galvanized pipe for direct bury ?

Galvanized is great protection against rust, but any imperfection will let rust get started, plastic doesn't rust, ever. The gas company switched to it for good reasons. I'm not going to tell you to dig it up and redo it with the stuff that's made for underground natural gas, but it wouldn't be...

    Boiler Problem? need help

Almost all of the air bleeders are automatic, if its leaking water the seal on it has started leaking. It's a very common thing with them and I have tried taking them apart and cleaning them, but most of the time they still leak. Best to just replace it so you don't have to worry about it...

    Cost to reconfigure HVAC system

Even with pictures there are way too many variables to give a price that's anywhere close to what you will get for a price quote. The best I could do is anywhere from $1 to $100,000. Get a couple quotes ignore the price and go with the company that's going to give you the best quality. Even the...

    Boiler Problem? need help

Sometimes the refill valve gets stuck and the pressure gets low, lets air into the system, pump gets air lock boiler overheats and pops the pressure relief, hard to say for certain.

    Boiler Problem? need help

The air release can be left open all the time, that lets the air out any time it develops. Don't see an automatic fill valve in the pics, do you have one to refill the boiler as the air release lets air out? What psi is the system at?

Pex is the best thing to come around when you look at the other choices Galvanized pipe- rusts from the inside out, difficult and time consuming to install Black pipe - also subject to rusting, also difficult and time consuming to install PVC or cpvc - cheap and easy to install, cheap and easy...

Furnace blows semi warm air for 3 minutes, gets lukewarm, shuts off

http://www.ismyfurnacesafe.com/exchanger.aspx Check this link dropshotter, plugged drains and the symptoms you have point to the secondary heat exchanger delaminating, once that happen it rust through from the inside out. I see this a lot on carrier furnaces, I've even seen it on very new ones...

Furnace blows semi warm air for 3 minutes, gets lukewarm, shuts off

I've said before in this thread never bypass a safety switch, besides if you have an airflow issue running with that door open will hide the issue by allowing extra air in. If you truly did just have an HVAC company out there to clean your ducts and service the furnace you should call them back...

Gas water heaters and combustion air

I think you may have an extra zero in that btu rating, 40,000 sounds more like your average residential water heater. 400,000 is more like a water heater you would expect to see in a very big laundromat, or an apartment building. The space in the garage should be enough for a 40,000 btu water...

    Recommend leak detector...

Ohhh, automotive ac, that's a whole different animal. If you suspect the switch just replace it, please take it somewhere to have what refrigerant is left in it removed then replace the switch and do all the o-rings a set with every o-ring only cost a few bucks and that way you only have to...

    Recommend leak detector...

He lectured you because the EPA is very strict with refrigerant and the regulations regarding its recovery. They are the reason ac repair costs as much as it does, and none of the tools are cheap. Its easy to have 2-3000 dollars in tools just for working on air conditioners, then there's the...

    Recommend leak detector...

The problem with Freon leak detectors is cheap ones don't work very well and the expensive ones are hard to justify if your not using it on a regular basis to make money fixing ac equipment. Soap or leak detection solutions work as long as the leak isn't in the evaporator or condensor coils.

    Heating Options???

Forced air will have the fastest recovery as in raising the temp when you go out there, available in both propane or electric. Overhead radiant heats the things in the room that in turn heat the air, you would be one of the things it heats also. It's nice when you standing under it but cold when...

Furnace blows semi warm air for 3 minutes, gets lukewarm, shuts off

Replacing the flame sensor will not fix your issue. This sounds more like an airflow problem and can't be properly diagnosed over a msg board. I highly recommend you have a reputable HVAC company come out to look at your problem. It's cheaper to pay someone who knows what they are doing then it...

Anyone use an overhead mounted oil furnace?....

I wish the laws on HVAC were half as strict here in the states, your really required to replace an oil tank after 20 years. I've seen tanks that had to be 60 or 70 years, legs so rusted I was scared to change the filter on the tank. I once saw a tank where the homeowner had built a new base out...

suggestions to find a very slow gas leak?

In Wisconsin the gas company will come out and check at no charge, most HVAC companys will also come out and look for you but they will likely charge you. The actual leak detector solution does work better then soap, I've heard of guys using a lighter to check but its not very good for very...

Furnace blows semi warm air for 3 minutes, gets lukewarm, shuts off

Tim I figured thats what you were getting at, jumper it out as a test, I have seen them permanently bypassed though and for someone that admitted he has no clue what he's looking at I just wanted it to be clear that it's no ok to bypass thes things. As for the switches going bad your right it...

Furnace blows semi warm air for 3 minutes, gets lukewarm, shuts off

It's probably not your high temp limit, never never never bypass any safety features. It's rare for that switch to actually "go bad" usually the switch is doing its job and shutting the furnace down to prevent further damage or a dangerous condition. You admit in your post you have no idea what...
