So the question is who is tired the most ? Screw gun or 1/2Cup ? :bounce:
I guess with this weather you will be glad when you have it finished.

I have to fess up, I think the screw gun will outlast me.

The ridge cap is all finished, a solid 4 hours this morning saw the last of the roof done and dusted. Pics later in the day.

Its getting pretty warm here, I am a lather of sweat and my legs are killing me. Its not easy working on a 30 degree pitched roof.

To top things off I have been putting up with tennis elbow for the last month, the pain comes and goes and boy can it bite. This has not made things any easier I can tell you. I went to the doctors last night and I have to have a steroid injection next week.

Cheers

Woke earlier, as Nicola and her daughter are off to Paris on the Eurostar in an hour, and I am on taxi duty to drop them at Ebbsfleet station. This does mean a bit of focused garage time later.

This build looks great.

I would be happy to have you build me a structure.

Rian, I can envisage some Q.S.T. ( Quality Shed Time..) for you this week.;)

Visiting your neck of the woods is on the bucket list and you need a carport, mmmmm I wonder how I can pull this off..:headscrat

Electrical or structure I have to say you could not go wrong as the Xmas tree controller 1/2 made up for me is testament to that. ;)

Thanks HOTFR8, I must do a thread on the build of the controller at some point.

Thanks again and your feedback is much appreciated gentlemen, have a good one.

I must add my commendations to the previously expressed ones. The carport is a work of art in itself. I know it must have been difficult in the hot weather, and with your "tennis elbow" it got to you in the evenings. You have done a great job, and I am very impressed with the work. The overall appearance is in perfect concert with your beautiful home!!

ps: Hold out till the last, take steriods (cortizone) injections, do about all you can before the doctor says "surgery". My wife will gladly attest to it, it will heal it, but the time spent is LONG in recovery.

Great job again!! VERY professional!!

Best Regards
Herb

Screwing up, overhead while standing on a ladder.

I'd be thinking about hiring some help for that task.

Tennis elbow yikes, I feel for you man! I had that, although I referred to it as hammer elbow, back when I was building the house and barns. I got a Steroid injection one time, the nurse hit the bone in my elbow and I passed out on the table. Not meaning to scare you or anything:shocking::D
have you tried the elastic elbow wraps, that seemed to work some for me. It eventually went away and I am using a nail gun on my new build.
Wish I were there to help you put up that corrugated metal ceiling, I love that stuff and you will surely need an extra set of hands.do you have a sheet rock lift?

1/2: sorry to hear you have Tennis elbow. i had tennis (golfer's elbow) so bad in the late 80's that i had to take handfuls of Advil just to play a round of golf. then i heard one of our best football players lost his kidney's function because he was taking to many Advil so i stopped and dealt with the pain. then proceeded to have 5 kids and played a lot less golf.

when i did play golf elbows still hurt so still took a few Advil until i found the gyro. i actually found the gyro because i sprained my wrists and one of my golf students handed me his. I decided to use it an hour a day for 90 days while i was doing another P90x workout for that period. it killed me to use it for a couple minutes, but i worked through the pain and now i not only have one of the strongest grips around my tennis elbow rarely shows up.

www.dynaflexpro.com is where i get my US made gyros and i hope someplace local to you has even one made in China for you to try. another thing that helped my elbows was to get a Ryobi 18v impact drill instead of using a ratchet or wrench which usually caused a problem. there is also a more expensive metal version made in the US and Germany that is quieter that i use next to my wife while she's watching TV.

that's my 2 cents and hope it helps.

cheers Mate and BTW the carport looks awesome.

Thanks guys the pain seems to come and go, yesterday it was fine then this morning I struggled to lift the kettle.

The doctor gave me some exercise routines that have helped along with a wrap the pain is a little more manageable, I am not one to over do the pain killers.

I am booked in for an ultra sound next week, then I have to book the steroid injection following that. You are given a local anesthetic first then the steroids are injected using a scanner to pin point the spot, hopefully it will not be to painful, I don't do pain..

Drives, I will see if I can get one of the gyros, thanks for the tip.

BF My son is giving me a hand with the ceiling, I don't have a lift but they are not that heavy, more awkward than any thing else. I am not excepting the sheets to be delivered until next week.
You are welcome out here any time..

Thanks again, I will keep you posted.

***** to hear about your injury. I actually had something similar when I was buttoning up my shed, I developed intense forearm pain from all the tek-screwing. One night it was so bad I couldn't sleep and it nearly made me vomit in the middle of the night, had to see an osteo to sort it out. Doesn't help that I work in an office Mon-Fri and then hit the tools Sat-Sun, a bit of a shock to the body. Hope you feel better soon :)

1/2: i had a shot the summer when i was competing in golf's version of the home run derby where all we do is hit 400 yard drives. i didn't take an Advil all that summer, but the pain came back about 3 months after the shot (my first one). the Dr. said i could have a couple more 3 or 4 months apart, but i'm like you and listening to my body i tried to fix it instead of masking the problem.

good luck with that because i know your pain big guy. Hotfr8's snake oil (Emu) medicine might be something to try too. hell i would have drank battery acid some days that the pain was so bad if i thought it would help. no elbow pain today and i just moved 3000 pounds of steel, but i did drop a 3/4 inch small steel 200 pound plate on the end of my fingers that's still throbbing a bit.

cheers

To be honest Anth, I think the tek gun may have played some part in the injury and thanks, I can appreciate your pain.

I have heard some good things about Emu Oil HOTFR8, heaps swear buy it.

Consider it on the shopping list and I will let you know how it goes.

Drives 200 lbs of plate would bring tears to your eyes, hurt, pain and agony.

I have tried some Chinese herbal rubs which are not to bad as well, I think a combination of the right exercise, warm ups, the steroid injection, rubs and looking after myself a little better should go a long way to recovery.

No pain killers today, which has been a plus but it was painful this morning.

Tennis Elbow aside, this was my work place for the day @ 1500 ft on a fire track above lake Eildon. Sorry about the crappy pic as you can't quite see the lake which holds more water than Sydney Harbour.

A link that highlights the pure beauty of the area.

We are in the planning stages of an $7 m infrastructure up grade as a managing contractor for a number of vested stakeholders that will include 4 relift pump stations, communications network, potable water infrastructure through National Parks to Jerusalem Creek Marina through this pristine past of the Australian bush which is a two hour drive from Shepparton.

Not a lot that you would consider as photo worthy this weekend but kept chipping away at things:

The Carport.

. Finished the 2 x 2 x 1/8 gal angle coving / cornice for the ceiling.
. The gal corrugated sheet for the ceiling should be here this week.
. I pick up all the suspended ceiling supports and furring channels tomorrow.
. Recessed lights on order.

We have a long weekend here next week so I am hoping make some real inroads with the build and I can see light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

This will leave just the civil works to be finished in readiness for the Storage Solution Mrs 1/2 Cup still can't picture how its going to look and is also investigating other options.:dunno:

Picked up a new 5" Makita angle grinder that was on special at one of our big box stores. No more changing discs every five minutes.

Have a good one guys..

Been a while since I have been here. The carport looks great.
I too have some issues with my left elbow just like tennis elbow, to where it hurts to twist and pull doors. Our medic at work (aka witch doctor) did some injections with sugar water down to the bone of the area that was sore. He said it breaks down the old tissue and helps to regenerate new stronger tissue. That was about three years ago and I just had him do some more in a new area of the same elbow.

Thanks for dropping by.

The tennis elbow is a killer, a scan on Thursday to determine where I need the injection.

I am learning how to manage things better with minimal pain killers, exercise , wraps and a host of lotions and potions with mixed results.

Elmore oil.
Emu oil.
Goanna oil.
Tiger balm.

I haven't tried snake oil yet:lol: but some are working well.

The pain is bearable at this point but bites at times.

A dam safety inspection got me out of the office today at Goulburn Weir, built in the 1890's. The inspection entailed a detailed investigation of all aspects of the electrical, control, scada and mechanical systems to ensure every thing is as it should be.

Put it this way if it fails, 30 miles down stream, the Shed Downunder literally goes under.

View media item 48717

9 radial gates and what you see is about a 5000 ml per day environmental flow down the Goulburn river.

Have a great day..

Good news about your carport being nearly finished, not good news about your elbow.
On a similar note though I had a similar problem last year after about 4 hours of feeding tree branches into a wood chipper, during the next couple of days it got so bad I couldnt lift any weight or raise my right arm higher than my shoulder.
About 8 years ago suffering from a herniated disc and getting no results from physios and chiropractors it was suggested by a family member that I try some "Bowen Therapy",
the drugs for the pain were not required after 2 visits and once the rest of my lower back was aligned I have been OK since. I still have to be careful with lifting and twisting but the end result has been amazing.

Bowen therapy works because they can tell the body to fix itself, treating the cause of the problem not the symptoms.

Originally discovered by a Tom Bowen who lived in Geelong (Victoria) during the 1980's and now being taught around the world.
Here is a link and more information about Bowen therapy, and they do have someone in Shepparton.

Gazza: interesting idea on the sugar shot. i truly believe the body is amazing and just needs a kick start without drugs masking the pain so i'd probably try that method if i still had elbow pain. that's why i searched out and found a gyro that helped fix mine.

1/2: i still get a twinge every now and then in my tennis (golfer's) elbows especially after wrenching and ratcheting is worse and forgetting to use my little Ryobi 18v impact. i still have a drawer full of elbow wraps and gadgets and the ones that worked the best were the ones that were sort of like a turn a cut with a air bag on them so you could wrap tight and have a little give still. i'd ship the box to you if you told me how to ship them to Australia. are there any shipping companies that ship to the US that you use or know of?

now i have to say i do like your day job. looking at dams and forests is almost a vacation for me. i bet you have to look for not only the parts that are failing, but the for the even more difficult bits and pieces that might fail and cause a huge problem. that dam is sure a good looking one compared to the cement walls we look at and just hope the joints are not the week point. are they just asthetic over a cement and rebar structure?

cheers

Thanks for dropping by Gazza, my Dad and Brothers actually go to the Bowen Therapist that you mentioned and have had some great results so far. I should book an appointment myself , I have the scan this morning.
I know I have tended over the years to over stretch the mark when it come to lifting, bending and twisting as I would guess most of us would do at some point and you really have to be ever so careful as you can do a lot of damage and be in a lot of pain in the blink of an eye.

Thanks for the offer drives, Mrs 1/2 Cup aka Doctor Mrs 1/2 Cup has already brought me a couple of different elbow wraps and supports which have helped enormously.

We are pretty fussy when it comes to our Dam Safety and regular inspections are just part of the mix, covering all the Operational, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Structural aspects of the water storage.

This particular weir is not overly large and has a heritage listing. In the mid 80s the radial gates were installed and more recently we have just upgraded all the electrics and control systems with all the whistles and bells, including a fibre optic comms network and SCADA system upgrade.

1/2: I'm not 100% or even 50% sure what you said in the last paragraph, but I'm guessing the guys below the dam are in good hands with you at the controls.

also happy to hear your bride has your elbow straps for you to use until you get better. do your best not to do much hand wrenching or ratcheting and it might help some and sounds like the Dr. your family and Gazza use has an idea how to fix you too. good luck
