I managed to hit one estate sale this morning. The pictures looked promising, but the reality didn't meet the expectations. The prices of the few good things were way too high. I ended up passing on a complete 1/2hp Block Grinder. The asking price was $95 firm. There was an older Makita model 2708 contractor's saw with a $250 price tag. As well as a few Delta/Rockwell shop tools with 3 digit price tags. This was the same estate sale company that sold me the 400lb cabinet saw for $150 just last week. :dunno:

I did end up spending $33 though.

Asst. faucet screws

Jake, does it look like the WorkMate was blue originally? I've never seen one that color. (but the lettering on the jaw seems to match...) :dunno:

Nice finds all!

Yup, that's the original color. This is the only one I've seen that wasn't black. It's a heavy gauge steel, it weighs a ton.

I went to an advertised sale today that turned out to be a bust, then hit two "cold calls" and found some decent stuff. A bunch of Craftsman(saws, tubing cutter, pocket knife, square). Ridgid pipe wrench and hose cutter, Snap On wrench, unmarked tap handles, Dayton adjustable, Crescent adjustable, Williams Pliers, Stanley shaver.
Paid about $40 total

The old Billings and Spencer adjustable wrench is a Pierce Arrow.

Paid $5 for a set of Diamond Duluth horse shoes to help kick off the summer.

The Craftsman long bent nose pliers I found in the road on the way home (in the center turning lane conveniently). They are made in France. Facom made?

Jake - we were at the same sale! I was the guy in the black truck waiting for you to finish loading the Workmate. Pleased to meet you, after the fact. Concur on the prices for the workshop equipment - too high. I'll post my funds in a new post.

Nice little lunch time yard sale box o junk score, Pexto 8" winged dividers. Some oxidizing and one of the legs is slightly bent, but I think the lock nut and fine adjust nut are both original. I've been looking for one of these for a while, always too much $ or in horrid shape. $2 :)

Just picked up a 2 ton pump jack (off-brand, from China, headed to the scrap pile) and a Craftsman toolbox (top opens, 2 friction sliders below) for $20. Found a couple of snap-on, fuller (Canada), Husky and Stanley screwdrivers in the top. I had to take the jack with the toolbox. But that's OK.

I was wondering when we'd cross paths. Virtual handshake. :hellobye:
That one was just at the edge of my travel range. I wasn't sure I'd go.

It needs to be posted in the WM thread!

I just have the one picture for now, but I'll try to find the thread if I can.

EDIT - Outlaw, Which thread were you referring to ?

Beautiful day on Friday (5/22/15) for doing yard sales.

Pic 1 has little Disston saw, couple of older latches with neither having their original catches, and three 1/2" pipe clamps (two are pony and other is Brinks & Cotton).

Pic 2 is Craftsman phillips Screwdrivers from #2 to #4.

Pic 3-- Have to say previous owner used these chisels a lot, but all sharp. Craftsman Professional two of them, Bridgeport three, Dunlap three but made in Germany, Stanley 1 and Buck 1.

Pic 4 Didn't realize that Disston made hedge clippers. No. 265 and 8 inches. Ford wrench and a No. 432 Saw Set.

Pic 5 Rubbermaid mop bucket, wringer and mop, 3 old scissors and couple of twisty bulbs.

Pic 6 Harley Davidson chain leather wallet.

Pic 7 Motorcycle Saddlebags

I had the morning off from work, and was able to hit two Friday estate sales, a first for me. Sale #1 was with SWMBO at a property with beautiful grounds and lots of garden stuff advertised. No mention or pictures of garage tools, but a few things my better half would enjoy. We arrived to a sign up sheet but got in pretty quick. Unexpectedly, we immediately found a basement with lots of good stuff, including a large Craftsman roller chest full of hand tools! The chest itself was overpriced, but I found lots of goodies inside.

1 Carson magnifying glass, bench mounted with built-in light
1 Irwin 14 inch by half inch spade bit
1 hand brace with no maker mark
2 paint stirrers
3 hole saws
1 Craftsman sink tool
1 Taiwan made PVC pipe cutter
1 really cool Speedex wire stripper
1 no name coax crimper
2 1/4" Craftsman v-series ratchet and socket drivers
2 carabiners
1 chain splicer
1 complete DBE Craftsman wrench set!!
2 Father's Day Craftsman universal wrenches unused
1 Shelly wrench, made in England
1 Vlchek 3/8" combo wrench
Finally, in a box with 2 music box makers I found 61 pence, a Pirates of the Caribbean medallion and a 14 karat gold ring!!

Outside, SWMBO made a pile as well.
6220b95451985f6b848c8c17eab5c08d.jpg

We got the whole pile for $45.

I dropped SWMBO off at home and went to the second sale solo. I ran into Jakemac there, although neither one of us knew it. This sale gave out numbers, but I made it in on the third wave. Straight to the basement, where the the big ticket items had big tickets on them, as Jake reported. One again, I made a pile, but some of the items had tags on them and prices weren't negotiable:

A Craftsman leather tool belt
A pair of Klein lineman pliers with the original box
A Knopp voltage tester -
2 turnbuckles
3 handle holders
1 Stanley catspaw
1 Craftsman corner clamp
Some impact air tools
A pile of conduit electrical connectors
$12 for the lot.

After I paid for the above, I made a lap through the back yard and when I came back in, I saw this tucked under an end table in the dining room:

The price tag said "$150 for all". It was full of Craftsman, Bonney, Proto, K-D and Dayton goodness. Yep, it went home with me. The bottom drawer had some of the cooler stuff. Anyone know what the red handled tool in three last picture is for?

Overall, a good day. Some stuff to add to my collection, some stuff to sell, some stuff to make SWMBO happy. A triple win!

BB - I looked at that box as well. I saw a lot of good stuff in there that I would have grabbed if I knew that they'd part it out. But since I knew they would only sell it as a lot, I had to leave it alone. It was outside my budget this week. Glad to know that it went to a member.

It should be in the top bin, left hand side, towards the front, on the bottom of the bin. It was made by Waterloo.

Thanks Copilot for the extra info. The one I have says it's Made in Canada. But the label that would have the model number on it is missing. I think it's a model 79-034, but I'm still trying to decide which Type it is. Either 1, 2, or 3. Type 4 has changes that mine doesn't include. I'll post some detail pictures in the Workmate thread soon.

Today's sales were mostly a bust. I had seen a few promising listings down in BlueBomber's direction, but they were a bit far for me so I went the other way instead.

All I ended up finding were some 4" number stamps and a 16" plastic push stick for $5.

The stamps were sold to me as Brands, but I don't think that that's what they are. The numbers are aluminum or pot metal and would melt if you put them in a fire. There is green paint on the the first four, so I think that they were used to stamp crates for shipping. The sale was at an old farm that may have bulk produced eggs at one time.

The #5 is missing, and the #6 doubles as the #9.

Jake I'd agree; stamps for ink/paint, or maybe for making an impression on clay or wax for a mold. :dunno:

Slow holiday weekend: only two planned stops, (plus two more later that I'm waiting for them to open...)

I did take about a 1 mile side trip and "returned" about 5 sets of well aged "yards Sale" signs to their producers (all had addresses) and left them on windshields, (mostly) and a gate, and one porch. you know they are going to be pissed when they see "someone left trash on my...) and then see it's theirs... I hope I make their day! :pimpflash

My meager finds:

.50c for the tap Magic and dbl pulley, and $4 for the P&C combo, Thorsen DOE, and Crestalloy (Crecsent) needle nose form a TOO. The X-acto mat cutter was a freebee pickup from Freecycle.

I just found the exact same ratcheting driver this morning. No idea what it's for. Maybe someone knows.

I found one of the Buchanan tools a few weeks ago and I believe it was Mr. Jeff Moss that informed me that they were for a crimp "cap". If you plug the part number into Amazon you'll see the copper caps and the plastic insulators that are made for it. Looks useful for joining 2 or more wires and I'd feel better then just using a wire nut.

Garage/Yards sales are starting to really pick up now. A few items picked up today.

1/2" Powr-Kraft ratchet, Vulcan B-52 ratchet, same as a Williams, tiny 1/4" Wright ratchet and unknown German 90 degree cutter that says "for plastic only"

IMG_0692_zpsduk8fwa9.jpg

6" 1/3 HP Dayton bench grinder that needs some TLC. Fired it up at the sale and seems to run fine.

I swear I saw that exact grinder at a sale I was at this morning. I was just about to buy it and a guy showed up and the lady said he was here earlier and sold it to him.

The T handle wrench is a torque wrench for plumbers who work on cast iron pipes. It torques the no hub band clamps (5/16" nut - same as gear clamps) to either 65 or 75 in/lbs.
