Paint grit for a steel trailer deck

I need to paint my car trailer in the spring. It's all steel. The deck is a mix of smooth and diamond plate steel. Of course, the deck being metal is slick in the rain. What should I add to the paint to add some grit and traction? Is sand acceptable? Has anyone here had good results?

    10'x30' Mezzanine Engineering Glulams

I'm about to order the lumber to build a 10' wide x 30' long mezzanine along the back wall of my 30'x40'x14' pole barn. This will be for general storage. Extra car parts (not drivetrain), winter tires, misc. household goods, etc. The only heavy item I can think of is a 80 gallon air...

Home inspector couldn't turn on the furnace

Our system has both a heat pump plus a furnace. Outside temp was in the 90s and the home inspector couldn't start the furnace. I explained to the buyers that the system is set up to not use the furnace unless the outdoor temp is below freezing. They still want proof it works. So I need to...

    3 Way switch wiring

What do you sparkys make of this. I removed one of the two 3-way switches to upgrade it to a smart switch. The other switch I haven't touched yet. With all 5 wires disconnected from the switch I get: BLACK wire 0 VAC RED 123 VAC BROWN 123 VAC (white and ground not tested) Ok so far so good...

Which is the stronger better vise- Wilton vs Yost

I picked up a like new Yost that I don't know any thing about. Don't know the age or model. It has 5" on the side and yes 5" jaws. My other vise is a Snap On branded Wilton 1750. 5" jaws as well, but a lot smaller. The Wilton is a little tighter and smoother, but both are nice. Wilton has...

Best tips for not getting burned by contractors

After reading about yet another member getting burned by a contractor I'm curious what people have done to protect themselves. Maybe a better way to ask this is what are the best practices for vetting a contractor and how would you write the perfect contract?

    Best caulking for siding?

Need a recommendation. I have Truwood (composite wood) siding on my house and garage that needs the caulking repaired. Not sure what my painters used, but it's cracking after only a few years. So what has worked for you guys? Easy to apply, paintable, and won't crack. Not just brand...

    Heat pump not cooling

Tonight I noticed that my heat pump for the house was extra loud. Normal droning/vibration sound, but extra loud. Went out side and nothing amiss except the noise. Fan on the outside unit was not running. Went back inside and checked the thermostat which was set to 71, but the inside temp...

Arc Fault breakers tripping in the rain

Home: 2006 with Siemens breaker panel. Last night after it had been raining for a few hours we lost power to two bedrooms. I went outside and found two tripped AFCIs (Master bedroom and 2nd bedroom). Couldn't reset them. Noticed the bottom of the breaker box wasn't dry. Door doesn't have...

    Terminal crimper experts--

I need crimpers for all the usual jobs. Non-insulated, coaxial, spark plug wires, packard 56, open barrel, anderson power poles, heat shrink terminals, etc. What I really want is the Pressmaster frame, but with the dies being $40-60 a set, it's cost prohibitive given how many I need. Long...

    Frame and firewall paint

I'm repainting the frame and firewall on my Scout II. I already stripped it to bare metal and will be spraying epoxy primer. What are the more durable single stage paints that can be sprayed with an organic respirator? This is not a show vehicle. It sees lots of hard use and weather so the...

    Epoxy primer opinions and options

I will be painting a frame and firewall with epoxy primer. I have all the parts stripped down to bare metal and ready to spray. Most of the epoxy paints I'm finding however are quite pricey with the exception of Eastwood which has mixed reviews. So what else is out there and who are the...

    Welder Outlet

So I go to fire up my welder and nothing. Breaker is in ON position, but I cycle it a few times regardless. Plug in my other welder and still nothing. Put the DVM across the 2 hot lines at the outlet and I'm only getting 90VAC. Hmmm, it's only about a 6 ft run between the outlet and garage...

    Pro Welders weigh in

Opening a new thread since the other thread was going off topic. So harbor freight ($89 120 volt flux core) welders came up and welding pictures were posted. I thought they looked suspect, but the poster is adamant they're plenty strong for a trailer he welded up. "hammered the **** out of it...

    Xmas results in Divorce?

Wife bought me a $200 Sears Craftsman's card. :dunno:  What's left in Sears that still has USA stamped on it? I already have their premium ratchets and polished offset box wrenches. What else is there worth having? Do the retail stores carry the industrial wrenches? I've never seen them.
