    Garage Underground Safe Room

Decided to install a Underground Safe Room in my Garage. It is a 12 man unit 60"W x 8'L x 5' D. May not seem important to many but here in Oklahoma it is can be lifesaving. If you have ever experienced a 'twister' you will understand. It will fit under the Wifey's car. The State held a rebate...

Horrible garage floor needs makeover - repairing concrete?

I would not waste my time doing a repair. Have a professional remove and replace the concrete floor. The vapor barrier and relief cuts will be installed properly and you will have a great floor. It would be money well spent.

    10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag

Toolbox may be a mess, but it looks like it is used alot. That is better than one that is neatly organized and never used. My tool boxes are not foo foo organized, but I know where everything is. Kind of organized chaos. Rock On :rocker:

    eBay vise prices

Major issue with purchasing a Vise on Ebay is the shipping costs. Many times a Vise is local pickup only and that can eliminate the posibility of a transaction for many. That being said,.. if I find a nice Vise I like I may pay a little more or go the extra mile.

Why are Craftsman tools being crticized so much?

I have been very satisfied with Craftsman Hand Tools. Most of my wrenches and socket sets are Craftsman. However, I tend to stay away from Craftsman Power Tools. I do have some Craftsman Power Tools but I will not purchase them any longer. Sears has started marketing some very cheap Chinese...

    Tool box by Facom

You would be better off buying a Pelican case and using their foam to customize it to the tools you need and use. Pelicans are practically bullet proof. They are waterproof, have wheels/handle and a very good value. Come in many sizes. I have used one for 15 years and it is still in good shape...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Enjoy the creativity of what you guys are doing. Down right Inspiring. My only problem with it is you still have a cheap tool box. Kind of like making a Silk Purse out of a Sows Ear. But I still like the creativity and the great ideas. Good Work.

Making best use of limited space

You have a tremendous amount of space above your car. You could make a frame for a sheet of plywood of 2x4's. With a 2x4 brace in the center using screws. Then finish the frame and plywood top. Place eye bolts, nuts and washers at each corner. Then hang that platform from the ceiling with eye...

    Oak or Poplar siding

I would go with cedar or a synthetic siding. Poplar is a bad choice as it is too soft and rots. Oak splits, rots and will not be cost effective.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

This is my most recent Vise purchase, although I made it a few months ago. Purchased it from that Deputy in Hillsboro, Michigan. A great guy by the way. This will be my working vise as it was with the previous owner. Great Patina and a very solid good working Vise. One of my favorites. It is the...

    How do you re-engineer trusses?

The key thing about a Truss is triangulation. It would be wise and proper to consult with a Truss Engineer if you can afford it. I think you will be surprised by the simple design solution he/she will come up with. He/she will create a triangulation based upon your design needs and support each...

    Why a Radial Arm saw

Before the advent of sliding crosscut miter saws Radial Arm Saws were very popular. They were the original sliding crosscut saws, but you could also rip stock with them too. They were a very versatile tool. But the newer sliding compound miter saws have been the death of Radial Arm Saws and...

    Oscillating Multi-Tool

I purchased the Harbor Frieght unit because it was inexpensive, worked pretty good and I really do not use the tool that much. I used an original Fein and liked it a few years ago but the price was prohibitive. The HF unit works almost as well. be sure and pay ten bucks more and get the variable...

    Which Cabinet Table Saw?

I need a new Table Saw. My woodworking skills have progressed enough to where I want to step up to a Cabinet Style Table Saw. Considering a 10", 3 hp, saw in the under $3k range. The issue is which one? The Saw Stop is a good unit that emphasizes safety, maybe overly so. Reviews are good...
