Let's see here....whirlwind of a last couple days....only they weren't whirling...more straight line.....
But hit this milestone in the truck
This started to roll in:
Brought straight line winds with peak gust at 92 mph I believe and hit a wide part of Southeast and east central Nebraska from Lincoln, to Omaha and on into Central Iowa along I-80
Fortunately no house damage that we've found so far...but lost a lot of trees in the neighborhood and across the entire metro area. At peak it was around 220k accounts without electricity and it'll rank as the largest storm outage for the power company that covers Omaha and surrounding areas
That last image of the blue spruce is ours....it was encroaching on another tree and sidewalk and we knew it was probably going to have to come out in the next year or two anyway....still debating pulling it back and staking it with a couple of screw in ground anchors as it was a nice tree to light for Christmas...but it's probably getting the saw
Speaking of saw....this Makita 36v with 12" bar has been a champ. I didn't have any spare chains which was a fault of mine...it's a bit of an odd pitch it looks like but 2 new chains will be here on Friday. I've got a 16" Husqvarna gas one on a shelf that needs put back together but it hasn't been used in 6 years so it'll need a little TLC. I've been putting off getting it back together because "I don't need it"...well until ya do!
In a bit of good news the storm blew thru our area around 6pm or so and was just light drizzle by 6:15 or 6:30 so had plenty of light still last night to help get the more significant limbs/trees of the neighbors handled and at least off driveways/houses/sidewalks etc. Line at the city's tree dump pile was reportedly 2 hours long this afternoon....so that'll be fun
In other news...wife's efforts the last several years building a book of business have started to convert to commissions as projects complete and bills get paid (she's an interior designer). I do most of the cooking/dishes but the dishwasher racks were rusting and although I was fine with it it was a consistent source of irritation for her. I didn't like spending 550 bucks on new racks for an 8 year old dishwasher so this got picked up yesterday as a bit of a congrats/hooray/great work.....I didn't put a bow on it as that seemed like I might be inviting trouble
Bosch 800 Series, the appliance dealer she uses for work actually had it in stock so it was a quick drive over to the warehouse to grab it then tuck it away into the garage where she wouldn't see it till I had time to install it
And then installed:
And she knows absolutely nothing about it
So far has been home 2.5 hours, walked past it 8 times and hasn't noticed it yet. Impressively the 5 yr old picked it up the 2nd time she walked by. In wife's defense...the old one was a stainless as well, but had a towel bar handle instead of this recessed pocket....so it's not a dramatic change. But debating if I try and encourage her into the kitchen for something or just play it out and see how it goes
