I thought I was happy with my Porter Cable 60 gallon upright.... until I came across an Atlas Copco GA10 compressor like this one on Ebay... it was being cleared out from an industrial food processor who was moving to a bigger location and had been replaced with a newer unit, it obviously was leaking oil and disconnected so everyone assumed it was dead, so I offer low thinking I could use the motor for a rotary phase converter - sold.
Got it home and looked it over... 10HP 160PSI 43CFM
screw compressor, service note on the air filter less than 6 months old, auto drain, separate fan cooled oil cooler, dew point and oil temp/pressure protection, AND a built in air dryer !!! with a HUGE mouse nest in the back of the air dryer... where the mice had chewed a small hole through the air line !!, the oil cooler had been bypassed at some point, and the two lines looped with a union... when I inspected the cooler there was an obvious crack on one of the ( removable! ) fittings... called up the previous owner the next day and talked to the guy who had bought the new compressor to replace it- it was running fine when replaced but would "shut down for a while " ( go into thermal protection because of oil temps ) after about 6 hours during the heat of summer...
1 replacement air line, 1 fitting for the oil cooler and it is back in business...
do I need it... hell no!
is it cool... hell yes!
massive overkill? .. oh yeah!!
not bad for 75$
