Ok I now understand the pinned socket instead welding. Good idea. We all want to know why your baby girl doesn’t get SO tools? 🤔

Instead of two wrenches, how about cut the combo in half? Also include a pair of pliers or slip locks.

Did not realize you’ve become a SO snob!🤣🤣. All the pieces is all quality US stuff.

If you cut the combo in half, you’ll still have two wrenches!, and less leverage.🤣🤣 Besides, I have plenty of 1/2” wrenches.

She has the other items in a kit I put together for her years ago.

Heres my look what I dragged home post.

I happened to be talking to Mac about our recent buys off MB and CL, he was telling me how I sucked on a Kennedy box I bought when I was coming up on a neighbors trash pile.
”Mac, I gotta go”!

This was sitting out by my neighbors trash cans, I backed up and pulled it out to the truck, neighbor came out to help me load. Good thing, as it’s pretty stout.

It’s a older concrete mixer, everything moves on it except the motor, I’ll swap that out, grease it up, weld a hole in the drum and it’s going to work.AEBEC738-5A26-407F-915C-5F0386F031EA.jpeg
The aluminum pulley on the drum is cracked, so I’ll need to see if I can weld it up.

Its amazing how things were built back then out of castings.

It’ll likely end up at my sons to help finish up the house build.

One of the nicest trash pile finds yet.

That certainly is a rugged looking mixer, my plastic one is leaking out the back seams, kind of wish I had something like the one you just picked up.......

Been a bit, but I’m alive. Freaking hurricane sucking a lot of time I didn’t have, but not complaining, we’re way luckier than others that went through it.

No real damage to speak of.

First order was to clear out the driveway. The man thing for us was tree branches and a few downed trees.
Only building damage was the fascia trim on the shop.

The front gate post was broken by a oak branch. When I set this post, I put plenty of concrete around it, so I wasn’t anxious to dig it up right away and we may reconfigured the gate later, so I just reinforced with a 4x4 across the top.

Glad you made it through relatively unscathed, I have a buddy on Ft. Myers Beach that ain't so luckey!
Sorry to here of your buddies outcome, they definitely took a big right hook to the chin.
I have a ex coworker buddy that lives in St James City (most southern point on Pine Island) who lost a pool cage only, thank the big guy in the sky for that. But the causeway to get to Pine Island was all washed out for a while.

I feel for anyone along the coast, especially the beach area. It’s just about total destruction.

It’s been a Pia, but we’re not complaining.

One of the managers here, his house was hit pretty hard.

Traveling for work yesterday to pick up pumps/ motors for a city project and went by my happy place scrap yard.

They succumbed to the controlling world of insurance and lawyers, had a sign posted that they’ll be no more wandering around the yard without a ******!😥. And it’s now required to wear PPE, ok, let me get my hard hat, already have the boots. Told the lady I wanted to look around in the big barn out back, she called someone and said to go back and meet my ****** at the barn! Yes, a scrap yard with a ****** in the barn out back!😁😁

There not used to people showing up with their own hard has.
7E509C28-55D5-422E-95CE-CF73EEF2F34F.jpeg

So…….. my ****** Eddie☹️ Let me walk around and eventually left me after he was comfortable that I wouldn’t sit behind the loader loading trucks with scrap or try to pull pieces of plate out from under the guys cutting it up with the torch (true story).

Got to the barn and it was largely clear out. Damn.

Found a couple caster donors, the yard guy I’ve dealt with in the past said he had just cut some casters of a rack.

So didn't find what I was after but left with two sets of casters.

The one set is Albion brand with the heavy brake lever and rotation lock. Some unidentified gunk on them that need cleaning. Probably old PCPs.

What does that bring you up to now........ 157 sets ?
Give or take 10!🤣🤣

I’ve found I’m worse than a woman trying decide which pair of shoes to wear.

Hmm, should I use the hard rubber or the phenolic wheels? 🤣🤣🤣

Seriously, I’ve lost track of the times I’ve come across a cab, frame, etc, went over to the caster den and was rolling around in 30 mins or less!

I'm a fan of putting casters under everything. If it doesn't have casters, it better fit on one of my hand trucks. My fanboy collection of casters fits in a couple of plastic peanut bins. Craig and Chris are caster superstars. Pretty sure four of Chris's casters cost more than the tools in my shop that are sitting on casters.

A little work related project at home. I don’t have any type of vise or work table on my job sites, so i brought this cam lock adapter home to take apart so I could install a different size cam lock.

I have my slab of plate for a table that won’t budge, a 48” pipe wrench laying on and clamped to the table. Set the 6” in the one wrench, dug up my other big wrench, (another 48” I didn’t remember having) to remove the bushing.

It was still no go. Out comes the torch to add some heat, thinking to myself if this don’t work, it’s getting cut next. I guess it heard me, cause it started to move.

It much going on, work is keeping me busy and we’re still cleaning up the oak tree bombs from the storm.

Picked up a little pool side basket ball hoop that’s was put out to trash. The “pole” was bent over. It’s just molded plastic and it collapsed.

I picked it up, figuring I could straighten somehow and it’d be perfect for my 1 yr old grandson.

The plastic had a kink, I stuck in in the vise and gave it a few strategic squeezes and was surprised on how well it worked. I came up with filling the pole with expanding foam to help keep from bending in the same spot.

I slipped on a piece of plastic tubing to reach the end from a existing hole in the middle. Filled and filled some more.

Go get a beer and come back to this.

I figured it ooze some, but it kept on coming out.
Put the plug back in pole and wrapped a zip tie to hold.
Then it was like a fountain out of two small hole on top. More zip ties.

It seems to be Ridgid , guess the little monster will be the test.

I had to go by a well site to pull some samples early today, stop at Walmart to get a ball. Just wanted a simple light play ball. Can’t find anywhere. At 5:30 AM, tons of employees about, so I ask the lady where to find. We don’t have any she said, except for this one I found.

OK I’ll take it, didn’t have a dang tag! She goes and gets a label, marked it $.25 cents!

Wow, guess it’s been a little while since I visited my own thread!

We went up to Cocoa Beach for a quick wedding and as always, make sure to checkout the area MP postings. I did find something to pick up.

To maintain the expectations of myself, I bought these:

Five brand new Albion 4” casters with nice brakes. Another addition to my caster staging area and maintaining my status!

I have a couple (hundred) future projects that casters with brakes will be needed.

Now a actual shop project.

Bought a BadBoy zero turn mower a couple of years ago and it’s always had a issue with the battery draining down between longer gaps in mowing. BB was no help, dealer I bought from is 2 hrs away and the ones close by I don’t care to deal with, so we just dealt with it.

Finally got a battery disconnect for it and here’s my install.

Built a simple mounting bracket.

Mounted to cross channel under seat, the battery cable ran right under, so a easy mod to cut cable and crimp new ends on.

Got carried away with torch on the heat shrink.

Didn’t have to buy anything other than the switch. This will make it easier for my wife in using the mower.

So, kinda forgot about these. This set was listed but with no location, guy replied, he was two hours away. Not even this diehard is going that far for a set of casters.
This enabler said he’d be in Ft Myers this weekend and could meet at the Crackle Barrel at the interstate, 15 mins from me. I agreed of course.

Didn’t realize these were once rubber encased and the rubber was long gone in the pictures, but I was focused on the the two swivels with the brakes. I think I have just some wheels in my stock!

Happy New Year to you CB. Another year to collect more casters... ain't it great! Actually, I need to spend a little time doing it myself because some of my old ones are giving up the ghost. Looking forward to seeing what you might be up to in 2023.

Happy New Year Mark.

Times a flying in the new year!

Nothing big going on in the shop, but I’m really using some of these casters.

Back when I put casters on my 10k generator, I repurposed some caster mount plates that were rejected by some dude. I had built these for a Lista cabinet that I traded and the bolt pattern was 90 deg off and caster were non swivel.

I used two casters that I had on hand (imagine that) but there of the rubber type and they get flat spots from the weight.

Swapping same type hard caster to swivel frames.

So I can now roll generator around a little bit easier.

And to dispel the talk of me being a caster *****, I do use the casters! 🤣🤣🤣

Had a hurricane damaged tree split and fall over, a big shade provider behind the shop.
09B88286-1EB3-4C41-847A-346EB732D12E.jpeg
It fell over a fence, but stopped short of taking the fence out. Once to cut everything I could, needed to temporarily support the main branch to keep off the fence, a heavy channel and one of my pipe jacks did the trick.
I was able to cut pieces off right up to the Jack stand. I was was watching for movement as I didn’t want to be rolled over by this branch, but I should of pain as close attention to the smaller pieces I was cutting off.

Damn, I exceeded Shorty for a change !

Looks way worse than it is, just a bad scrape from the pointed edge of the Oak.

A11E816E-D558-4095-95BC-F90A536EB9C8.jpeg
Good thing my wife is used to patching up the animals!

Anyway, everything is cut on this side of the fence, still need to cut remainder of tree down.

I put myself on mostly light duty for rest of the day.

If budget allows, I’ll be extending the back of the shop to make up for the lack of shade!

I figured I post up some cbacres funnies.

I finally changed out my well pump, I mean, I’ve only had the replacement sitting in shed for 3 years!
I decided to use stainless pipe/fittings for the suction, noting the galvanized ****** s had rusted from last install (20 plus years). Suction is 1-1/4”, well drop pipe is 1-1/4”. Check valve is 1-1/2” I don’t remember why, maybe that was all I could get back then. So a little use of bushings to get there. I figured check valve is fine, I’ll just save some money.

I like using the sch 80 PVC unions as they have a oring to help make sealing easier. Piped up new pump, got it back online. Next day a get a text picture from wife showing water spraying out on discharge side.

I get home, find the union is cracked. End up omitting that union and redo using all glue fittings. I’ll change later. Like when I have to take apart for some reason.

Alls good till next week, get a call no water! WTF now? Had her turn breakers off till I get home,

Look over, the freaking union on the suction is cracked! Guess in my slightly older age I gotta make sure **** is tight so I don’t have toco e back to it, well, I blew the come back to it part!

3136AD88-369B-480B-9A21-F5AD4D942827.jpeg
Don't have an another union on hand, just a 1-1/2” galvanized in my fitting bucket (more on this later).

I call Ace to make sure they had a 1-1/4” union, they checked and I’m on my way. No sch 80, just sch 40 and galvanized, so I get both, I’ll decide at home.

Start to put together and Fuk, I needed a 1-1/2” not 1-1/4”. Have no idea what the hell I was thinking??🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️.

After all this running and ****, I go grab the 1-1/2” in the shed. At least it’s a real old stock Stockham USA fitting. Next time I’ll just buy the damn check valve and keep all the same.
20E6E84F-3786-48CF-BC23-8C5AAE0BC87E.jpeg
Finally got to use my angle jaw wrench.
5B0C1C5A-1778-46E3-B61E-02221F4051C7.jpeg
I use Teflon tape and pipe dope. This particular dope does make the PVC threads go together pretty easily, just gotta regulate my power!

That night, my wife informed me there’s no water as she finished her shower, I guess the well system parts put out a call to have a fail party! The solenoid valve finally failed after 40 plus years. That was the next days project.
