    Driveway grade question

we put a gentle slope in the approach. Looks like it will lower the door opening a few inches and make the transition pretty smooth. I think I like this. Then we will put a slight slope on the apron and extend the driveway with a flat area and make the slope as gentle as possible. See anything...

This is my first time to build and I want it right. I will have a classic car or two in the garage and don’t want a problem with scraping the bottoms of the cars.

    Driveway grade question

I have quite a distance available but about 30 feet in front of the building is where a bit of water drains from right to left across my property. This is only when it rains extremely heavily. My original idea was to just do a very slight dip across the concrete. I could make a gradual slope to...

Tree where my foundation needs to go -- Advice needed

That's very cool! I tried to get the local tree farm to move it or take it and they said that it was too late in the season and it probably wouldn't survive. I have plenty of trees so this won't be too sad, but I do like nice trees.

Tree where my foundation needs to go -- Advice needed

I've got a 15 inch oak tree that's about 25 feet tall and it is where a corner of the foundation for my new garage will go. I've talked to tree companies and all seem to offer the same thing...to cut it down and grind the stump. I don't want future problems with the slab. What is the right way...

    Mice are killing me....

I had a rat that I couldn't catch with spring traps because he would lick the peanut butter off without setting them off. He ate some wiring on our car so I got meaner and put out sticky traps and wired them to weights so he couldn't drag them off. It worked, he got stuck to the trap and the...

Post tension foundations - What do you think about this design?

Benjamin Miller, I agree... That would seem to be the obvious answer..... Are you an engineer? My Dad is an engineer and this sounded just like his advice. Lol. The reason I’m asking on this site is because I got an initial bid to do the whole building from two contractors. The chosen...

Post tension foundations - What do you think about this design?

Follow up: I’ve done a good bit of reading about the post tension foundations and building in our area. I think I like the idea of using one as long as it doesn’t get too expensive. Discovered our house has a post tension foundation. It has a nearly 700 sf attached garage that doesn’t have a...

Post tension foundations - What do you think about this design?

Wow! I was told about an area that had 7-9" of PVR. 19" is really extreme. Glad to hear the Post Tensioning worked for you. Really makes me wonder if 2.5" PVR really needs post tensioning or if an overbuilt rebar slab would really do the trick?

Post tension foundations - What do you think about this design?

Do you know how they build a traditional rebar slab for expansive soil conditions? More rebar? More concrete?
