Just my $.02 -- I'd spend the money on a quality replacement pump and motor. That 5HP is probably 3HP running. If the receiver is in good shape you could build a real nice unit for around $500 (that includes the pump, the motor and a mag starter).

Thanks -- great idea!! I have the perfect use for that valve. Draining a hard to reach airline in my friend's shop. He has a manifold and drain right behind a huge milling machine. We've been looking at auto drains, but with a 4ft. cable, the problem is solved on the cheap!!:thumbup:

It's a 1/4" NPT thread, so just get rid of that cumbersome valve and put a 90 degree elbow on it along with a small easy to reach ball valve. I have one on my portable compressor because it was frustrating the heck out of me to constanly bend down and try to loosen that cheap "winged" drain...

Agreed -- there is usually something amiss with folks who give kids potentially embarrassing names. Wouldn't be surprised if this is a "payback" situation by the tennant for perceived wrongs, and the police are quietly on their side.

Agreed!!! Based on the casters, it looks like a Taiwanese 1.5 or 2 ton model. They were great jacks though -- the higher end units were of excellent quality.

Thanks for the education Monte. All I can say is --I'm glad I bought most of my MAC and Snap-on tools in the 1970's. The average mechanic could still afford them at that point in time. I'm also glad that we have very decent US made Craftsman hand tools that the average home enthusiast can...

Thanks for posting Monte! To afford those tools you'd have to take out a loan against your house. Those prices being in "Euros" makes for a very expensive proposition. I don't see how German mechanics can afford top quality tools given those price structures.

How about a wireless line of sight bridge -- it's easy plug 'n play, stays above ground and is easily upgradeable.

The clamp easily measures amperage. Most VOM are only capable of mA measurements. Trying to measure amps above the mA range could damage the typical VOM. With the clamp-on meter you can easily measure line current into much higher amperage ranges.

What kind of Multimeter? Digital or Analog? If you're mostly working on cars, or IC's you will need a good digital unit, since proper voltage, ohm and mA readings are mostly read within a specific "low-high" range. Good digital units usually include a temperature probe, and an audible continuity...

That early model 131 was a nice machine Rick. I remember they were popular about 10 years ago and had the brown/orange color scheme. The later blue color scheme versions were not as well received. I've seen many hobby shops that still use those 131's. Parts are hard to find, but they are doing...

AFAIK most all of those drain valves are standard 1/4" NPT -- although I've seen some Asian imports with metric drain valves.

I agree, but the irony of today's American brand welders is that once you open these things up and take a look at the parts and components, you'll be surprised by how many are actually made in China, Italy and Taiwan. I'm sure it's good quality stuff, but most of the components are not sourced...
