    1/2 IPS Shower Hose Coupler?

I need a male-to-male coupler to join two Moen shower hoses. Moen says hoses are 1/2 IPS and they do use rubber washers. The couplers I've found are all NPT. Will that work with tape and/or washers? If not, any ideas what will and where I can get it?

    Plywood Or Melamine Or...?

I'm planning a 2x8 bench similar to this: The frame will be 2x4 but I'm debating material for the work surface and shelf. They're usually 3/4 plywood but I'm thinking about 3/4 melamine shelf board - it's cheaper and it being white better matches my garage. Another possibility is 3/4 MDF...

    Workbench Support

I'm going to build a workbench like this: It will be 2' x 8' built of 2x4 with 3/4 plywood or MDF for top and shelf - joints will e glued as well screwed. I won't be doing any really heavy-duty pounding, etc and it probably will never see more than 200#. So can I get by without a support...

Simpson Rigid Tie RTC2Z Connector Dimensions?

Anyone know the dimensions of the Simpson Rigid Tie RTC2Z Connector? I've found pix and drawings but none have measurements. Mainly I need to know the height of the outside of the leg where the 2x4 fits.

    Radiant Barrier for Garage Door?

My attached two-car garage is concrete block with an un-insulated door that faces north. Being Florida, the challenge is keeping heat out rather than in. I'm going to insulate the door and I assume it needs a radiant barrier. Is just some sort of foil (Reflectix, AtticFoil, etc) sufficient...

    2' x 8' x 3/4" Melamine Source

Anybody know of a source for 2' x 8' x 3/4" white melamine? I need some for cabinet shelves. Home Depot has 2' x 4' which is too short and 4' x 8' which is too wide - I could cut it down but that would waste half of it.

Attached Lid Hard Plastic Storage Box Recommendations?

Any recommendation of plastic storage boxes for my garage? Requirements are: No more than 12" tall and 18" wide to fit my shelves - length can vary Harder opaque plastic, rather than the thinner transparent semi-flexible kind Hinged lids Don't have to be waterproof - just tight enough to...

    Channellock vs Kobalt Saw Horses

Pic on the left is Channellock @ $25; on the right is Kobalt @ $20. Anybody know for sure if they're the same? Sure look like it and specs are the same.

    Patching Concrete Block?

The inside walls of my concrete block garage have some holes from toggle bolts the previous owner used to hang stuff - they're 2" or so in diameter. Never having patched masonry, I have some questions: 1. What's the best filler to use, preferably premixed? 2. How do I keep the filler from...

    Removing Tape Residue?

The previous owner of our house left several of those bolt/screw organizers with the little plastic drawers. They're the old style with metal case and hard plastic drawers. Both the cases and the drawers have some duct tape residue and some labels that I assume are self-adhesive. Problem is...

How to mount mount stuff on metal studs and concrete block?

My attached garage is concrete block walls on three sides and drywall on metal studs for the wall in common with the house. I want to hang pegboard backed with 1 x 2 furring strips on the common wall and cabinets (upper and lower) on one of the block walls. Course both will have to support the...

To Replace, Or Not To Replace?

There have been some recent threads on the subject, so here’s mine. We have a 3-ton Trane split system (i.e., heat pump and air handler, not ductless mini-split) in southeast Florida. It’s been serviced regularly and does a good job of cooling and humidity control. Nevertheless, we’re...

    Interior Two-Tone Question

Some garages, especially older ones, have the interior painted with a dark band a few feet up the wall and a lighter color above. Is that just aesthetic or is there some practical reason for it?

Please Help Me Find A Big Grommet

I need a rubber grommet 3/4" ID, 3/16" wide groove, and 1-1/4" diameter inside groove - OD (outside groove) and thickness aren't critical. I've looked locally but they don't have one that big. Any ideas where I might get one?

    Casters On 4-Post Lift?

I’m a complete newb when it comes to lifts but I’m considering a 4-poster in the 7–12K# range. I note some can be had with casters. That would be mighty handy but I wonder about the stability of an unanchored lift, especially one on wheels. If I’m putting a couple tons of automotive iron over my...

    Kolbe Window Repair?

OK, this is about my house, not my garage, but I think it still qualifies as on-topic. <O:p</O:p I have double-hung Kolbe windows. They’re aluminum-clad wood but I don’t know the series – probably “economy” grade. I do know they’re about 18 years old. Some of the sashes are hard to raise –...

    Southern Indiana Pole Barn Builders?

Any recommendations of pole barn builders in southern Indiana? I'm 75 miles south of Indianapolis and looking for someone to build a garage/auto hobby shop - more-or-less turnkey but I might DIY some of the interior finish. Nothing unusual - probably 24 x 40 with gambrel roof and concrete...
