Level of expertise doing auto repairs

Pro, although I don't do it for a living anymore. Have you ever heard the phrase, "make your hobby your job and you'll never have to work again..." ? Well for me it was more like "make your hobby your job and you'll never have a hobby again." After many years at a dealership and several more...

Any of you have a JD2 Tubing Bender?

Since we're on the topic of tubing benders, I'm in the market for one and the JD2 model 32 is what I had my eye on. Is everyone happy with their JD2 bender? Anyone wish they had gone with one of the other similarly priced brands instead?

    Trusty-Cook, Ideas For New Hammers

A brass face option, especially a replaceable face, would be great. And if you're looking for a new color option, I'd LOVE to see some orange (go Tigers).

    Chassis ear?

I've used the wired one many times and found it extremely helpful when diagnosing suspension noises, creaks, pops, etc. As long as you take care with the wires when using it or putting it away, they're really not that bad.

    snap on gax36

If you're planning on buying one of these, it might be worth it to take a look at Matco's CXP36BBA. Unlike Snap-on's GAX36, the Matco piece is 1/2" for the length of the extension, reducing to 3/8" only at the end. I've used both. The Matco is a good bit heavier, but I felt that it works better...

    LED Flashlight - Recommendations?

Really? I feel like my Stinger is the toughest light I've ever owned. Granted, I've never used it as a hammer, but it's certainly seen it's share of drops and bangs over the last 4 or 5 years in an auto shop environment.

    LED Flashlight - Recommendations?

Without question the best flashlight I've ever owned. A bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015ZO8VG/?tag=atomicindus08-20 If you shop around, you might find better deals elsewhere. I would definitely recommend the "piggyback" charger though. It has a...

    Safety glasses

I really like the 3M Securefit line. They're extremely light (less than 1oz) and fit snug very close to the eyes. As long as they're clean I don't even know they're on. The one drawback because of the design is that you absolutely cannot put them on with one hand.

snap on kra classic 96 or 78?

My classic 96 was on the truck (and I got a great deal on it) so I can't say anything about the ordering process, but I can say good choice and you'll be very pleased with the box. My first box was a 78 but it didn't take me long to upgrade to the 96. One thing I highly recommend is the...

    Optima Charger?

I have both the 1200 and the 400. The 1200 is a fantastic charger, especially when dealing with a deeply discharged battery. I'm not sure if the 400 can manage a full size auto battery that's deeply discharged. Honestly, I've never even used my 400. I've never had a need for it, as the 1200 will...

    Show us your welding projects

Thanks for the pics. I like the idea of mating 2 of them together for a 12" brake.

    Disposable gloves.....recommendations?

The Microflex Midknight series are my favorites for automotive work. They're a bit on the pricey side but worth it to me. They're very durable.

    Snap-On 25" ratchet durability/use

I never use any of my breaker bars. My Snap On 25" ratchet takes all of that duty and I've never broken it. One of the screws that holds the cover plate on the ratchet head recently fell out though.. :headscrat

Need a new pair of boots

I'm a big fan of Redwing as well. If you can find a Redwing store near you, I highly recommend visiting them. Fantastic service at every store that I've been to. At my local store at least, they will clean and condition the leather and replace any laces as needed for free. I drop mine off every...

    GearWrench 80718 3/8 Drive Master Socket Accessory Set, 63-Piece $73.70 @Amazon

I keep this set in my truck. Not as much range in deep sockets as the OP, but it's got 6 & 12pts in the shallow 3/8" drive. An overall fantastic set in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005MVB7HM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    New Kobalt stepless ratchet

This has never occurred to me. I had been eyeballing that Mac gearless ratchet for a while but never used one. I guess I'll pass on it because that would be a big deal for me too. Whether it's audible or at least a feel, you need some sort of feedback.

Love it! I would insist on hearing the Imperial/Vader theme music every time I walk across it.
