Letter and number drill bit sets

I'm looking to pick up separate letter and number drill bit sets. I already have a ton of fractional drill bits so not really thinking one of the big 115 piece sets. What brands do you guys like? From what I see I can get Norseman, Cleveland and Chicago Latrobe from a number of places. It seems...

    Looking at a lathe

Tomorrow at 8am, I'm going to go look at this 11x48 South Bend. They are asking a $1000 for it. Not much for tooling with it, but my feeling is the price is good for a fairly bare machine.

    School me on Bridgeport mills.

Things are moving much faster than I figured with the home hobby machining idea. I might be able to get this bridgeport mill from work. Was pulled from the pattern shop a few years ago and has just been sitting since. If I get it, the plan is get it home, cleaned up and then have a buddy check...

    So...

I'm a mechanic by trade. Beside work, I have been doing side work for a while mainly on farm, landscaping, construction and snow removal equipment. It was fun for awhile, but I'm reaching a point that people ****. So that leads me to thinking about a change in the tinkering on stuff for hobby...

    JB weld vs kerosene

Noticed today my parts washer has a tiny leak on the bottom of the tank. Well I have been planning on changing the fluid so draining it isn't a big deal. Off the bat I thinking of smearing some JB weld on the top and the bottom of the hole in the metal tank. I use kerosene in my washer, do you...

    Lincoln idearc 250 physical size.

Could somebody with an old style idearc give me physical measurements front to back and overall height? I'm thinking about picking one up, but want to know its overall size to see if it would fit under my work bench. I know they are heavy so I don't need to know weight. Thanks.

    Another new brand at HF

I don't go to HF a lot, but when I do I give the store a pretty good once over. In the plumbing area I noticed a new name on the aluminum pipe wrenches, USA STD cast into the handle. The tag on the end said Pittsburg, maid in China.

    Dewalt flexvolt

Dumb question, will the flexvolt and standard 20v batteries interchange tool wise. Kinda like the flexvolt angle grinder over the standard version. If I buy the kit, will the battery work with my impact and drill and vise versa?

    Armstrong rumor

Don't know if this is true, but my Indy tool dealer buddy who carried Armstrong has heard this from his suppliers. The Armstrong name is not dead, it will be reintroduced as a completely imported line. Our thoughts is basically GW with Armstrong stamped on the tool instead. Take this for what it...

    Klutch hand tools

What is everybody's opinion on Northern's klutch hand tools. I'm looking to buy some things I already own high dollar doubles of, so I'm kinda cheating out on thirds. Stuff like angle wrenches, large wrenches, some impacts sockets and a few things as such for my road box. Since they were on...

Columbiano 503 1/2 vise jaw inserts.

The dynamic jaw inserts unexpectedly cracked and broke on my grandfather's old vise this morning. How do I exactly remove the insert. I'm asking for the expert's opinion before I start working on removing it. Once out, I'm sure a buddy can make new ones.

    New 8 mm gearwrench

Compared to an old one. Last time I bought a gearwrench set is when the flex heads came out so at least 10 years if not longer ago. My 8mm reveseable locked up the other day and I just got it warranty. I have to say they beefed up the open end a little bit on the new one.

Probably a dumb shop furnace question.

In my 24x24 shop I have a LP house furnace for heat. I keep the shop at 60 at all times. I checked the filters for the first time since buying the place last December. They were obviously pretty bad. Looking at how they were in the front cover, I don't think it's right since the furnace has no...

Question about Tap Magic cutting fluid

I started using Tap Magic a while ago and have no complaints. However, I noticed something yesterday that's go me wondering. I needed to tap a couple things last night. When I opened my two and die sets, I found my very common used taps rusting compared to the other ones not. Since these are the...

    You need to try M1

Strarrett M1 all purpose lube that is. I got my hands on this stuff a year ago and it really impress me. I don't see it get much mention in any what's the best spray threads so I felt I needed to get the word out. At work I use it for just about everything from prenetrat oil, general lube and...

Explain to me which Smith torch set up is the way to go

It's time to buy once cry once, I'm pulling the trigger on a Miller/Smith oxy/ac torch. No more messing around with cheap stuff. My big rebate that will cover a very good chunk plus special vendor pricing as made price a non issue. What I'd like is a little break down of the medium vs heavy duty...

Good price for a Famco 3 1/2R arbor press

I have a want for a ratcheting style arbor press and a Famco 3 1/2R rated for 5 ton popped up on CL for $350, no stand. I haven't called the guy yet because the earliest I could get there would be tomorrow, if I miss it, it's not the end of my world. So I don't know how flexible he is at this...

A good cheaper top box for road service.

My 6 drawer craftsman that has rode in the back of my truck is on its way out. For $100 in the clearance section 10 years ago, I'm happy with its service life. Slides are failing bad as well as the lock mechanism. In a perfect world, I'd love the reintroduced SO kra 60, but I don't want to beat...

    Removable feeder house welders.

Is there a real advantage of a removable feeder house to justify the cost. SO is the only one I know offer it, anybody else? I'm pretty solid fan of miller welders and most likely the brand I will buy when I upgrade my welder. The other advantage that the SO offers is the promise of 100% duty...
