It's been a while since I'd been to my friendly local recycling yard. Glad I stopped by today.
They had this Morgan vise sitting there just waiting for me.
$30 bucks later and I was on my way.

They are probably around the same vintage as these sets. They have that style of sockets. I’m not sure of their exact vintage.Spent a lot more than usual today but came away with some good stuff.
Then on my way out of the garage I saw the Stevens Walden TV32 set and remembered that Provincial had schooled me on STW last week. The boss smiled and said he was being nice as he put a $15 sticker on it. I haven't been able to find a catalog with this set in it and it appears to be a conglomeration of 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 tools. Sadly, no ratchets. I think it must be a fairly late production since AA doesn't mention the socket style at all. Probably from the 70s or maybe 80s. Any help would be welcomed.
The tools at this estate sale belonged to a mechanical engineer with quite the car collection. I overheard his sister-in-law mention a Shelby Cobra and ’67 Cougar. Unfortunately, the cars were not on site but the garage was packed with high quality tools. The line wrapped around the block an hour before the doors opened. I managed to grab a Craftsman tool box marked “Plumbing” for $40. Here is what was inside:
- Ridgid 10” pipe wrench
- Diamalloy 10” pliers
- Diamalloy 8” pliers
- Knipex Cobra 7” pliers
- Knipex Cobra 10” pliers
- Craftsman pipe wrench pliers USA
- Japan needle nose pliers
- Craftsman bit driver with bits in handle
- Archer nut driver set in case
I believe the Archer nut driver set was sold by Radio Shack.

What were all those plugs in the hex box removed from?Spent a lot more than usual today but came away with some good stuff.
I finally found a Wilton vise from the Chicago era. It's a Cadet 9140 with 4" jaws. I haven't taken it apart yet but it looks to be in very good shape. The jaws are a little worn but not bad for a 64 year old. I'll post more photos on the vise thread tomorrow.
I picked up the CM Crown torque wrench because it was still in the box. and the Indestro Super 888 ignition set looks practically unused. This makes my third Holo-Krome box--unfortunately, when I got it home only one of the twenty hex keys was HK.
It was the first day of the sale and they hadn't price-marked many of the garage items besides the Wilton--$176. I had already balked at the vise and a couple of other things but I kept bringing items up and asking the prices. When I brought the torque wrench, ignition set and hex box up the boss quickly used his price gun to mark them $16, $4 & $12. Negotiations ensued and I wound up with all four items for initial asking price of the Wilton--$176.

Thanks!Almost certainly made for them by Xcelite

Mrs No_Garage picked up 2 smalls and I found a Craftsman pre-block grinder in 1/4 HP for $25. The bearings are smooth and the ONLY weird thing is that I see NO EVIDENCE that it was ever equipped with a power switch! It was manufactured in June 1964 - so it's older than me.
Has anyone seen a grinder without a switch?
Cheers
Jim
Clemson, I've never heard of an Amazon return store, but are you saying that you got that Milwaukee impact for $5?????
Outlaw, I thought it was my imagination. The newer Pyrex measuring cups drool everywhere!

My wife made me take the family Pokémon hunting and while driving through an older neighborhood, I spotted 2 tool boxes set out for bulk trash pickup. Here's what I found.

I've been here since the inaugural thread in 2012 and I think that Pokemon hunting might be a first for a backstory! jeffmoss or Outlaw can confirm. My wife made me take the family Pokémon hunting and while driving through an older neighborhood, I spotted 2 tool boxes set out for bulk trash pickup.
Is that box on the left with the external cantilevers marked Snap-on!? If so, I am getting the ****-O-Meter ready. These boxes were made by Duplex in Sherman, NY from 1932 to 1957. Snap-on branded them HandiKits, and they came in three sizes: Junior, Senior, and Master. I have a Junior and I've been hoping to run into a Master for years. I may have to take up Pokemon hunting!
....
However... the vise seller asked me if I was interested in some vintage tools. Well, yes !! He had a brace and some bits and a gun type hand drill, which I bought as it was cool. Got it home and I see it is made by The Ruger Corp.
Well, a little searching turns out is was the same Ruger company of firearms fame. So I got over losing the Gestner.
You never know how the day will turn out! (Needless to say, the wife was impressed!)

Not a necessarily a garage sale, but I hit up the local Amazon return store after seeing them advertise an M18 Impact Wrench on Facebook. All items $5 each. Had to wait in line for a while, but I would say for $5 it was worth it. Also picked up a few other random things.

Yes, I got the Milwaukee impact for $5. There is a store called Bin-Time near me that sales returns from mostly Amazon. They re-stock on Saturday and Sunday when everything is $5. Then $2 on Monday and $1 on Tuesday for anything that's left. Everything is thrown into big OSB bins. Today was my first day and it was quite the experience for sure! Thankfully most people were going after electronics so I was able to quickly scan the place for the red box!![]()
Wow. I bet there are a lot of jealous members reading your post. Does it work? Major suckage pending.![]()
I had no idea if it would work or not! I haven't put it to much of a test, but seems to work as it should!I put a battery on it as soon as I got home to test it outI had no idea if it would work or not! I haven't put it to much of a test, but seems to work as it should!
