The rotary was on CL for 11 days @ 200. It was in the middle of nowhere. He offered it at 135 so I had to buy it.

I just want it for lining up my drilling. Im working on small stuff all the time. Its funny I have been looking for these for a while and now I have 2. Ive already gotten PMs asking about it.

I think the rotary is new. No scratches and no wood or metal filings anywhere. In fact my biggest complaint is how damned stiff the handles are to turn.

It is phenomenally well made and it is really, really cool to use.

If by some chance those two guys fall out, let me know, maybe my pockets will get deeper. You really scored this month all around man, super congrats!!

Edited, just read your post about selling the x/y table. Now you just need a mill and lathe to go with the rotary!

Ih8ants, good scores!! We all have issues, you should fit in well. ;)

This has to win the award for the absolutely smallest CRAFTSMAN -V- logo on any tool ever. Yes, you are going to need to zoom in to see it. Stamped on a 1/16" hex key. Wow.

Top - .050
Mid - 1/16
Bot - 5/64

From a set screw key set I picked up over the weekend.

That's awesome! I just bought a Craftsman crowntop hex key set and the smallest one didn't appear to have a stamped logo. Maybe its not a Craftsman! So this begs the question . . . why stamp a logo so small its unreadable? Because you can?

since finding this site and lurking, I've gotten the bug, HARD. mainly plomb/proto because Los Angeles and I like the detail on the older stuff. But I have a very hard time passing anything up...

Here's from last weekend. couple estate sales on friday, marked armstrong ratchet for 7$ from the estate company that I don't like much, high prices+attitude. Second sale found some proto sockets, a couple small proto/plomb wrenches, proto spoon chisels??, cant remember what else, not much, 11$

saturday went to the beach so couldn't go to any sales.

sunday coming home from work saw a sign said f it and swerved onto the side street. cool guy, moms moving to idaho, couldnt take the stuff. he had a really nice metal parts organizer thing, big, went for 60$ including contents. nice big craftsman dpress, 50$. I have no room and my dad has one, otherwise it would be mine.
20150419_150413.jpg
20150419_155557.jpg
major things from sunday:
williams hbp-4 hammer
cman hammer
(hammer on right is the first hammer I bought, not from sunday, before that I didnt understand why people get hot for hammers. really like the part that connects the head to the middle part? lol sorry for my limited vocabulary)
20150421_231316.jpg
decent size c-clamps, Brink&Cotton, Williams, Hargrave
20150421_231628.jpg
cman circle-H extensions, sliding T-handle, speeder, breaker, 1/2" (to me looks like plomb and I've heard plomb did make things for cman at some point)
20150421_225336.jpg
little proto los angeles adj wrench 6"
and the thing I was happiest to have found, a 1/2" plomb female ratchet and from a picture I saved from somewhere, it looks like a 1928 marking. pretty neat. only a year younger than my grandma
20150421_223626.jpg
20150421_224905.jpg

35$ for everything including the book! i have way way way too many books. we chatted for a bit and he gave me his number, I may call him and see about the drill press even though I cant do anything with it :X I have issues...

also a thorsen hex drive socket set, incomplete but has a little flex handle thing and a cool box. didnt know thorsen was in oakland, ca.

All the stuff that plvmb made for cman should be marked circle u. The circle u logo looks pretty much the same as the circle h mark on the c man stuff. That breaker bar does look like my favorite plvmb breaker bar that I use all the time. What marks does yours have?

Not really a garage sale pick up ( I got it off C-list ) A Delta 40-44C scroll saw for $125 ( After a little haggling ) I was going to repaint it but it cleaned up pretty nice so for now it stays as it is. I drained the crank case and the manual says to use #10 oil Im new to that one, is there an equivalent name brand oil?

10 refers to the weight of the petroleum-based oil. When I used to change the oil in my car, I would always use 10W-30, 10 being a light-weight oil for cold weather, and 30 being a heavier-weight for when the engine was warm. Those living in the northern tier of the US, and Canada, would likely use 5W-30 oil.

I found some info on #10 oil a few minutes ago. But I accidentally closed the page. :(

#10 oil is a ISO rating. From what I've found online, any air tool oil will be sufficient.

l would use a non detergent oil in the scroll saw, since there is no oil filter.

The general consensus is even non detergent motor oil contains paraffin and shouldn't be used in this application. I did some searching and came up with this Mobil Light Spindle Velocite® Machine Oil
here are the specs

Mobil No. 6 Light Spindle Velocite® Machine Oi
Mobil Machine Oil
Food Grade (Yes/No): No
ISO Grade: 10
Type: Oil No. 6 Light Spindle Oil
Container Size: 1 Gal.
Container Type: Container
Trade Name: Velocite®
ISO VG: 10
Viscosity (cSt @ 40°C): 9.6

or this one

Mobil No. 10 Spindle Velocite® Machine Oil
Mobil Machine Oil
Food Grade (Yes/No): No
ISO Grade: 22
Type: Oil No. 10 Spindle Oil
Container Size: 1 Gal.
Container Type: Container
Trade Name: Velocite®
ISO VG: 22
Viscosity (cSt @ 40°C): 20.2

What do you guys think.

I got this early Craftsman 1/2" ratchet the other day at a pawn shop for a couple of bucks. Anyone know the vintage of this ratchet. It is a riveted, open side design with C-97 on it. That is all. No other numbers or letters that I can see.

Southern Indiana is not exactly the hotbed of tool scavenging. Getting a deal on Craigslist is usually pretty rare it seems. We are mostly limited to garage and non professional estate sales.

Picked several items this past weekend.

Craftsman 1/3 hp grinder with tool rests, eye shields, complete and on the stand in nice working condition. $40

Rockwell floor model DP about the early to mid 50's as best as I can tell and labelled from Pittsburgh. Dirty but runs like a sewing machine and should clean up nicely. $50

When I asked him to throw in the grinder, DP, tools and all for $ 90 He said ok.

Would anyone know if or where I might find any detailed information of any kind on the press? Thank you.

All the other sales that day were HF and flea market rejects.

Sorry to hear it's dismal. It sad to hear that and it's strange how some areas are worse than others. I live in So. Cal and regularly shocked how good we got it, all you need to to do is give yourself a very nice wish list and just wait and the items will pop up eventually with nice prices; I can't explain as we live in a young state but we did have a large aerospace industry. The only other state I wish I was in for nice finds is PA.

I also have to spend time in FL and extremely unimpressed with the offerings there on craigslist. It's actually painful compared to So Cal.

There's not a whole lot of info on your radial drill press but head over to http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=698&tab=4 and search through it.

Here's some more info but not much: http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=4557

Picked up this " 16" toolbox with tools " off of cl today. Been on for a few days and I could tell the ratchets were proto so I emailed him because I was driving past his area on my way back from LA. Didn't realize he responded till I got home but anyway after a little haggling via text message I settled on 20$ and I would pick it up at his place. Went out after class and grabbed it, got home and I was very pleased.

tmp_28940-20150423_214745-1205406312.jpg
proto 1/2 and 3/8 ratchets
Proto drag link socket (I don't even know what a drag link is)
Bigger and smaller proto pliers, challenger small pliers and proto mini pipe type pliers
2 big proto screwdrivers
6" crescent brand wrench
Bag of zip ties!!
And a surprisingly stout and nice feeling Stanley hex bit driver?

And some China stuff and Indian wrenches

Went in just expecting the ratchets so I was pretty happy. And if looking online is any indication, it'll probably be the highlight of my weekend.

Went to opening day of an estate sale yesterday that had tons of tools. The auctioneers must have mistaken chrome and rust for gold because the prices on the tagged items were insane. They wanted $700 for an anvil that was welded to its base.

Hahahahahahahaa

All in all I did pretty good. Supposedly the son in law came in before the sale and cleaned out all the Snap On tools. I still managed to come out with a few.

The body hammer is Snap On and the bumping hammer is a Fairmount. The one spoon is in real nice shape too.

Misc tools including Starrett hole saws with a Starrett arbor, tons of cut-off wheels, auto center punch, large Stanley ball pein, hand vise, jacobs chuck, chuck key that I needed for my lathe chuck, large General tap handle (needed this size), Bonney cam roller (?), Proto snap ring pliers, large Armstrong adjustable, a weird crimp tool, parallel clamp, a Milwaukee (almost) 90* attachment, a hunk of scrap steel and a block of aluminum to play with on my mill.

Misc Snap On.

Snap On air chisel with some tools (the seam splitter is Snap On).

Nothing spectacular, but I'm happy enough. Grand total for the day was $85.

I saw this info online as well. $20 for a gallon isn't too bad? I wonder how much is needed though.

darn Good, Is the Hole saw set for metal I take it?
And the Air hammer and Bits, Hammers, pliers, etc, all for $85.
I would say you did well!!

Reising45, good score ! Here is the manual:

http://vintagemachinery.org/files/PDF/Delta/1974-11-280.pdf

I h8ants, well worth the $20 imo. Keep that drag link socket for the big vise you will most certainly find some time soon, it'll take the swivel base screw out.

Mk3Mike, SCORE!! Love the body tools man, you did well!

One stop for me today, all the way across town but I went anyway...hoping...Wishing but not a lot to brag about. I didn't want to leave empty handed so I picked up the Steel Master card file box full of screws, 4" Craftsman adjustable and the two bar clamp/spreaders. She was asking $8 but I had a five, a one and a twenty and she took the $6 so she wouldn't have to make change. :)

Almost had a green ratcheting SO screwdriver from the pawn shop but it was pretty beat and he was firm on $16.95 plus tax. :x

Hit a few sales this morning and picked up these items for $55. A Yankee ratcheting hand drill, Reed vise, Craftsman block grinder with sanding disk attachment, Craftsman sockets and a few wrenches, Williams, Thorsen, Billings and the ones with the W inside a diamond.

Cali, Washington State, Ny, Pa, MI, and Il (chicago) are all hot beds. I find it interesting how items and prices vary across the locations.

^^^ T4runner,

Regardless of price you did very well. The attachment for the block grinder alone is worth what you paid for the whole lot. Reed vises are one of the best vises made.

These will make nice additions to your shop.

Not from a garage sale, but scored a sweet freebie from work!

Been eyeing this toolbox just sitting there for almost ten years... The other day I notice somebody mangled the lock.. I ask the guy who's area it is, and they said "yeah, so and so couldn't find a key so he mangled it to open it and see what's inside"... My response "He didn't notice the call for replacement key" sticker?

Anyways... I asked what's happening with it, and they said why? You want it? You can have it.

Finally, my turn! Two planned stops today, first one didn't have tools out yet, said tomorrow but I did find a couple pair of Wiss scissors, cheap china scissors and an outlet strip for $2.25
01872.jpg

Second stop mentioned LOTS of tools, there were a bunch but only a few worthy of grabbing. They were asking $53, I offered $40 and we met at $45 on a Craftsman box, two pair of Channel Locks, Armstrong wrench, Husky impact swivel and Craftsman crowfoot.
01871.jpg

Included in that $45 was all these new refrigerant cans and two hoses.
01870.jpg

Along with this Craftsman lathe, motor with 4 step pulley and knives!
01869.jpg

Then on the way home I saw a sign and made a slight detour, good thing too, I snagged this barely used Craftsman edger for $30, didn't even haggle!
01868.jpg

Total today was $77.25 :rocker:

I sell that R12 for up to $15-20 a can, nice haul!
