In the "If you're only going to come home with 1 tool, make it a good 1" category, I found a jellybean logo (NLT 1912) Bonney 504 'S' wrench this morning at the flea market (Lugz 2020_09).

No, each socket is marked with the full name, but no date code that I found. Hard to read, but there. Probably why I got it so cheap.
You did well.

I have never seen a jelly bean.

I had a good day today. :bounce: Rolled in to a yard sale that had a little bit of guy stuff stuck in the back.

First I found this old set of Proto 234 compound leverage pliers. When I asked the gal how much, she said "I don't know...they were my ex-boyfriends...how about a buck? Needless to say, sold!

Then I rummaged a little more and found a cigar box full of USA made HSS taps and dies. Mostly Greenfield & Morse with some other brands mixed in. When I asked her how much, she said "I don't even know what those are. I almost threw them away. But they're in a cool old box. Will you give me $5?" I think she was surprised when I told her; Yeah, okay.

Here are 3 (for me) unusual to find items that were the stand outs in the most recent trips.
The SK Flex/Swivel/Bucket Wrench set in pouch.
A new condition metric Allen T-Handle set.
And the last goober I honestly didn't know what it was till I got it home.
Just knew the handle said Snap-on.
Turns out it's 2 tools:
A TM9CSR 1/4 drive extension driver thingy.
and an S6118 flip socket for brake shoe retaining spring caps.
I have about 30 bucks in the lot.

This morning, a buddy of mine forwarded a pic of some tools his brother’s pal (in Maryland, I think) was looking to unload - was I interested? I spotted the blue Craftsman underline vanadium auger set box, two single-offset DBEs (guessing Bonney), and a mysterious wood(?) chest lurking under the heap, not to mention the numerous DOEs and adjustables.
“YES!”
A half dozen texts later, turns out the pic was a week old and the pal had since given them away.
Whomp-whaaah...
At least they didn’t end up in the trash.
The buddy still has some planes and bit-braces, but nothing I’m as hyped about.

I have two pair of the Proto compound pliers - Love them! I did some "pressure testing" into both lead and wood, and the difference is amazing! My go to slip joints, for sure

I did well today, mostly at stop #1 (of 3) ; I'd been there before a few weeks ago, and I guess I just missed this or he's added to? :dunno:

Now this crazy looking thing is actually a vise. bolt it down, have a stop setup (probably 2 so you have a corner) place the work piece and slide the shaft against it, and when you close the lever it pressure clamps into the work piece.

attachment.php

Heinrich Tools Gripmaster, still made and sold!

attachment.php

That was just the start - back row and nut drivers are Proto, plus one Plvmb, the old swivel is Long C Craftsman, three on the side are SO, Williams and SK, the green striped driver is a Craftsman No. 1 Robertson out of Canada.

attachment.php

More still - Starret calipers, Bell System crimpers Proto chisel, A Gam Style nesting driver/hammer - don't think its actually been used - Imperial tubing reamer, an griper (no name here..) and a vise jaw for tapered objects.

attachment.php

Second stop was light: a Hunting hat, (hopefully big enough at XL - I did not try it on as it wasn't to clean inside... )

attachment.php

And a SO swivel socket, SK socket that needs a new Allen shaft (easy fix- I'l probably fo with a long one) and 4" grips. last stop had the Egyptian styled necklace for my youngest.

attachment.php

All in all the tools averaged a buck each, so a good day

Went to a couple estate sales that were like Woodstock. Too many people chasing too few sales this time of year. Everyone must have JDD (Junk Deficit Disorder).

CM dome top grinder was $10. I probably overpaid for this 24" Diamond but this size is really hard to find $30. Smiths sharpening/honing set $3.

Forney C5

balmy 68 or so in central tx...
have been on the lookout for a 220v stick welder for some time.
today netted a forney c5 with a few accessories for 80 clams plus another $3 for a 50' like-new water hose.
gal last week sold me a spool of 0.35" aluminum mig wire for $5 - stating she'd finished repairing fence for her ducks and had no more use for it. there's less than half a pound missing from the spool.

Well, nothing for me today. The first stop was promising, but WAY overpriced. They said tomorrow was half-off day and they were making deals today. Half-off would still be too much. Second stop was a barn sale way out in the country. Total waste of time. Should have know given how weird the pics were. Thrid stop had a B/D 3/4hp bench grinder, but it was issing the right side guards and was more than I had on me. So, I headed home.

Jeff, these bell system crimpers I picked up - are they for some special use or are they intended for fairly standard crimp lugs so they crimp from both sides instead of one.?

I was happy to see these were made by PEXTO

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! I hate it when that happens! Sorry LS!

You definitely **** for that $10 block!

I was near a sale I had stopped by on their first day, so I stopped again to see if there were any tools of interest left. This was their 50% off day.

08 Feb 20-1.jpg

Found the Millers Falls 188A Push Drill I hadn't seen earlier but its handle was off and the spring was hanging out. It didn't want to screw back together easily--therefore I guess no one was interested in paying the $4 sticker price. The tiny =Craftsman= screwdriver was tagged for $0.50. The guy minding the tools couldn't put the push drill back together so he wrote both of them up for a total of $1 and the cashier, of course, took 50% off the total. Out the door for $0.50!! All I did was clean the gunk out of the threads and it went smoothly back together. Seven of the eight drill points were safe inside the handle.

Thanks Don.
The artisan 1/2" drive ratchets are not too rare in these parts I have about 6ish of them. The kraeuter is rare for me especially 1/4" drive.

We headed to an estate sale in Hayward, CA this morning. I saw a Heritage 1/4” drive set in the pictures and thought it might feed my 1/4” drive fetish. We checked out the garage and picked up a few tools but there was no sign of the Heritage set so I assumed that somebody beat me to it since we arrived late. There was a long check out line so my wife went to check out the rest of the house. I finally paid and put the tools out in the car. As I was re-entering the sale she called my cell phone and she had discovered a whole bunch more tools in the basement. That’s where the cool stuff was and I not only found the little Heritage set, but I picked up a leather handled Heritage carry box. As we were about to leave, I noticed a small Craftsman vise so I texted pictures of it to Shiftless. He called back with instructions to grab it so we did. Besides the Heritage stuff, I thought the Dunlap tool holder set in the box was a really unusual find.

Catching up to a few sales I’ve been to.

First up was a sale close to a job site meeting.
A SO side box, even came with key.

Drawers inside
bebd4d65377fa35f460375d7737095dd.jpg
A Napa wall cabinet.

Hit a sale today that sounded great in the ad, it was a good description.
A SO and Cornwall prybars.
Couple of KD fork tools.
Milton air pressure gauges
SO pliers,
Internal torx sockets
65dfb383b10d9299c30e9158976fcdcc.jpg

On the way home, stopped at a random yard sale. Guy greeted me and told me there’s more stuff in garage. There was a BluePoint service cart, I generally have a habit of opening drawers and looking at, but not the slightest intention of buying.

Wife tells me $75 and how she wants it out of garage cause he has that giant box on the wall.
I’m looking at other things and the guy tells me to make a offer, a couple times, finally I throw out $50 and he takes it.

I didn’t quite have the $50 in smaller change and I had to hand him a $100. The wife was giving him the evil eye, so I’m not sure what to make of that.

I never set out to get a cart today, I’m actually getting rid of one or two of mine. The guy practically forced me to buy it!!!

I have done that before. I check the garage first and basement second now with every sale for the exact reason. I have seen an empty garage and a whole workshop tucked in the basement utility room. Up here is makes a little more sense as you don't have to heat your garage in the winter time if you want to work on a project.

So is it a welding stick? You cut one end of that plastic sheath? I don't get it.

EDIT: I looked it up. It's for holding glass beakers and things in place in a lab environment. It's pliable. So you can wrap it round anything you want. I know what I would use it for. Wrapping it around the bottom of a coffee cup on a boat! :)

If only you knew someone who was interested in planes LS!

Ha ha. Fine, here’s the ****.
Truth be told, I’m quite intrigued by the little chisel plane on the left. And to a slightly lesser extent, the Flash Gordon looking plane under it. The burgundy-handled jack planes on the right look serviceable, but if they are Stanleys, they’re not very old. Post-WWII, anyway, right?

It came from a garage, and it was free. Not sure this qualifies as a garage sale item, but my Dad just gave me a Craftsman 3/4hp block grinder that my grandfather bought brand new. Someday this will get passed down to my son.

I wasn't able to find a build date, so I'm a little curious how old it is.

Notenuftoys, post it here to be sure, but I’d guess late 1970s or early 1980s. Free 3/4hp grinder = “you ****,” even if it’s from a relative. You **** to have such a great dad and grandfather, anyway.

Yes, it's bendable - meant to be formed to a shape to add weight.

I spent about 20 minutes tweaking it to get it "straight". Now I don't want to touch it....

Craig- sweet deal on the BP cart!

Don- cool haul. That Dunlap is a nice addition to your collection.

R- I would be thrilled to find an Artisan ratchet in a pawn shop.

3jakes- nice finds, especially a complete Saltus set and SK on top of it.

Update: Some of you may recall the haul I had a few weeks ago that included some tools and three old manila folders stuffed with Army mechanics school documents from 1943. Post #474 on page 24. I said I would start a thread to show more of the contents of the folders. I did, linked here.

Lots of good haul by everyone!

Been looking for a cool trash can and this lube setup was on craigslist. I waited awhile and finally offered him $40 for it since he was asking $60 on the ad. He took the offer!

It still has 4-5 gallons of gear oil in the can that I have no interest in using. Hopefully someone with an old tractor will want to use it!

Still got some cleaning to do but it rolls well and the pump does work! But I'm only planning to use it as a trash can, so what to do with the pump?

Here's a pic of the tools I picked up at an estate sale on Thursday morning. Mitutoyo 0-1" Mic, SK 1/2dr Ratchet with two 7/16 6pt sockets, old-school Crafsman 1/4dr Ratchet. A really nice like new Craftsman Kromedge tap & die set. The no-name 3/8dr Flex Head Ratchet has some minor rust pitting :) ... but it works smooth and clicks into position so I couldn't bring myself to just leave it behind.

Been sorting my haul from post #680. Think I’ll flip the stuff I don’t want for 40 or so, meaning I got 30 in it. Hopefully.

Noteworthy stuff.

Not sure where the Forch socket set is made, feels nice though.

IMG_1106.jpg
Some Belzer wrenches.

IMG_1107.jpg

Brand new Ko-Ken attack driver.

Didn’t expect to find a Proto 5252A. Looks unused.
