I figured I post up some cbacres funnies.
I finally changed out my well pump, I mean, I’ve only had the replacement sitting in shed for 3 years!
I decided to use stainless pipe/fittings for the suction, noting the galvanized ****** s had rusted from last install (20 plus years). Suction is 1-1/4”, well drop pipe is 1-1/4”. Check valve is 1-1/2” I don’t remember why, maybe that was all I could get back then. So a little use of bushings to get there. I figured check valve is fine, I’ll just save some money.
I like using the sch 80 PVC unions as they have a oring to help make sealing easier. Piped up new pump, got it back online. Next day a get a text picture from wife showing water spraying out on discharge side.
I get home, find the union is cracked. End up omitting that union and redo using all glue fittings. I’ll change later. Like when I have to take apart for some reason.
Alls good till next week, get a call no water! WTF now? Had her turn breakers off till I get home,
Look over, the freaking union on the suction is cracked! Guess in my slightly older age I gotta make sure **** is tight so I don’t have toco e back to it, well, I blew the come back to it part!

Don't have an another union on hand, just a 1-1/2” galvanized in my fitting bucket (more on this later).
I call Ace to make sure they had a 1-1/4” union, they checked and I’m on my way. No sch 80, just sch 40 and galvanized, so I get both, I’ll decide at home.
Start to put together and Fuk, I needed a 1-1/2” not 1-1/4”. Have no idea what the hell I was thinking??

.
After all this running and ****, I go grab the 1-1/2” in the shed. At least it’s a real old stock Stockham USA fitting. Next time I’ll just buy the damn check valve and keep all the same.

Finally got to use my angle jaw wrench.

I use Teflon tape and pipe dope. This particular dope does make the PVC threads go together pretty easily, just gotta regulate my power!
That night, my wife informed me there’s no water as she finished her shower, I guess the well system parts put out a call to have a fail party! The solenoid valve finally failed after 40 plus years. That was the next days project.
