Continuing again ...............

The last item has a little story to it.

Once upon a time ............
In a reality far, far away ..............

So, my buddy and I used to work in technical theater. That's a fancy way of saying that we were crew. In a world of Unions, we worked freelance for ourselves (we never crossed the line, and kept a very good relationship with the local Shop Stewards). One of the clients we had was a small scenic shop that eventually grew into a multi-million dollar business. It went from 10 employees up to nearly 100 at one point. My friend eventually went to work at the shop fulltime (to pay for 5 kids) and during that time the shop had to move 3 times into larger buildings to keep up with the jobs (and then they boned all the original employees by laying them off to cut payroll ).

So, what does this have to do with the last item I picked up ?
Well, when they moved out of building #2 they had to strip the place clean because it was rented. Not everything needed to be used at the new "factory" that they bought. So, much of it was scrapped. Some of it ended up with the employees. The item I picked up from my friend's garage was used to keep the air in the "clean-room" free from sawdust and dirt.

Pics 9-12 -
PowerMatic Airomax #1102 air filtration unit.
it takes 16"x27" 2" filters and has a 12" duct coming out
it pushes about 750 CFM

This thing is a monster. It could **** a cat though a needle and spit it out through the far wall !
I have no idea how I'll fit it into my shop with low ceilings yet, but I ain't gonna give up on it.
All I need to do to it is patch a hole that was cut into the side and buy a few filters. :bounce:

Jake, that saw blade contraption in pic #1 is clearly a vintage suicide machine. Any makers marks or coo? :lol_hitti

Continuing the cleanout of my buddies garage .........

First up are some smalls that he was going to send to the scrapyard.

Several hearts just skipped a beat or two and some stomachs lurched.

I realize this would be a monumental task, but stockpiling good stuff like this for people that wanted it would be appreciated.

Nice finds BTW!

About a month late, but these are a nice yard sale purchase from a while back. I'm in the midst of moving and in a rental place, so just stashed them in a storage unit until I had more time. Took them out now, going to set up an electrolysis bath and get them stripped to paint while it's slow in the winter and nothing else to do.

I bought 23 C clamps for $45. That's about $.25 a pound. I left all the bent/twisted ones, the chinese ones, and the light weight ones for someone else. Didn't want to be too greedy, just took what I can use. These are pretty much all Jorgensen, Williams, Hargrave and other forged steel US made. I was especially pleased to get the 18" ones, I had none of them before. I have a lot of 6 and 12 inch ones, but can use a few more anyway.

Nice! The two at the top in the center are bridge clamps. Heavy service!

So I made the last of the year purchase from a guy cleaning out his father's basement. I saw an ad for a drill press and of course ended up picking up other stuff.

First
Craftsman drill press with vari-slo pulley setup and craftsman stand. It's missing the badges so I don't know the model number. The previous owner built a 3/8 or 1/2" thick table that bolts to the drill press table and an overkill light mount. It ran smooth at the sellers house. I just have to realign the vari-slo setup as it got moved when I loosened everything up to get it home.

Whoa. My jaw's hanging open. I paid more than that for my plain-ol' C-man DP w/o a Varislow. Well done, sir!

Since I am back to work tomorrow this is the final result of my few days off, this is what I found in the last 4 days. I wonder if this is the last haul of 2015, or can I get another deal this year? Time will tell. Anyway, this all cost me $275 CAD (200 USD):

- Parts organizer FULL of electrical connectors
- 3x very large mill ******* files, USA made
- Gray Canada 3/4" drive socket set (13 sockets, one of them is an SK)
- Snap On vintage made in Canada SAE wrench set of 12 (up to 1")
- Snap On metric 10-19mm 6-point open end set (of 9), missing the 15 mm
- Snap On midget SAE wrench set in pouch, missing the 11/32
- Snap On metric midgets, 7, 8, 9mm, I have to warranty one of them
- Snap On Flare nut wrench set of 3, metric (10-15mm I think)
- Fairmount SAE offset wrench set of 12, great shape, they look new!
- Gray Canada SAE set of 11, missing a 7/16, 2 are non-Gray USA wrenches
- Mopar branded USA wrench set, open end (not pictured, some are non-mopar)
- Many more USA wrenches to list, however they are loose and not part of a set but they are all vintage quality.

I didn't exactly get it for nothing but I think I did pretty well!

We're about 250 posts shy of last year's count. I don't think we'll surpass it in the next 60+ hours. However, as Bagged just showed, there are still a few deals to be had out there. Who knows what we'll see before the fireworks!

Has anybody given any thought to who was earned the right to start the "2016 Garage Sale Thread"? I'm sure that there are some worthy candidates. Great finds this year, everyone! It has been a ton of fun to see them all posted, and this was one of the most frequently ready threads by me this year.
Yes. The poll is started. Look for 2016 garage sale.

Yeah BlueBomber, I don't think we will surpass last years thread post count. I think we had more participants this year but fewer posts from the regulars. :dunno:

I am guilty of not posting enough. And I didn't have a bad year so I really have NO excuse. Maybe I can shoot a few pics and post before the end of the year. In fact I am currently bidding at an online auction right now so maybe I will have something fresh later today.

Mike,

Consider it made by Union for McIntosh & Heather, and someone later replaced the lever cap with one made by Stanley. I've heard of several situations where a major tool manufacturer made tools for someone else - recall Wilton and Snap-on?

Though you might not be able to flip it for much, you have a good tool there.

BTW, my package came today and I must show the ontents here on GJ.

Blue Frog

Got the marked McIntosh & Heather 9" by 2" plane made by Union but with a replaced lever cap by Stanley (i.e. hence the "frankenplane" designation) cleaned up and here is some pics of it now.

Saw at flea market yesterday a Lovejoy DD10 52245 universal joint with one side bored at 3/4", but other side modified by previous owner to accept a 1/2" drive.

Does anyone have any thoughts on it's usefulness to anyone now?

Mike

I'd have to check the stats but I'm pretty sure I didn't post near as much this year as in previous years. One thing, my shop has been jam packed with **** I've picked up over the years and I was a lot more picky about sales I would go to, not to mention things I would actually buy.

That's my issue as well. It pains me the the things I've had to pass on because I already have 2 or 3 (or more) of them sitting around. I'm now having to get creative when finding a hole to stuff things. I had to spend a few hours yesterday re-organizing my garage just to store the things I brought home on Sunday. OK, I'll fess up, there was no "organizing". All I really did was push the piles around to make a hole.

I've been working the internet hard, but so far I don't see any sales before the end of the year, so it looks like the pick I did in my friends garage was my last haul of the year.

I'm already having withdrawal symptoms. :willy_nil

I've been at it pretty hard too for the past couple weeks, nothing to show for it yet but persistence pays off. ;)

You Sears guys need to check your accounts, I had $10 in surprise points this morning to spend towards $50 purchase. I may drop by and see what's on sale, I'm getting the shakes. :willy_nil

ALL: i know i would have posted a lot more and participated a lot more here on one of my old favorite threads, but i'm old and still can't get used to YOU **** as being a good thing. i never wanted my kids saying it and i do have 5 over 25 years old now. I also don't get the BANG THE NEIGHBOR'S WIFE over in Free Parking talk either so i decided to just SHUT THE FRONT DOOR.

maybe i'll change or maybe a WELL DONE or WHAT THE HELL might replace YOU ****, but as stated above if you guys are happy i'll have to change my attitude or just watch all your cool buys.

Just an FYI I did fill up another 20 x 20 storage unit with 12 foot tall racks and stuff everywhere. I'm picking up more metal cabinets to get some of it organized and you might have seen a few of the items here and there on other threads.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT 2016

Jake: if you need another vote of support i think you'd be a great host.

Nines: you've been a great host

So closed its a circle? That antenna mast clamp thought has merit if so, although I've never seen Ham/CB antenna gear un-plated, and these days std mast is 1-1/4" OD...

Yeah closed its a circle. I took a close look and they appear to be OD green painted so may have been something to do with military.

I watch my mouth around youngans and old ladies, unless they are cussing too but I have a sailor's mouth among friends.

Nines does not take much to influence me to spend money on tools anywhere. I am a junkie and do not see any signs of it getting better or kicking the habit. I am in good company tho.

Ok I am trying to figure out how to post pics, when I do I will post pics of my recent scores. Neighbor passed away this summer and family is selling the hobby farm and decided to have a auction 3 weeks ago. Only 100 number were handed out, so chances were good stuff would go cheap as it was a cold day (20's). I bought a propane torpedo style heater with a full 20lb LP tank for $4.00, a large Graco paint sprayer - I know it works, cause I used it last summer helping the family get the place ready to sell for $3.00, a power drain snake for $5.00 and a Walker stand up rider w/ 17hp Kawasaki twin and a 52" cut and 400 hrs on the meter for $75.00. If I can not figure the picture thing out can someone post them for me if I send them to you? I stayed around to help family pick up and they said anything left you want take it! So I came away with a Craftsman radial arm saw 3 porcelain 20qt caners and a lot of small stuff.

I also posted this in the vintage tool boxes of GJ.

Craftsman top and bottom "Heritage" boxes from CL for $100. The top box has original key and is in excellent condition, while the bottom box is missing the front cover and has a few dings but is otherwise is in excellent condition. Neither box has any rust to speak of. The top box has its original Craftsman Heritage logo underneath the yellow decal. I used a hair dryer on it today and managed to get much of it off.

I took a bunch of photos this afternoon, but my laptop is and camera aren't on speaking terms today. Will try to figure it out when I have more time.

Photos from CL ad.
