    Exhaust fan shutter noise

Does the noise appear while the fan is running, or when it's not? A stiff breeze will pop mine up and down in the middle of the night if it catches one of the beat up edges just right. Mine is set back into a very deep wall and framed out with a door. When I installed a course screen to the...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

This was one of my girlfriends "let me help you in the shop" projects. She used the drill press to pilot the holes, ran the screws in, then painted it the next day.

    The No Budget Woes.....

Build/laminate list of doctors and hospitals near home and family homes, groceries for lovely bride, baby. Hide in diaper bag and house. Make/Hide spare keys for house, cars - easy to lose when juggling diaper bag, baby and groceries. Toddler-proof the house or at least outline needs/budget...

    Stripped screw removal.

Never touched a plane, but If I have enough room to lean on a drill, I simply use it as an impromptu light-duty impact with the "torque" setting low enough to rattle the screw. I think the main reason it works is that I can put a lot of force on the bit, keeping it in a corroded screw.

    Circuit Breaker Lock

Only time I have seen them is to lock them OFF when lockout-tagout in the dirty end of a bowling alley.

    Re-insulating & Re-Finishing Garage

What about leaving the 2x4 and fiberglass after your rewire, then cover the studs with foam board before drywall/plywood? Definitely easier in my mind, but you would have to run the cost per r value.

    No more misplaced tools

I can usually tell what's missing. If the box would tell me where the hell I left the tools, that would be cool.

any ideas for stubborn hinge pin removal

I used a candle a lot before i got a handheld propane torch. Won't get it red hot, but it's definitely a lot of heat if you get it in the right position and leave it alone for a while. Tap some threads in the pin, place socket OVER pin with bolt THROUGH socket.

any ideas for stubborn hinge pin removal

Does the center "tab" rotate around the pin, or does the pin rotate with the center tab?

any ideas for stubborn hinge pin removal

Spray it with PB blaster while you decide what to do next. Remember, you are going to have to get it back in there (just a guess) so a fabricated tool to provide the right force might be the right way to go. Check your c-clamps and vice-grips to see if one will fit from "push" side to the...

    blackening (coating) stainless?

Thanks for all the help guys. I know it may seem petty and trivial, but I'm sure you can appreciate trying to help out a friend, and wanting every detail perfect on one small project that he asked me to help with while serving for my freedom. I tried a heat test on the pin only last night...

    blackening (coating) stainless?

Seems that these super small sizes are usually used in boating, and therefore always stainless, but I guess I'll keep looking. Beiner was a thought, but this needs to pull tight to the vest and I'm afraid a beiner would be to sloppy and possibly catch on something Didn't think you could...

    blackening (coating) stainless?

Hoping a metal guru might be able to help me. Short story: How do I blacken (or de-shine) this stainless: Long story: A buddy in the desert asked me to rig something up to hold a pack on his armor better than the plastic squeeze clips. I have most of it figured out, but the only "fastener"...

Not Garage - Hot Yoga Room

Vent your clothes dryer into the room. Electric only, of course. And you'll have a lot of swampy yoga pants to wash.... recurring cycle.

The Eagle has landed! Now, how to get it off pallet...

Unbolt the rest of the pallet, leaving the two "skis" bolted to the legs of the compressor. If that gives you enough height, roll the "skis" on dowel rods.

    What gives?

I have had a similar experience. Last winter I borrowed one of those high-dollar infrared heaters and it held 50 degrees in my shop 24/7 and cycled on and off throughout the day. Gave it back and tried a 15 dollar milkhouse heater. It does not shut off and barely holds 45ish for the same...

    use, other than intended

My small apt/shop kitchen only had one drawer, so i improvised with some craigslist Kennedy machinist boxes. <a href="http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e146/funkdelic6/?action=view&current=IMG_1472.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e146/funkdelic6/IMG_1472.jpg"...
