Air, fuel, and ignition. Usually ignition, right?

Battery ? C'mon you have to tell us what was wrong.

Gentlemen to be honest I don't know at this point, but you hit the key and there is nothing so I am suspecting it is electrical and I haven't even run a multimeter over things as yet.:headscrat

It is a relatively new battery but I have put it on the charger for over night and will tackle it tomorrow as I am a little buggered from the Chemo this afternoon.

I am suspecting it will be a simple fix ( I say that tongue in cheek )

I will keep you updated..

Should you want some light reading over the next few days can I recommend that you check out the MG F wiring diagrams an then you will understand..

MGF Elektrik

Have a good one...

UPDATE a quick look over this evening with Andrew found an incorrectly installed after market distributor drive ( at least 6mm to long ) which had chewed out the cap contacts due to the incorrectly positioned rotor button..:eyecrazy:

Always good to see you posting up mate.

However, Chemo.....

That is bad sh!t being that is literally is poison that is pumped into you.

As always, I wish you a good recovery from its effects and also as little as possible disturbance in your equilibrium

Look after yourself

I agree Chemo is nasty stuff but you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.:willy_nil

I am pretty much over the worst of it now and have been fortunate not to have had the nausea, vomiting or mouth sores with the treatment but coped every thing else. Anyway I am over the rough of things now and it has done and still doing its job..

Looking forward to getting back to the "New Normal "

I am getting great support from everyone and well looked after thanks to Mrs 1/2 Cup, my familly, work, friends, neighbours, GJ members and my Oncology Support team

Sing out if you need some extra barrel rings 1/2 cup. I have some from a half wine barrel that has rotted through with the bay leaf tree in it that I need to tidy up and replant. Barrel looks similar to yours.

Hope you start to feel better soon, ***** to see you knocked around.

After dads chemo he arrived home to Juliet, the sister car to the one and only MGF dad mastered. She needs a little tlc from the Mgf whisperer, after a few suspicions were looked at we have a shopping list which I’ll arrange.
After that I’ll have the master take care of a few other electrical issues, being road registered we shall have plenty of road testing then a trip to Winton raceway to play with both cars on the track.

1/2: i know you'd rather have Andrew drive over another classic MG for you to give a test drive for a few hours, but since you are the MGF MAN i guess you get a few problems to solve too.

i didn't open the LITE READING of electrical diagrams of the MGF and hoping in your condition you didn't blow a fuse yourself reading them so best of luck.

good to see or I guess hear that you are still gaining a little of your lost weight back and really good to hear that your Cheemo treatments are at an end with a good progress report.

cheers and have a great day!!

also thanks for letting me know the method you lay the bricks so nicely.

The term black duck does have a certain connotation to it - to me any way

NOUN
an idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning:
"the word ‘discipline’ has unhappy connotations of punishment and repression" · [more]
synonyms: overtone · undertone · undercurrent · implication · hidden meaning · secondary meaning · nuance · flavour · feeling · aura · atmosphere · colouring · smack · hint · vein · echo · [more]
philosophy
the abstract meaning or intension of a term, which forms a principle determining which objects or concepts it applies to. Often contrasted with denotation.
synonyms: meaning · understanding · construal · connotation · reading · explanation · inference · conclusion · supposition

After reading the above I wonder:willy_nil
Steve, I think this link has a good explanation of where "Not this little black duck!" came from:

http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-duc1.htm

I think this describes you well:

"It is used as an indication that the speaker is not so stupid as he is being taken to be, or that he or she is too wise to the ways of the world to be taken in by something or to agree to doing something that is against his or her best interests."

GB, thank you for your offer.

My rings are ok to reuse they are the gal ones my only issue is the shrunken timber really..

I would like to get back to my old self, hopefully now that the Chemo has finished we can start that journey..

drives, I sure have a few issues to sort out with Juliet but I will take my time to get it mobile again and the beauty is that this race car is road registered..:3gears:

The wiring diagrams take a little to get your mind around as they are in a jigsaw format and you have to join the pages together to make sense of it all..:willy_nil

I am feeling a little wacked out this morning following yesterdays Chemo so I am taking things a little easy today..
My weight gain has been really consistent so the Specialist is pleased on that count..

The more bricks you lay the better they go down as you get an eye for what looks right... Let us know when you are going to do some of yours..

Glad you're feeling reasonably alright, all things considered! The F isn't too bad wiring wise - Jenna's BMW is far worse. But either are a lot more complicated than my Midget (or I presume your old minis), its entire loom consists of about a dozen wires and just 2 fuses!

I assume it's not even turning over from your description, but if it is then the fuel pump inertia switch is a reasonably common (and easily solved) culprit.

Thank you Andrew..

Your right once you get your head around the circuitry in the F its not too bad. The thing I detest is a hacked up loom and additions some of the that you see are real shocker.
The Midget and the Minis are very similar and simple in terms of colour coding and equipment to some extent..

I regard to the F :

. The battery was as flat as in the first instance so I have put that on the CTEK over night and it has come back well.
. A loose termination on the master kill switch.
. The flash plate that sits between the distributor cap and the camshaft seal retainer plate is missing or has never been installed, thus forcing the rotor button hard into the centre contact.
. Andrew has ordered all the parts and a new cam shaft seal.
. I will check the inertia switch, I never gave that a thought..

I will get through what we have found so far and see how we go...

Thanks again, have a good one..

Gerard, thank you:thumbup:
I am just doing what I can in my own time and that's for sure I am taking it easy..

1/2 Cup,
Glad you're thru the Chemo, and you are putting on weight!
One day at a time.......

Jon, thank you.
One day at a time is it at the moment, the effects of the Chemo can last for months unfortunately but we will weather the storm...

More pics required of your tinkering

Andrew, will do..

Continue at YOUR pace grasshopper! Only you will know how far you can go!
My thoughts go out to you. Does the food taste any better? A gauge i use to work out if I’m getting better.

Terrick thank you.
My pace it is let me tell you.
This cycle of chemo has been a particularly tough one and I am a little more fatigued than usual so I just have to roll with the punches some what. The other side effect I have been noticing over the past few weeks has been muscle soreness as they recover their tone..
I totally agree that you can use your taste buds as a barometer to your well being ( with having Chemo at least ). There is still quite a few foods that are a bit rough and It has been a matter of taste testing most things and finding foods that not only taste good but have reasonable nutritional value as well. This is hard to articulate/describe to some one that has not experienced it as it is pretty unique:eyecrazy:

Thank you one and all, enjoy your day..:thumbup:

1/2 cup I have been down the same road and I know what you are going thru. Happy to see you are getting along with your chemo. After my last chemo I still could not function for over a month. It is no fun but hang in there. continue improving one day at a time.

Steve, I figure the fact that you're posting here and engaging in your usual plethora of projects is a good thing. I'm sending good vibes and warm fuzzies from the frozen North :)

My brother went through chemo in his early twenties and I remember it like it was yesterday. Get lots of rest..and watch for blood clots post chemo!

1/2: since you sound tired is it from the CHEEMO or actually getting all the projects done that you have been doing at almost your old pace?

or do you need another blood transfusion cause i don't think you mentioned what your #'s were?

in any case i hope the setback or maybe stall in your health is only temporary and I (we) are still sending prayers and good wishes on your steady improvement back to your old 1/2 Cup.

funny even your son wants updates on your tinkering and best of luck on finding the gliche in his MGF.

I just picked up this Schwinn recumbent bike for free and other than a small rubbing/squeaking sound everything works great. i pop in an old VHS tape in my little 13 inch TV/VCR and ride for 30 minutes cause i really need to improve my cardio.

not sure if you have this brand or another brand sold locally near you, but if you can find one that is a coat hanger or for a few bucks it might be worth picking up and using for a bit cause the lowest settings are like pedeling down hill and maybe a good way to get some of your strength back.

cheers and hope you get good test results from your doctors.

I am expecting that the after effects will take some time to wear off, but we will get there eventually. As you say one day at a time..

Dennis, Thank you

Trying to keep as active as possible with out over doing things, along with posting on the GJ has been great therapy for sure..

Chemotherapy is one experience you don't forget and believe me I am taking every ones advise this time round, getting lots of rest and being aware of all the post treatment issues. ( Mrs 1/2 Cup is making sure of that let me tell you as I have been grounded from even going to the big box store. :willy_nil )

Love the progress! And we trust you to not overdo.

Andy, thank you..

Just kicking back and taking things easy..

Glad to hear things are going OK Steve.

Just thought I'd post something to let you know I've been looking in.

Mat, thank you.

Getting there..:3gears:

Drives, I am more tired from this round of Chemo than projects to be honest. I have just been taking things real easy these last few days.
My blood count was low earlier this week but the specialist was happy to proceed with the Chemo in any case and I suspect this is still the case so we will see what my next bloods show..
There has been not much to show in regards to what I have been doing on the MG F other than a few obvious cable terminations that were pretty ordinary that I have repaired.
Andrews' parts order arrived last night however there is a few anomalies with the original install that need correction first.

Funny that you should mention Schwinn, Mrs 1/2 Cup has one ( exercise bike ) and they are a great unit.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
I must spend some time each day on it for some light exercise..

1/2 cup glad your back up and about and getting adjusted to your new normal!

Keep on Keeping ON!

Sub, thank you.

It will take a while even still all I can do is go with the flow...

Thank you one and all for your visit, have a great day..

1/2: i hope you are enjoying your weekend. if you just get on the bike and hit start you can change the tension with the up and down arrows as you like and if I were you i'd start slow and maybe level 1 or 2 and 5 minute or so sessions. or you'll know what you can do. just set the seat so your knees are a little bent when fully extended so you don't hyper extend your knee.

so NO MORE CHEEMO?

sending prayers and good wishes to you and your family and hope you are enjoying the weather change in your part of the world.

Cheers

Drives, just taking things easy this week end really..

The bike is great and you are right once you get it adjusted correctly and set it to the more moderate levels a few 5 minute sessions for starters each day should do the trick.

At this point in time there will be no more Chemo but as with any cancer treatment its never set in stone.
My next appointment with the Oncology Specialist is Monday week following a blood test and that will determine the treatment and its timing moving forward which is most likely onto the Immunotherapy all being well.

We thank you for your prayers and best wishes, they are truly appreciated..

Our weather has been fantastic of late, not too hot ( low 90s ) and still cool at night. This weekend we have had a nice refreshing drop of rain, something we haven't seen for a while..:thumbup:

Chemo *****, in any language.

It beats you up, and due to the frequency of cycles, it sometimes makes the patient feel like it is two steps forward and three steps back.

However, 1/2 Cup certainly is fighting it, and I can imagine with all of us willing him on in recovery, plus a good dose of common sense thrown in, by taking it as easy as he needs to, will see this round also become part of the past.

Hang in there buddy, you have us all, plus your family looking out for you.

Wishing you a good continued recovery.

Good to hear things are looking up . . . .

Lynn W

Lynn, thank you...

Speaking of beer I had my first one in many months the other day and how different it tasted against what I could remember pre Chemo. My taste buds really brought out the bitterness of the brew but it was quite pleasant..
I must try a few of my sisters brews just for comparison now..

Chemo or should I say the after effects of Chemo are certainly not the most pleasant experiences you would put on your bucket list let me tell you.:shocking:

Hopefully now that the Chemo is finished we will see the after effects diminish in time.:rocker:

I must say that the support that I have received throughout this journey has been just awesome and I am so humbled by that.

Steve I know it is Thanksgiving Day down under this year. It surely is here knowing you are progressing. My hope is you can enjoy some type of food today as much as we in America will enjoy the holiday. I hate to think what it would be like to eat wax beans every day; yuck! We will be thinking of you and trying to focus slowly on each bite in reverence for the sacrifice you have had to make. Thanks for your friendship. Hopes for your appetite to return with a vengeance! Clocking each day with a prayer until things are back in line. Bobby

Bobby, thank you, your words are greatly appreciated.

I trust that you and yours are enjoying your Thanksgiving

I am trying each day to taste test something different that works with my taste buds now. I have never been a fussy eater at all but would really like my taste buds to return to the new normal if nothing else..

Drives, Thanksgiving is not normally celebrated downunder but giving thanks for where I am at and the progress I have made is something I do every day..
Your thoughts and prayers are truly appreciated and I thank you for that..

The MGF s starting issue is directly related to a poorly installed after market distributor drive that did not allow the appropriate clearance between the cap and rotor. We are waiting on a spacer plate to be machined up and a locating step machined into the camshaft seal retainer plate to be completed..

Just saw your post about the taste of beer. I'm thinking that is a weight gain aid:beer::beer:

So glad you're improving!!

Andy, This means I will have to taste test every one I can get my hands on...

This week I have just been resting up as I still have some muscle and joint soreness that has been lingering since my last Chemo, hopefully in time that will right itself..

http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/side-effects/muscle-pain-myalgias.aspx

Have a great Thanksgiving every one, your families and friends. I thank you sincerely for all your thoughts and prayers..
