I have had terrible luck this year until today when I at least had some very small success at a couple of garage sales.

jq5jcy.jpg

Not sure if this is actually a success. I have never used these and they seem kind of gimmicky but they are very well made and I got them for $4.50 after some bargaining.....the missing one will now drive me nuts.

I found this in a bucket of stray tools and paid $.25 for it. It was greasy and the shank looked like it was used as a paint stirrer but something about it just seemed right so I ponied up the 2 bits. I was pretty happy with it once I cleaned it up some.

Had great weather and lots of GS in our area.

Picked up an assortment of old and misc tools in a wood box. Had a nice surprise, as the old wood box had a label and it was by Gilbert Toys and contained at one time an erector set. (Pic 1 & 2)

From Left to Right in Pic 3 is an L. S. Starrett Co. center punch, an adjustable screw holding screwdriver marked C.A. MANN & CO. BUFFALO N.Y. PAT'D MAY 16 1889 JUNE 15 1899", a #2 saw set and lastly, looks like a newer made blacksmith tool.

Pic 4 has 4 long threaded bolts, hose nozzle, Craftsman vise 391-5180 Made in Japan, and 3 boxes of screws.

I have a set of those and HATE them. My father bought them for me when I was a kid and got himself a set too. I've never had any luck with them. They slip and round the bolt off and cause ****** knuckles.
The box ends are fine though.

Thats kind of what I figured...someones bright idea but man they are nicely made. I have no idea how popular these were but I doubt I will ever find the missing one and its already bugging me....

I'll keep an eye out. I actually run into loose ones a few times a summer around here.

No GS action this week but I did find a couple good CL deals tonight.

First is a nice sturdy 4 foot high work van shelf which will fit nicely in my covered trailer for carrying trip supplies and tie downs/rope etc.
Shelf.jpg

The second item is what's on top of the shelf. A cool little (15" high) vintage desk top drill press. I never saw anything like it and for $10 I had to have it for future restoration. It has one broken section that will need repair and I will have to find an equally small motor for it. The bonus was pulling up to the owners house and discovering the seller was an old friend and former co-worker I had not seen in years. It's a small CL world sometimes.

$10 for the stuff on the left, $2 for the stuff on the right. Tried to put like types in each row of the trunk floor. Wood handle screwdriver row is mac sabina, then matco, the little 1/4 ratchet, break and sockets are all PowrKraft, nextrow is SK, then snap-on, then cornwell, and a williams super wrench. On the far right is a chrome vanadium wrench, SK flare, MAC DOE, Bonney cutters, and USA vise grips.

That press is sweet. And a re-acquaintance to boot. Any identifying marks on the press??

I have yet to look it over really close. Possibly a model number faint under a thick layer of paint. It's gonna take a little research yet unless someone on GJ recognizes it.

Bunch of sales today plus 1 pawn shop. Lots more tomorrow!

Pawn shop. $10, all sk, Williams, Mac, Matco, and craftsman. And a Crestology adjustable.

Snap on tune up set. $2. One wrench is Bonney, one is Mac, one is Williams. The rest are snap on.

Router table. $1

Metal desk. Came with 3 keys and works great! $20. Sorry it's lying on its back in the bed of the truck.

And my list for tomorrow!

No, I don't think its a pipe wrench; the teeth have the right bite to them, but that is for a bolt head. I wonder if it was an early attempt at a tool for rounded off heads like a vise grip? I'd bet that predates vise grips. Interesting wrench! Cool find!

Lots of nice Friday finds guys!

rmalkow2, that is a cool little DP! I'd say look for a bigger than homeowners sewing machine motor. You'd want variable speed on that... Do you have the missing piece?

It's definitely a special use wrench, not a primary wrench. I've been slowly getting them one at a time for those once in a while times when they are useful, if you use them right they do a decent job, but for 95% of the uses a fine tooth ratchet wrench is a better tool.

Last item is a Mystery, as it looks like a huge fish hook, but the threads make me wonder if its a clamp of some kind. If anyone can help identify it, let me know.

Mike

Ladder roof jack??
The top sort of looks like a spring compressor, but the big hook makes no sense for that.

Tell me I didn't screw this one up. Or maybe I did.

Just passed on a 1 ton Beebe chain come along for $75. 3 sales after work this morning, 1 with a few odds & ends - come along and a couple of axes.
Bought a old *** double bit axe for $5.00 and passed on the come along. Function normally, lot of rust everywhere.

What do these sell for normally? And 1st sales of the year in SE MT that I have been able to attend.

Thanks for the advice fellas.

This week ended with my favorite monthly industrial tool auction closing and I picked up a few useful things.
Sometimes the oddball item shows up that you did not know you could use until a picture sparks an idea. Case in point are these chrome side rails that were made for the roof of a work van but are pretty much exactly what I had in mind to build for the sides of my small flat bed trailer. These will bolt on with a few holes drilled and look nice in chrome to boot!
rails.jpg

Second item was this box of 4" band clamps. These may go into the resale pile but the price was right at $5 for the box.
clamps.jpg

Third was a NIB Craftsman corner sander. I've looked at these before when on sale but always passed. But a $15 price tag enticed me this time.
Cr corner sander.jpg

Next was the old engraving/soldering kit with metal box and supplies and the shackles. I'll keep a few of these and sell the rest.
engraver.jpgshackles.jpg

Next was a lot with 5 drill index boxes. All metal and at a buck each I will continue boxing up the ton of loose drill bits my father left me.
5 drill index.jpg

And just because I do not have a clean small hobby vise I went for this Wilton badged suction mount hobby vise. Something portable that I can use on any clean surface without damage and provide a third hand.

Blue Bomber, $25 worth of YOU ****!! My old landlord has a round top frige that is rusted out along the bottom and does not work and he still wants an arm and a leg for it. I'm totally jealous right now!

Nothing over here, one sale around the corner mentioned tools so I went by, mostly old yard/garden **** but they did have another stop light like I got last week only this one was spray bombed purple and yellow with the lenses also painted so that they light up L S U. I'm no sports fan and it would have taken more time that it was worth to remove the paint so I passed.

Hope the rest of you guys find some good stuff!

Thought I had struck out again and passed by this little garage that didn't have much in it. Got to talking and started digging through an old box. Pulled out a bunch of old indestro, a few sk, and some various other sockets. Plus a pretty cool set of old pliers (linesmans?). Turned out the guy has relatives down where I'm from and we must have chatted for 40 minutes haha. Anyway when he said $10 I didn't even bother trying to deal him down. Plus he said he was trying to downsize so I figured best to make friends and come back and see what else he digs up.

Those pliers look like the Uticas I have and they are old linesmans pliers. If its a Utica it will have three small diamonds on the side (usually close to the pivot) with U in one, ti in the other and ca in the last one and the handle will have a checked pattern.

Single edge razor blade scraper, and fold up rule, $1.00 for both.
The "File handle" was a dime, it's from a kitchen utensil of some sort,
l JB welded it onto the file tang as a handle.
Thought it made a pretty cool file handle.
can of carb cleaner.......... new roll of black 3M electrical tape............. and cool digital clock................ and box of outlet covers (not shown) 50 cents each.
Don't y'a know, l just paid $20.00 on e bay, last night, for garage door opener sensors,
and one of the guys from the garage sale might have a new set at home for $5.00. he has to let me know.

EDIT,
The folding rule has one of those slide out scales on it for measuring depth.

Bub, that file handle is Hysterical!

Still slow moving on tools these days! lots of listings, very few say the magic "tools" word.... Only spent $6 all-told

A NOS fine grinder wheel for a tools grinder (which I have) - $2

The Proto DOE was another $2 at the HS flea, and the Barcallo DOE's were a buck. I saw the small one (no name) and liked the looks, then found the larger marked Barcalo" and went for it. A lot of good sizes for just 2 wrenches: 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, and 3/4"...

Lastly a cracked globe Yard light. I wasn't sure this had a good battery despite being NOS, but when I brought it in the house, it lit right up... This one will probably go in camping and I'm thinking "tent light" as a night light. (I hate the absolute pitch black of the inside of a tent at night..)
