I have several dozen old files to sort through, I need to quickly determine which are still good and which are so worn they have to go. Any tips on how to do this quickly? Would you just look at them? File something and see how they cut? If so, what would you use to test? Frankly I am confused...

I noticed at my local Sears that 3/8 deep sockets were only etched, not stamped around the base. Whereas the regular size 3/8 sockets were both etched and stamped with size. Is my store just clearing out old stock on etch-only deeps? Or does C-man not etch & stamp the deeps (yet)?
