 36" deep. Wired/switched light and a plug so I don't have to dig behind to plug a tool in. Compressor is a repair job, not my location for it. Tiller is a freebie I'm repairing. Never intended to put my box on there but nowhere else to put it right now.

    6' vs 8' workbench?

8 foot, you'll be cussing yourself every time you use a 6 ft and it's just not big enough. Also if you're looking for a wood top I've heard people use old bowling lane for a top. I'm sure you can peruse CL and find some. Should be cheaper than the $160

    fix a floor loose tile/s

I have some fix a floor I'm going to use on a tile in my bathroom. I keep waiting for another tile to be loose but it's been months and nothing. Mine is a 6" x 24" tile, about 3/4 of it is solid, one end is loose and popping out grout. I plan to re-grout, dry, drill holes, fix a floor, then...

Let's See Your Snow Moving Equipment...

Toro 621zr is what I have now. We get 1-2 snows of 12"+ a year, and a bunch of 6" or less. If it's a deep one I just make sure I get out there once it's 6" deep and get it cleared. It'll eat through 12" or more, just takes longer. Had a 2 stage for a while but it was a b**ch to drag around...

    building a bridge.

I wouldn't use tubing, traps moisture, it'll rust from the inside out. Use a 4 inch channel for the bottom. I believe 2" tubing is too light for the bottom, you'll have a lot of bounce in it regardless of wall thickness. As mentioned above your steel supplier should be able to roll that. If...
