Puget Dude’s creations and fabrications (Random project thread.)

I think that it was really generous of those contractors to provide you with some fun projects to do. ;) You would just be bored if you didn't have the opportunity to fix all their screw ups. :shocking:

Interesting modifications to arbor press (This Old Tony video)

I removed the original handle, bored the shaft, then pressed and welded a 1/2" drive socket in. This achieved the same basic result as rsanter's mod. Either way it is far better than grinding a tooth off the ram. I would do Tony's tooth removal if I couldn't weld or machine.

Vintage optics--'70s and earlier. Microscopes, Telescopes, Binos, etc--If it has lenses and is fifty years old or older, post it!

No argument here, although I preferred the MX. It was fully manual only when I was more serious about photography.

    MP&C Shop Projects

The shop made stainless trim lock is a great solution. I find that using a t-handle tap handle for cleaning up a bunch of holes is a pain. I prefer to use a speed handle and a Lisle tap socket. Give it a shot some time.

    Sandpaper Adhesive ?

I use Carborundum "Glop" Type 8 NF, but I'm not sure if it is still available. In it's place, I suggest 3M 08051 Feathering Disc. Adhesive.

Thanks, dwwjr56. I only have about half of them on display. I need to make another display rack or two.

Show your MAC Chest and Rollaway Combinations (MB510 and MB520)

I'm a huge fan of Mac boxes from that era. Here is a pic of some of mine. Pay no attention to the Crapsman top box. It is slated to be replaced with a 34" wide Mac box. Your boxes are a bit older than the boxes in my pic. One can tell by the logos on the drawer handles. My drawer handles...

Temporary Mount For Stationary Air Compresor.

A pallet will work fine. My compressor has been attached to the original shipping pallet for over 50 years. It's a Grainger branded unit with a 60 gallon vertical tank and a Champion pump.

Tools you thought you'd love and just don't

That's interesting. I much prefer Starrett depth mics. That damned thumb screw lock is a deal killer. I hate it so much that I got rid of my Mitutoyo depth mics.

    Garage Door Insulation

I suggest that you use the thickest polyisocyanurate insulation that will fit. If that requires you to buy stiffer springs for the door, it's a small price to pay for having good insulation.

Seeking info on Tool Caddy brand rolling tool chest

You're welcome ogreg. The Tool Caddy is a unique box. One would need to either use tool racks that firmly secure the tools or shadow everything in the box to avoid everything sliding to the back of the drawers anytime it's moved. A friend of mine has one that he doesn't use. I'm hoping that...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Yeah, I tend to forget that there are breweries that don't use chemicals from Five Star. I'm a bit biased toward their products. They are local to me, plus the rep has been very generous with sharing samples with me.

Crappy OEM electrical cords. Who hates them and what did you do?

The Wizard has spoken. This is what I do when I need a good cord on a tool.

Gripnail - Freedom Air Swivel is there any place to order one?

Yes, Stedlin products are still available on Amazon. However, available quantities are dwindling and appear not being replenished. Also, Stedlin's website has been down for weeks. I haven't attempted to contact Stedlin but it does seem that their status is questionable.
