    WTB: Amprobe clamp meter RS-3

Looking to get one of those old Amprobe analog clamp meters. The ones that look like a black beetle. I'd like a spare meter around, and I'm not wanting to buy any Asian digital junk. I've been looking on ebay and CL, and haven't really found the right one. Has to have all the leads, but a...

    Evaporative Cooler tricks

For those of you who have evaporative coolers, I offer the following tips that I've discovered over the years to deal with some of the problems associated with them. For dealing with hard water/calcium scale: Use sodium hexametaphoshate. A white powder available at chemical supply houses...

    Recent hauls

Here's most of the tools I've acquired over the past two weeks. Not much in quantity, but several interesting items. Several older wrenches. A C-man DOE, S-O ignition wrench, Indestro super DBE and a no-name DBE. Cornwell DOE looks old, too. A pair of K-D pliers. Snap ring and wire clamp...

    Some Bonney goodness!

After selling a partial metric set to a buddy - and then 2 weeks later needing one of them - I set out on a search for a set of Bonnet angle wrenches in metric. Found a set missing two sizes at Idaho Equipment. The missing 12mm I picked up locally, and the 19mm I got off of ebay (Thanks...

WTB: Bonney double box end wrench

Looking for a Bonney double box end wrench. Metric, 13mm x 15mm, 12 pt. Part # MDB-1315 Trying to complete a box end set. Used is fine as long as it's not abused.

Did somebody ask about a 3/8" in a 1/4" body?

There's been a fairly lengthy thread on said ratchets, so I thought I'd make one out of some odds and ends I had. Just to see how it fit in the hand and how useful it might be. Here it is between the shortest 3/8" rat I have (a FACOM) and a NB 1/4": Here's a close-up with the NB 1/4": It fits...

Ratchet ID: What do I have here?

Picked up this odd 3/8" today. Was a QR with the knurl disc on the back of the head (like I like). Has "Master Pro" and "USA" on it: Wasn't ratcheting right, so took it apart to clean and lube. I discovered it is a sliding pawl design, like the FACOMs and TUFF 1's: This is unusual to...

Craftsman V^ pawl-less ratcheting wrenches: Any good?

Pretty slim pickins last week, though I did find this set of 3 Craftsman ratcheting box wrenches. Had to soak each end for a day in acetone/ATF, but that freed them right up. Purchased individually, the catalog prices these 3 wrenches at around $51. I paid $6. But are they any good?

Torque multiplier for 1/4" drill: any good?

Picked up what I think is a torque multiplier attachment for a 1/4" drive drill. The hex output shaft turns once for every 7 turns of the input shaft. Made out of plastic, seems fairly smooth, but no brand or COO on it. Is it worth keeping and using as is, or should I cut it apart as a learning...

    Hex die score: Any good?

Totally by accident, I found this set of 3 hex dies at a local thrift store. I could read US and the sizes (1/2-13, 5/8-11, 3/4-10), so I figured they were worth the $5 asking price. After cleaning, I found this brand name: I'm not familiar with it. Is it a good brand?

F/S: Old-style Dremel tools and acc's in metal case

I picked up this dremel tool a few weeks ago in a tool lot. I've used it a bit, so I know it works. But it's one speed, and I'm used to variable speed. A freind says I can rig up a sewing machine pedal to vary the speed, but I don't want to mess with it. You get all you see here - the metal case...

    What's the lowdown on FACOM?

I bought a small tool lot today, and this ratchet was in it. It was frozen up, but was able to disassemble, degunk, and lube it. Now it seems to work fine. All I know about FACOM is that they are a French company who once owned S-K. But that's it. Are their tools any good? Is this ratchet a...

    WTB: Kromedge 1/4x20 NC die

Picked up this beautiful Kromedge die set last week, but it's missing the 1/4" NC die. I have one I can take from another set, but that leaves that set short. And I don't want to put a Chinese-made die in here. So, if anyone has a # 9-5227 USA hex die they don't need, please PM me.

Estate sale haul was good today!

Items found included: half dozen evap cooler fuses, a dozen or so USA taps, a MAC feeler gauge, a 10" Utica adjustable, level bulbs, a Kromedge die set (USA - missing two pieces), a military folding-shovel cover, a small Japanese anvil, a micrometer head, and an OLD Moto-Tool by Dremel in metal...

    Ratchet mechanisms: How they work

There seems to be many people who are interested in the internal mechanisms of different ratchets and how they work. I thought I'd post some pics of ratchets that have crossed my desk in an effort to help people see what goes on inside the wrench. Please - if you have pics of a ratchet not...

    Ratchet blow-out!

Here are some ratchets I have for sale. Some are lookers, some are workers - but all of the tools have been disassembled, cleaned, and lubed. And all "issues" are posted. The smaller rats can be sent in a bubble wrap mailer, but the standard-handled ones approach the $5 mark (so they will go in...

    How useful are screw starters?

I've picked up 4 screw starters recently - one phillips and 3 standard. Craftsman, GENERAL, Ullman Devices corp, and a no-name. I've never used screw starters in the past (because I've never had them), but got them as part of some tool lots, and figured maybe I could find a use for them. How...

What do you get when you cross EASYDRIVER with Snap-On: An EASYSnap!

As you'all know, I acquired a badly mutilated S-O ratcheting screwdriver recently: Well, I had a well-used EASYDRIVER ball driver, and the guts were pretty gone. What to do? I performed some hybrid therapy, and produced an EASYSnap: The project allowed me to examine both ratcheting...

    Is this Snap-On driver saveable?

I grabbed this S-O ratcheting screwdriver in a tool lot. Some ***** put a pair of pliers on it in use and cracked the handle. I figured I would cut the handle off with a dremel and reuse the guts in a project. But then I thought: with all you S-O fans out there, maybe one of you has a good...

A thank you for the forum!

With it being the holidays and all, I've been thinking about things I'm grateful for. And GJ came up. There are very few places where you can go to learn new things, pass on what you know, and have a great time doing it. And this site is one of them! I just wanted to thank the members and staff...
