The blast gate project looks pretty interesting, Logan. Love all the stuff you have cookin'

Let us know how you like the Bambu A1 when you've had some time with it. If my E3S1 ever goes off the rails that's probably where I'll head next.

Costco has a knock-off Skechers version for like $30ish if you watch for them. My wife always gets me one of each color when they have them in stock so they last me all year. They are actually super comfortable.

+1 for these, the big Farm & Home in St Joe, MO carries them. Very comfortable, but I wouldn't recommend them for walking miles!

The list of stuff I have in the 10 to 50% done phase is honestly getting to me. For anyone who has been following along for more than probably 2 weeks has picked up I normally have several projects going and generally don't get excited about that last 5 or 10% after it's functional...but the list right now is starting to bother me....mostly cause I have **** everywhere and no clean place to work. The garage door replacement isn't helping this....so I took this afternoon off work and rolled a trash can and a recycling can into the garage and worked on cleaning/organizing/disposing this afternoon.

trash can.jpg

Filled up both can, dropped a few things off at donation and have one big Hardig plastic hardcase footlocker to post for sale now so a successful afternoon.

Speaking of several projects....I had a collection of Fine Woodworking and there was a local person looking to rehome an inherited set of issues 1 thru 130 or so which was a great addition to my current set which started at 70....so I rearranged some things on the shelf....now I have lots of casual browsing literature!

magazines.jpg

Now to rehome again the duplicates.

I've always avoided the center section of Costco and just hit the food along the outskirts....might have to check it out...thanks guys!

There are shoes other than cowboy boots???

Martin

LOL

I've got a pair or two of Merrill Jungle Moc's, the safety sandals...and boots. With the move to full remote and company dress code for office going to "Dress for your day" instead of the typical biz casual, the primary boots when wearing jeans are a pair of basic black Ariats...the favorite pair though are these caiman's

caiman croc.jpg

They've worn substantially and now have several holes from bending across the vamp (top of the foot) but still my favorite pair till I find a new one.

Helped a cousin who works nights as a cop finish an attic ladder install. With night shift his availability is sporadic but worked out to finish it this morning before the attic tranformed to sauna

20240730_102401.jpg

The back to my project list... Decided today would work on the airline project

20240730_183037.jpg

That's the drop on the far side where the wife's ride normally parks. No immediate plans for what hooks up there...but it's easy to figure that out later.... Even if it's just a 15' Hose and a tire chuck

Then started on the big ceiling mounted hose reel

20240730_183049.jpg

Almost got it done before wife got home.
Pro tip.... Don't be like me and forget to order your hose whips with a swivel end...oops

Cut the short piece for the drop down to the wall manifold, tighten up the tee fitting and screw the manifold on and should be ready to load a hose onto it once I buy a pair of hose clamps for it....then at least 1 more reel to mount. I have 2 more smaller reels...Figure out if I can find a home for that last one after the system is running

Not sure I had enough tools out...

20240730_203331.jpg

But got it hooked up

20240730_204233.jpg

Will need to bust out a pipe wrench or two in order to rotate that 90, but it's been on there for years and didn't want to screw with it tonight.

Pulled down the smaller Cox reel to pull the hose clamps and cable guard off to prep the new hose for it

20240730_210416.jpg

And that's about where activity ended today

Let's see here....whirlwind of a last couple days....only they weren't whirling...more straight line.....

But hit this milestone in the truck

truck1.jpg

This started to roll in:

weather1.jpg

Brought straight line winds with peak gust at 92 mph I believe and hit a wide part of Southeast and east central Nebraska from Lincoln, to Omaha and on into Central Iowa along I-80

Fortunately no house damage that we've found so far...but lost a lot of trees in the neighborhood and across the entire metro area. At peak it was around 220k accounts without electricity and it'll rank as the largest storm outage for the power company that covers Omaha and surrounding areas

tree 1.jpg

tree 2.jpg

tree3.jpg

That last image of the blue spruce is ours....it was encroaching on another tree and sidewalk and we knew it was probably going to have to come out in the next year or two anyway....still debating pulling it back and staking it with a couple of screw in ground anchors as it was a nice tree to light for Christmas...but it's probably getting the saw

Speaking of saw....this Makita 36v with 12" bar has been a champ. I didn't have any spare chains which was a fault of mine...it's a bit of an odd pitch it looks like but 2 new chains will be here on Friday. I've got a 16" Husqvarna gas one on a shelf that needs put back together but it hasn't been used in 6 years so it'll need a little TLC. I've been putting off getting it back together because "I don't need it"...well until ya do!

tree 4.jpg

In a bit of good news the storm blew thru our area around 6pm or so and was just light drizzle by 6:15 or 6:30 so had plenty of light still last night to help get the more significant limbs/trees of the neighbors handled and at least off driveways/houses/sidewalks etc. Line at the city's tree dump pile was reportedly 2 hours long this afternoon....so that'll be fun

In other news...wife's efforts the last several years building a book of business have started to convert to commissions as projects complete and bills get paid (she's an interior designer). I do most of the cooking/dishes but the dishwasher racks were rusting and although I was fine with it it was a consistent source of irritation for her. I didn't like spending 550 bucks on new racks for an 8 year old dishwasher so this got picked up yesterday as a bit of a congrats/hooray/great work.....I didn't put a bow on it as that seemed like I might be inviting trouble

dish1.jpg

Bosch 800 Series, the appliance dealer she uses for work actually had it in stock so it was a quick drive over to the warehouse to grab it then tuck it away into the garage where she wouldn't see it till I had time to install it

And then installed:

dish2.jpg

And she knows absolutely nothing about it :)

So far has been home 2.5 hours, walked past it 8 times and hasn't noticed it yet. Impressively the 5 yr old picked it up the 2nd time she walked by. In wife's defense...the old one was a stainless as well, but had a towel bar handle instead of this recessed pocket....so it's not a dramatic change. But debating if I try and encourage her into the kitchen for something or just play it out and see how it goes

They are SUPER quiet, good choice!

First load this morning....you aren't joking! Will be a bit of an adjustment as old one had a large silverware basket and this one is setup for silverware in the top rack which I think I like better, but without the status LED on the front I'd have no idea it's running.

Logan, I made the mistake of gifting Liane a microwave oven back around 1970. I learned things with power cords are not gifts (to her).

I've done that once too....I've since learned that "tailed" items like that can be good gifts on non-gift giving events. So surprises like this generally go over well....just not on birthday/Christmas/Anniversary etc....

Speaking of which....10 yr mark is next year....gonna need to figure that out

That's why you buy her a Romba or Roborock for a gift! No cord for her to choke you with!!

Logan, I'm in the let it go until she notices it on her own, camp.

She's off for work and it's still hiding in plain sight!

Had to hit three stores to find a new bar and chain for the Husqvarna, but it made fast work of the Blue Spruce

20240803_172909.jpg

Now to wait for it to cool off to load up. Left a couple feet on the trunk to hopefully make it easier to pull the root ball out... See how that works

Now that it's back running....spare chains and bars for both, a sharpening kit, splitting wedge and premixed canned fuel is going in a tote on a shelf so next time I have all of what I need. Given the saw was probably bought in 2010 or so new filters are probably in order as well

Leave it open like all the a-holes, myself included, that leave there trailer hitch in so she bangs her shins on it. See if a few choice four letter words gives her a better look 🤣
Leave the hitch in your 450 and you're probably putting something more "sensitive" then shins at risk!

It took 2 days, and to be fair she wasn't home much Friday to discover the dishwasher. She is happy with a new one without rusty racks though we might have gotten "irritated" with each other for a minute lol. Now to learn how to load it.... And to pull it back out to get the drip tray and new receptacle in now that I'm not at risk of ruining a surprise

Our Maytag is quite, but maybe I’m not a good judge of quite?

Either way, other then the jammed pump once, I don’t have much complaints about the Maytag and the youngest does the dishes so she’s constantly using the dishwasher instead of hand washing.

Dishwasher is on my list..... ours is loud!!!! And doesn't always clean very well.

Quiet is one of my big wants
Look hard at the Bosch 500 and 800 then. I was going to go with the 500 as I didn't expect the "Crystal Dry" that seemed to be the big upgrade on the 800 was worth it....then I looked for online reviews and couldn't find anyone who said the regretted the 800 and that if the 800 was obtainable to go for it...so I did. It's not cheap, even with wife's "industry" discount it wasn't much less then MSRP which depending on which model ranges from $1299 to $1399 I think, but it runs every day...sometimes 2x a day....so I'm ok paying that if it lives up to it's reputation which so far....I think 5 loads in it has

It's definitely quiet....the main level is an open plan with kitchen/dining/living room/kids play room(technically formal dining room) and if anything at all is going on you can't hear it. If I'm at the sink and the only one home with a quiet house you can hear it if paying attention...but that's it. The LED indicator light on the front is definitely required to be able to know if it's running or not. I thought the LG we had before was quiet....but I could hear it (if listening closely) from the couch 12' away or so....don't think I can with this one. If either kid is awake on the main level, forget about hearing the dishwasher!

the youngest does the dishes so she’s constantly using the dishwasher instead of hand washing.

I'm looking forward to a couple more years where the now almost 6 yr old can more easily reach things and this could become her task to do

Thanks! Our kitchen and living room is one large space with hardwood floors. I'll keep that model in mind, I'd looked in the past and that is about where I was shopping price wise.

New roof timing was good, noticed yesterday the 90-ish mph winds we got last week did pop a shingle off on the side of the house I don't normally see

roof1.jpg

They were placing tarps and ladders by 6 this morning....some interesting conversations with the 3 yr old on "What that noise" and "they fix broken house?"

roof2.jpg

And yes, those are the latest model safety harnesses where the tether is wireless/Bluetooth....the one rope is for show, it's not actually attached to anything

See that skylight on that roof in the last picture....it's in a bathroom.....Pro Tip: Try not to use the bathroom with the skylight when roofers are redoing your roof....

Fortunately they weren't working on that part of the roof when I "autopiloted" my way to the bathroom.....sure they've seen worse....hopefully for them they've seen much better

And they'll be back tomorrow... It's dark thirty and they've been on site for 15 hours... Don't tell OSHA. In addition to being out of daylight, also out of ridgecap and have at least 30' more that needs installed. I need to head to get more Gatorade, water and ice so ready to go in the morning. Without the ridgecap shortage they probably needed at least 3 more guys to have finished today. Having to hump about 140 bundles of shingles up onto the roof the hard way didn't help either.

You know how to turn a dishwasher into a snowblower?

Martin
The sexist answer would be "give her a coat, gloves and shovel"..... In my house its normally me doing both.....so change the pronoun

If I get a bit more height on the almost 6 yr old, I think she could run the blower under a watchful eye. She likes the snow, just would need to get her goggles for the wind. If that happens then I need to have a job for little brother...so this is one of those times that gets me in trouble cause it's easier to do it myself lol

Due to design/style changes over the years I had to wear a gray suit to my wedding so the dishwasher (me) would match the stove. I didn't want to go full MC Hammer in a silver track suit so gray was as close as we could get the set here 😂

Moving shingles up the ladder was a no-no for me, that's why I built my material lift!

I was not expecting them to move them the hard way! Ladder style material lift....hydraulic trailer with elevating box so they could at least get them up easier.....something. We've got a neighbor who sells commercial insurance, general liability and workers comp policies to construction companies and has several roofing companies as clients...next time we're talking work I'll have to ask if they review how they handle shingles prior to setting rates.

Yeah, my wife hates that joke. You are a lot nicer than me though, I just say hand her a shovel!

The irony is I do the majority of the dishwashing at our house.

Martin

Ironically I bought an easy to operate snowblower....no gears, electric start if plugged in, big enough to do the job but not a huge beast so that the wife would be more comfortable using it....yeah that's never happened. Pretty sure if it snowed enough and she needed to clear the driveway and I wasn't around it would wait till a neighbor kid did it and cost 40 buck. At least we're on the "north-ish" side of the street so afternoon sun does a good job of clearing the driveway even if it gets driven on

Roofers got the roof done this afternoon....were probably on site for 1.5 hours with a 5 person crew to finish the missing hip/ridge cap and clean up. Haven't seen the final bill but that'll come in due time. At least insurance paid quickly so no issues there

Also got the Prusa 3d printer moved onto it's next home this afternoon, so that's progress on decluttering "a bit"....just means I can open this box and get it setup!

newbambu.jpg

Plan is this becomes my primary PLA printing machine as it won't care about the open print area and open AMS as the filament isn't very hydroscopic
