    Plasma cutter and under-powered compressor

Quick update - after a bit of experimenting (using @sherlocktk 's advice and more googling, (and the plasma cutter was on sale again), I bit the bullet and bought the one in my first post a few weeks ago. I looked at torches but didn't like the thought of renting tanks for such occasional use...

    truss repair

As @strutaeng indicated, the bottom chord of a truss is in tension, and is not subjected to large bending stresses (unless you store heavy stuff in the attic space or walk up there!). That said, for peace of mind I agree with the plywood scabs on either side. PL premium is probably overkill and...

    12x16 shed questions

nice structures! Yeah I think the OP is planning standard stud walls but (probably mistakenly) referred to the wood floor as post and beam.

    12x16 shed questions

I think your post plan will be fine. I built a shed a few years back, link below. I went with a pad, but the rest would be very similar to your plan. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/12-x-16-storage-shed-making-room-in-the-shop.340070/

    Garden Hose Quick Connects

The LV ones have a 1/2" ID at its smallest point which is the male connector. I have a few of them in use now for I'm guessing 4 or 5 years - light use mind you, but still not leaking and no washer replacements.

    Label makers

I have a P-Touch and it does what I need. IIRC the leading and trailing margin can be minimized in the menus. Edit: Racer_X beat me to it

    Riding Mower Battery Life

Pulled the mower out of the shed yesterday, and installed the battery. Didn't bother charging it beforehand, but checked the cell levels as I normally do each spring. Crossed my fingers and it fired right up! Noticed the battery was 10 years old now, and thought of this thread...

Ideas to remove these post ties?

Yeah, there are a total of 12 in the slab. So the 8 interior ones would go. The sitting bench is an interesting idea!

Ideas to remove these post ties?

Hello GJ'ers, A few years ago I put in a slab for a hot tub and planned to build a gazebo. We've had the hot tub in place without the gazebo for a year and a half, and we love stargazing while in there. We've decided not to build the gazebo for that reason, and instead build a pergola. The...

My crazy, year long furnace problem (and solution!)

Fitter, no the insulation looked fine at the connections. No indication of overheating that I could see. I cut back the wires to get a fresh connection for the new switch, and it stripped fine, not like hardened, burned insulation would. Yeah, I was expecting to find more of a smoking gun when...

My crazy, year long furnace problem (and solution!)

I believe I posted in a few other furnace issue threads as a 'me too', but I recently solved my original furnace problem. I thought this would be useful to some, or at least a bit entertaining. It all started about a year ago, when I started a new job in the New Year, and was working from home...

    Plasma cutter and under-powered compressor

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, for the amount I would use it, I can't really justify upgrading the air compressor on top of an already spendy purchase. The circular saw looks interesting, I will take a closer look at that. Based on my needs, maybe a simple torch setup is the way to go for...

    Plasma cutter and under-powered compressor

Hello GJ, This plasma cutter is on sale, and has been on my watch list. I don't do a lot of sheet work, and I have a metal bandsaw, this would get occasional, light use. Mostly thin stuff, 3/16" and less. https://www.princessauto.com/en/procut-30a-plasma-cutter/product/PA0008784639 My...

Anyone use propane for heat? what are your thoughts?

Aside from recent issues with my furnace (now resolved), I have been very happy with propane heat. We transitioned from oil to propane about 10 years ago. We have a 1000 gal tank that gets filled once, usually in late summer when I call them.

    Heil furnace troubleshooting help

I learned the proper term for what I was calling a drain pan - its called a condensate collector box. On my furnace, its mounted to the face of the heat exchanger, and collects the condensation that is generated. Furnace guys replaced it this week (they confirmed there was a tech bulletin to...
