Radiant heat on top of existing slab with new plywood floor on sleepers?

I will be building my new shop in an existing garage that has concrete floor. I was already planning to install a 1” plywood floor over sleepers. Would it be feasible to look at radiant heat on top of the slab between the sleepers? Has anyone here done it or have ideas on it? We do plan on...

I got a call from my high school shop teacher

So I got a call from one of my high school shop teachers ( from 40+ years ago). He is moving / downsizing and wanted to make me an offer. His Powermatic planer was just too much for him to handle anymore. Made me a great deal, figured I would appreciate the machine and have the ability to move...

    How to preserve the patina

I found this tractor hood and plan to make a hanging shop light with it. The plan is to mount LED lighting in it and hang it over one of my work areas. After cleaning this up, do you have any suggestions for a coating or sealer to preserve the look? Thanks

    My version Stickley book shelf

We prefer mission style and our home and furnishings reflect it. I built a bookcase based on a Stickley original piece. All quartersawn white oak with real through tenons. Ship lapped back is QSWO as well. Thanks for looking.

    Walker 2 ton jack

I went to a sale over the weekend and picked up an old Walker 2 ton floor jack. Seems to be in very good shape other than someone slathering it with black paint. I did not see a model # but it is probably covered in paint. Any ideas on approximate age? Figured I could not go too wrong for 30 bucks

A bit of white oak for the sawmill

I thought I had enough white oak to last me, but I ran into these recently. Not often you find white oak logs near 300 years old. Will probably cut a couple of slabs off the end for table tops just because they are so old. Plan on having it all quartersawn.

    Steampunk lamp

My son is into steampunk stuff. I built this lamp for him as a gift for Christmas. The big pressure gauge was salvaged from the grade school he attended before it was torn down. The red valve is the on/off switch.

Found a Wilton in the wild

I had to go pick up some things for work at a sale. While nosing around I spotted an old Wilton 450 Vise on a bench in a shed. When I inquired they said I could have it for $50 ;) A few moments later it was in my truck headed home. Looks like it should clean up pretty well :)

    Backsaw rehab

Working in my shop one night, I decided that this homely Disston backsaw needed some attention. After a couple of hours with some rasp work, this is the transformation I came up with. Same handle with some detail work. It has gone from an ugly duckling to one of my favorites

Arts and Crafts style column builtin

I am in the midst of a bathroom remodel (which will have it's own post later). We live in old arts & crafts style house. During this bathroom rehab, we chose to lose a closet which was our storage and hid the laundry chute. I decided to build a craftsman styled column built in that would serve...

    10 ft woodworking bench

I recently picked up this old woodworking bench. It is 10' long with 2 vises. The top is made from 1 piece of oak that is nearly 10' long, 12" wide and 3" thick. I do not have room for it right now in my shop so it will be used in our garden center in displays

    Flag display case

I finished this just in time for Christmas. I built a display case for my father's veteran burial flag. Made of walnut and given to my mother so she could display it. The finish is shellac and wax. The miters on this one kept me on my toes for an exacting fit. Thanks for looking

    Shop made awl

Was looking for a quick project and decided on a new awl. Made from 3/16 stock which was heated and twisted, filed to a point, then polished and blued. The handle was turned from a piece of apple wood from the yard and the ferule is from a copper pipe fitting. Thanks for looking :)

You can never have enough clamps

While moving an antique barrister bookcase, the base started to separate. We took it apart and hauled it to the shop. It was in need of repair and missing some of the old glue blocks. After cleaning everything it was ready for the final assembly. It took 13 clamps to hold everything in...
