Speed Handles --- What They Good For?

I use mine, a 3/8 Craftsman, a lot. Handy for stuff with a lot of short bolts that aren't torqued very high--it is about the fastest way I can get them on and off with just a non-powered hand tool. It's faster than walking back to the house to grab a drill or cordless screwdriver.

    Self propelled lawn mower(s)

I have a Hart, which is probably just a Ryobi with a different sticker and white plastic. (and the fact Walmart simply didn't just elect for rebranded Ryobi 40V batteries). I'd honestly say one 5 Ah battery outlasts a tank of gas for what I mow. As it has a plastic deck, it's MUCH lighter...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Good thing is that the farm shop here has a welder, a 1986-ish Lincoln IdealArc 250. American LaFrance operated here in my town from '86-94, and they only used that model in the plant (plus the trucks all had stainless bodies in an attempt to compete with E-One's new at the time aluminum body)...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

First of all, I hadn't used the mower lift in quite some time, but when I dragged it out from beside the shop, the metal legs that lock it in place had bent. It took a 24" pipe wrench (held by the ground and my foot) and 15" Crescent wrench with me on the other end to straighten it crudely, then...

    Help Identifying Vintage Wrench

Looks a lot like my Coes by Billings--which I'm thinking is '30s-ish.

    Master Force India

I'm pretty sure most store brand wrenches are India these days. Back when Lowe's was blowing out the open stock Craftsman and Kobalt--I had a mix of Taiwan, India, and China between the standard and ratcheting wrenches of those two brands I got--with quite a few of the standard wrenches being...

Haven't seen one (or similar) at my Lowe's lately in quite some time. I think the old one was Project Source or another store brand. Definitely something I need to pick up as a backup to my current Bauer one (which is surprisingly nice).

    Let's see your axes

That's the reason I still have an Estwing, even though I rarely use it as a general-purpose hatchet. A year or two ago, I had a Stihl Forestry Hatchet handy along with my chainsaw (or I may have just used the axe itself--don't remember) cutting some dead trees, and needed to drive a plastic...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

On a regular basis, and it typically involves stuff with an engine and getting it stuck. It's why I got banned from using any tractor unless I had a spotter. At least with the 5400, it being manual prevented me from driving it. The 3038E drives like a lawnmower, so I can drive it rather well.

    Let's see your axes

Plumb Belt Hatchet--bought for just that--something that's light, but more solid than my plastic Fiskars. The handle you see on it is no more. It was a bodge job that involved a chunk of wood to shim a hammer handle with the wrong size and shape of eye (it was, at least, 1/2 too small). It...

    The strong arm of tools

I rarely have need for 3/4 drive these days. If it's "on too good" I have impacts--pneumatic and soon cordless; for most tightening stuff, a long 1/2 ratchet usually is enough; and 1/2 does get into the 1-in and larger sizes I typically used to get the 3/4 out for. I don't know why my Granddad...

Help me find a 3/8 spinner handle

Been wondering how well PET-G would hold up for something like that. I've got a few of the wobble sets that HF had free with purchase, and I've already got that same handle design on the PC. But, an A1 can't do ABS.

Gonna have to do something similar. Even with the 3D printed racks I have now (a modular design off Makerworld), I still have to use a deep drawer; and both my top chests only have one.

    Got it done.

Love it! The basement floor has long needed a lot of attention, and I'm leaning more into garage floor coatings instead of paint as it has been for 50+ years.

I learned my lesson with the 213-1983s. I had assumed they were just 6" Snap-On since the 6V-6192 (and most other pliers in the catalog) were Snap-On. They're basically black Channellock 526s at double the price and black grips.

    What’s a decent 1/2”air impact ?

Mine's the mid-tier McGraw from Harbor Freight. Does the job decently.

Recently moved to the Icon as my workhorse knife because it has the same warranty as hand tools. If I damage it by accident (mostly from drops) or the clip bends, I can just exchange it instead of having to send it off to the manufacturer. Definitely going to put that Wiha on order since my old...

    3/8” or 1-2” cordless impact ?

1/2 simply because I've already invested in them for my pneumatic impact. Also, Granddad had a bunch of them in addition to my new Harbor Freight Pittsburgh set.

How do you store your electric extension cords?

My main one is on a reel (which has the female plugs built into it), which equates to rolling it up and putting it back on the shelf. For all the rest--I roll them up, wrap the roll with the Velcro cable tie I attached to one end, and then put it away--either on a nail or a shelf depending on...

That's what I was thinking. While not the best quality, my old RoboGrips are great simply because they clamp down on whatever I'm working on without having to adjust them. The guy who fixes the furnace is the same with his. Thinking they're due an upgrade. They were my folks for 20-30 years...
