    Steam boiler DIY Anyone?

As a licensed steam fitter of 50 years, I wouldn't recommend you do a steam boiler, unless you understand safety controls, how to pipe a Hartford loop, etc. Do you have a one pipe system or two pipe? To convert to a hydronic (water) boiler, on a one pipe system, you would have to use the...

Is it worth installing modine heater PA105AB

Of course it's worth installing! You just saved $300-500 bucks. Good find. Parts are no problem. May not be as high efficiency as a new unit, but the price is right. Mo dine is a good brand and our shop works on everything, moline and Rheem have a lot of 20+ year old units running fine.

    Questions on floor drains

I hate referencing code, but if it gets inspected, they will require a sand and oil interceptor before discharge. They don't want either one in their pipes! Epa is harsh on daylighting the drain and dumping into or on the ground, don't even try that. Honestly most of us got our rebar...

Cracks in a fairly new slab

Stress cracks are normal in concrete. Concrete like all materials expands and contracts. Or course that all depends on the compaction of the soil before it was poured. In the past I have called a structural engineer out to inspect. Each time they had no issue with hairline cracks. Seems it's...

Calking a wall penetration in a steel building.

Install a sheetmetal duct through the wall of my steel building. Cut the hole and flashed per mfg details. Installed the duct. Would like ti apply a small bead of calk wher the metal building skin butts up to the flashing. Butyl, gutter seal, silicone? What have others done that will hold up...

    Copper air line wall flange?

Plumbing supplier should have "stand off clamps" that clamps to the copper and attach via an all thread rod and length you want.

    Evap cooler final filter

i added an evap cooler in my shop. Works great (in Colorado). The biggest problem in my area is the hard water. It tends to leave a fine white powder on the fan wheel and duct when the water evaporates, so if it hasn't been on in a while, it blows out fine dust for a little while. Not a big...

    Paint booth concrete floor

I'll take a look at the products you mentioned. One question, how slippery does the sealer make it (later) when wet? I had the concrete smooth finished as not to have a rough finish to give overspay something to grab on to. Thanks

Advice on stripped #8-32 UNC threads in a diecast alloy housing

I had pretty good luck with "jb weld" on stripped out screws, but red rill and tap one size larger would be best.

    Paint booth concrete floor

any suggestions on a floor pair/coating to use on a concrete paint booth floor? Or, is it better to just leave the concrete unfinished?

    circuit breaker keeps tripping out

Is the breaker a gfi or arc fault? Arc fault breakers detect the slightest arc condition, anything from an arc inside a switch when you turn it off or on, any brush type motor device plugged in, a hair dryer, anything that has a natural arc. Even a light bulb burning out can trip these. Arc...

    Quonset building lighting options

Duh! Sometimes you "can't see the forest through the trees", I can drop hanger rods anywhere I want on 2' centers one direction and about 6" centers the opposite direction off the panel bolts. Just screw on a 5/16 rod coupling and drop a rod. Pretty much unlimited attachment points to run...

    Quonset building lighting options

i have a 24x30 steel quonset building. Trying to find a way to light it. Limited on attachment points and don't want to drill holes and create leak points. The building is basically 180 degree segments 2' wide. Each segment is made of three pieces, therefore it is bolted in these places (future...

Fluorescent strip lights recessed in ceiling

With my limited garage ceiling height, I'm thinking of recessing standard t-8 two bulb 4' strip lights into the ceiling between the trusses. Probably about 4" so the bottom of the bulbs and shield are level with finished ceiling. I looked at troffers and they are to wide to fit the 22 1/2" space...

    Panel Grounding Question

Go buy a 6' ground rod, pound it in and let the dish people ground to it. Add a lug to the panel in the house and run a ground wire to the new ground rod if you want a secondary ground source for your home. Most codes call for a dual ground source, water pipe and ground rod.

    rotating in wall tv box

Want to build a rotating tv compartment in my rv wall. Something I can mount a small flatscreen on one side, a picture on the other side and be able to rotate as to watch tv in the living area or the bedroom, by rotating the unit. The hole in the wall and box are self explanatory, but the...

    What TIG welder to buy?!?!

Over the 50 years I worked as a pipefitter, I used about everything made. For years I used and owned only Lincoln. I currently have and use mostly Miller. I have a Lincoln mig and a Miller tig. Miller is easier to set up and more user friendly. The are both pretty much top of the line on...

Blasting cabinet - about to pull the trigger..

I used the harbor freight box ( a box is a box...) Caulked all the interior seams to prevent leakage (door had a good seal and latch) and upgraded the gun with the TP Tools. Works great!! Buy the HF box when they have their 20% off coupon. The calking takes all of 5 minutes...
