    Delta 22-540 vs 22-580 planers.

I have an older Delta Planer that still works very well. But...... the knives became obsolete. I was lucky to grab one set for eventual replacement and I count myself lucky. Delta hasn’t always been good about service after the sale. It’s tough to predict but the future needs are something to...

    Upgrading Old Car Electrical System

All great advice! I use relays wherever possible. They are a godsend for max power with minimal requirements for switching.

Who has an off brand multi process welder plasma cutter?

The actual machine, in singularity, is called a ‘power source.’ With this power source you can pull numerous processes off of it. It can stick, MiG, tig. etc. Its because they all need electricity albeit routed different ways. Now comes plasma. It needs the same thing. But, beware of the combo...

    Hobart 140 sputtering

Experienced the same issue. I was thinking bad ground connection and that did help a bit. The steel I was welding was really low grade with some zinc coating left imbedded. That was the culprit on that job. I’m looking to see if that’s the welder issue in the future though.

A vertical wood bandsaw can be used for metal......but, it needs to be slowed down with pulley ratios and have a compatible blade.

Looking for ideas for swing away racks in a spray booth

Check out the hinges for steel gates at the steel shops. They are usually 3/4 inch solid round stock and weldable. You might need only one per long arm of square tube that would swing out and back.

Advice on moving a Bridgeport milling machine

I used a big hole saw (like 2 inch) to cut into a scrap 2x4 short piece (about a foot) then nailed it to three more to stack them together. The wood was about 6 inches tall. The hole cut one fit the quill and the stack was the cushion between the top of the bed where I cranked up the Z-axis...

If there is a commercial level sharpening service where you are, they can typically reweld that snapped blade. Most of them sell blades from bulk so the have a blade welder on site.

Pawn shop score - Hitachi DH40MR

Nice score. Often overlooked are the front of the store pawn items. While they have value, the real value to the store is what’s behind the counter; the loans that keep giving them money. They are usually very happy to toss out deals on the front end stuff.

I'm So Darned Old - Here's What I Learned in College

School systems hierarchies miss the point of shop classes in certain measure. They see machines and tools and dead-end vocations but if the students are taught well, they learn a lifetime of intangibles: problem solving, patience, dexterity, critical thinking, innovation, following direction and...

    Gloves Are Tools, Right?

Yep, gloves are tools. Tools are anything that helps make your job easier. Anything that you’ve touched and leached through your pores was filtered through your liver.

Need ideas to cheaply heat a small green house.

I see lots of DIY plans for waste oil heater builds. I don’t have a need for one presently but if I had a place that needed it, it seems like an economical and efficient way to do things. Might not take a very large one either for the space you describe.

    Silver soldering brass?

Beautiful work. My thought would be to fillet silver solder the underside. Super clean, stainless wire brush scratch and plenty of flux. You’ll need oxy-acetylene soft flame but it should flow very well along the perpendicular angle of base and bushing. That would make it forever strong. You...
