The Fake Milwaukee M18 Battery Thread...

I unknowingly bought a set of knockoff batteries from Amazon several years ago. I didn't realize my mistake until I opened the package. The batteries wouldn't even take a charge and returned them before even using. After that, I only buy batteries in stores. It costs more but I don't have to...

The skinny on compressors in 2024

I didn't know the Dewalt compressors were that bad. I've had one for maybe 6 or 7 years and the only thing I have done is change the oil and replace a broken flapper valve. I still have the price sticker on mine and at that time it was just under $500. Now they're around $1000. After reading...

    Whats your favorite vintage rachet?

I have a few I can think of. I use my SK Wayne 45170, SK 3870, and Williams Superratchet S52 often. I like how the Williams is slightly longer than a regular length 1/2" ratchet but still short enough to use after breaking free a bolt. The New Britain ratchets are great to use too. I have a...

How often do you use 1/2" sockets/ratchets?

I would guess 50% 3/8, 40% 1/2, and 5% each for 1/4 and 3/4 drive. I farm, do farm repairs and overhaul diesel engines.

    Decent 500+ ft/lb torque wrench

I provided some pictures. Since the 3/4" torque is 3 pieces, you can rotate the center piece to tighten right handed or left handed threads. On a regular split beam, you can only tighten right hand thread bolts/nuts. In the second picture, you can see the knob and dial. Flip the switch up, turn...

    Decent 500+ ft/lb torque wrench

You don't watch the dial after you set it. It clicks just like a clicker.

    Decent 500+ ft/lb torque wrench

A split beam isn't the same as a dial.

    Decent 500+ ft/lb torque wrench

When I'm driving a loaded semi down the road, the last thing I want to do is trust the cheapest torque wrench I could find. I have a Precision Instrument split beam that's around 40" long and made a breaker bar attachment to go along with it. I spent around $350 for it pre-covid. I'm not sure...

    Arbor press suggestions

I've got a 3 ton arbor press and a 20 ton hydraulic press. I wish I had a 40 or 50 ton press. For small jobs, I love my arbor press. For broaching keyway, it can't be beat.

    Good Penetrating Fluids?

I've used about every kind of penetrating oil and it's mostly just to feel like I tried. I usually use PB Blaster, Sea Form Deep Creep or ATF/acetone if I really want to feel like I tried. If a torch isn't possible, I've had the best luck using my bolt rattler on my air hammer. It's great for...

    Another new Tekton product

An actual socket wrench is more handy to me since one end is a pass through design. I bought a 9/16" Facom wrench for one specific job and it works great. The Tekton bent extensions can't do anything my other tools already do and I have no interest.

    Recent SK warranty experience

I broke my SK breaker bar about a month ago. It's the older style with the press in pin instead of a screw. I contacted SK but they were on holiday break. By the time they responded, I had already bought a NOS rebuild kit off Ebay. SK wasn't slow to respond once they opened back up but it was...

    Shars Drill Press Chuck

I have a two boring bars for my lathe and two boring bar kits for my 5/8 and 3/4" boring heads. The bars for my lathe have been great and the ones for my mill are better than the dirt cheap ones.

    Hydraulic hose crimper

I would love to be able to make my own hoses but I can't make it pencil out. My farm equipment is several different brands across several decades so having the right fittings and hoses would eat up any cost savings in a hurry. I am fairly lucky that there's 3 places close to me that make hoses...

    Homemade Tools

I needed an easier way to measure liner protrusion and this is what I came up with. I wish I had some wider material but it this works and can measure piston height too. It probably took me about 40 minutes to make on my mill since I was just winging it but it'll do. I started off as a solid...

    Vulcan Omnipro 220 Welder

I like to look at the one star reviews when looking at something from Harbor Freight. You have to select 1 star review because HF only show 5 star reviews by default. The reoccurring theme with the 1 star reviews is that once the machine quits, you scrap it because no parts are available to fix...

What part is likely to fail on a Wilton Bullet vise?

Most common thing I see broken on Wiltons that are for sale are the jaw supports under the replaceable jaws. Usually from abusing and beating on the vise in a downward motion.

    Tools for John Deere equipment?

Everyone around here overlooks until it becomes a problem. After paying to fix it, they tend to remember better. Local dealer said he saw one that the driveshaft cut through the oil pan.

    Tools for John Deere equipment?

If you have a Moco, you'll definitely want a good 6 point 18mm impact socket to change blades and turtle shells on the cutter bar. 27mm for the front rims for 4wd, 30mm for the rear axle. 15mm and 16mm wrenches to remove the fan pulley on the engine it it's similar to the 7.6 and 8.1 engines. To...
