    Estate sale find: Convertible screwdriver/T-handle

Found this folding handle driver at an estate sale. Says Danielson Implement Co. out of Villisca, Iowa. Seen drivers like this before but not this age and brand. Figure maybe it was a promotional item. Any clues?

    Surplus store find: Sandvik extension

Went by an electronics surplus store today. They've been diversifying and have added tools and all sorts of non-electronic stuff. Found this 14" 1/4" drive extension today. Couldn't make out the name, but it looked like "Sandvik Germany" Chrome was superb, fitment was nice, rolled evenly on the...

Now there's a shortage of air conditioning units and parts

This is a rant, so, if you don't want to read an old farts opinions - stop reading now. I heard on the news last night that there's a "shortage" of A/C units as well as repair parts going on. WTH? I was just in the warehouse last week, and didn't notice any light or empty shelves. The part I...

    Tool Box ID

I'm hoping with the wide knowledge base here at the Journal somebody will have the info I'm looking for. My dad went to a trade school in NYC. Say mid-late 50's. He was in the sheet metal program, and from what I remember him telling me he made his tool box. It carried all his hand tools of the...

    Dill Big Bore valve tools

Found a partial set of schrader valve tools by a company called Dill. Looked them up on-line - they are still in business. Some of the tools I recognize, others are kinda strange. I guess they are called "Big Bore" tools for bigger tires than standard cars. Oh well, I can always repurpose the...

I guess I should think about becoming a Makita dealer!

LOL Finally got a gifted angle drill up and running that a forum member gifted me (thanks Bob). Took almost a month to get in a new trigger switch! Anyway, I now have a fairly good lot of Makita 9.6 volt tools. Maybe I should be come a dealer? :lol_hitti My main cased set, three flashlights...

    A pair o ratchets!

An S-K Roto-head in 3/8", and an old Walden Worchester 1/2"er. Both need some serious cleaning and polishing, but both ratchet in both directions. And at about a $1 each I'm not complaining! The Waldon head looks alot like the Herbrand 1/2" rat I have.

    One of my brothers creations

He likes taking junk metal and combining it in different and interesting ways. He took and old sewing machine, and made a race car out of it! Heavy as all get out, surprising detail, wild use of various junk pieces to construct the individual parts. Even got the pedals and shift lever in there...

    Nice GearWrench driver set

Big shout out to ssdave. He had a GearWrench driver set of sale, a standard driver handle and a bunch of driver extensions. It was missing the bit assortment - no problem, as I have tons of bits. Very clean, super nice, unused. But I had what I thought was a matching this GearWrench stubby...

Found a S-O ratchet at Goodwill!

Frozen tight - and had two grind marks on it - but for 99 cents I figured it was worth grabbing. Shoot - took much more than a dollars worth of solvent to clean. I think I got taken!:lol_hitti Any guess on the age from the model number?

    APEX allen wrench "Wing" handles

Thanks to Rickster I've got 7 of the old style APEX wing handles (2 are marked BRISTOL). Three I set up as SAE for blower wheel set screws. Now I want to assemble a set of metrics for bicycle work. I really like the grip, and it's nice that broken shafts can easily be swapped out into the...

    Pawnie finds: 4-16-20

Just had to get out of the house today, so took a trip across town to one of the few remaining pawn shops who sell bin tools. Didn't know if I find anything new with the shutdown keeping people away, but found lots of new stock. I guess people are hocking stuff to get cash. Here's the handful...

Pawn shop score: Nice pile ole goodies!

I only get to this out-of-town pawn shop two or three times a year. Always make time to spend a couple hours there. This trip I got a nice pile of goodies. A/C valve tool, various drivers and sockets, Milton tire wear gauge, and a foursome of cordless drill belt hooks. (Never know when the one...

    Some of my dad's creations.

My dad was a tin knocker, but he really loved copper work. He died in 2002, and I just got the opportunity to obtain some of the pieces he handcrafted. Figured I'd share some pics so you guys could see his craftsmanship. A tri-pod table he made to hold his beer and a TV remote. Copper tube and...

OK Hazet fans - what's this tool?

Picked it up along with some other tools as I thought it was a nut driver. It wasn't till I got home that I realized the end is not a hex but round. I looked on Hazet USA website but it's not listed. Non-magnetic, Hazet # 4520-2

    Snap-On estate find

The wife and I visited an estate sale today that was a crafters/hoaders paradise, and I spied these needlenose. They say Vacuum Grip S-O, so I snagged them. Broke my wallet at 50 cents. :lol_hitti I thought the name Vacuum Grip belonged to someone else?

    Snap-On roadside find

Saw a gleaming wrench near a curb, and was able to pull over and retrieve it. A Snappy combo wrench flank drive plus in 12mm. Cleaned it with solvent. A little worse for wear but perfect for my needs. Best of all was the price - FREE!

    Pair of S-K rats

Hit up an old favorite pawn shop that's closing so the owner can retire. They've been pulling some nice stuff out of storage! A 4.5 out of 5 3/8" #45170 roundhead, and a pretty good TUFF 1 in 1/4" long style. I don't usually pass on any S-K ratchets that I come across, but these were...

    Pawn shop finds

Had some great "therapy" digging thru tool bins at a semi-local pawn shop that still carries hand tools. Amazing how two hours of searching rusty tools can be great for one's attitude! Some interesting finds include a pair of Snappy tools, an Ampco non-magnetic wrench, an Xcelite slip joint...

OK, I may have to change my name to Makita Man!

ANOTHER Makita 9.6v tool followed me home - a long style pivoting head flashlight. It works, had the battery, and a spare bulb! Only the lens retaining ring was damaged. With my military and senior citizen discounts it cost me a total of $3.46. Another blue body to join the other Makita 9.6ers I...
