I ordered on the 17th of July at $335 which was $375 minus a $54 discount plus $12 tax. I just called to get the difference and she took the original $375-$279 = $96 refund, so I get it for my payment of 335 minus 96 so under $240 delivered. I told her I really paid $323 plus free shipping but she was sure she was right? Like everyone mine arrived as a piece of cardboard with 6 bags inside, but I don't seem to be missing any and have one duplicate. Overall a pleasing experience. I love this forum.

Missing 2 and one extra. Although they are USA made, I'm somewhat disappointed in the finish and some of the sockets have ridiculously thick walls. Overall they are much lower quality than my craftsman sockets from the '90s, but it will be nice to not have to search for the right socket.

Got mine yesterday. Sorted all the sockets today and found 2 missing and 2 duplicates. Interesting to me that all the little bitty ones are correct, but have two 5/8 12 pt. deeps and no 9/16, and two 15mm std 12 pt. and no 16mm. Same story, cardboard box, way too big with 6 plastic bags inside. There were about 10 sockets escaped the bags during shipping, but didn't get out of the well taped cardboard box. Most of the sockets are G2D coded, but there are some GK, GD, and K2D.

I started off buying a complete set of Harbor Freight and Hanson Holders. No matter how I arranged them I couldn't get them in the big drawer of the HF 44" tool chest. I had to put the 1/4" and the 8 points in the drawer below. I didn't want to do the foam fit because I wanted to be able to grab a tray and take it with me. I really didn't like all the empty slots and extra sockets floating around. Someone on this board was selling a new foamfit for $75 shipped. Couldn't be happier. All I had to do was trim 1/4" off the back to get it to fit in the drawer.

Time to break out the label maker!

In the end it makes no difference but look at all of the differences in the interior finishes on the sockets. Part of me is bothered, part of me is oh well.

With the 20% back in points listed here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257302

And the cash back from ebates I posted earlier in the thread(post 182), its still a good price.

Im wondering why they are keeping it right around this price point (with slow increases), but its almost like they are testing to see what price point the market is willing to bear, and still have people going for the deal.

Got my set in last week, and sorted them and I was not missing a single socket. I almost passed out due the shock that Sears got it right

Bought another set of these, but will only be using the metrics.

If anyone wants to buy the standard one, send me a PM with your offer.

Box showed up today looking like it was run over by a freight train, one end was sagging open and as soon as I tried to pick it up sockets spilled out.

I'll have to sit down and inventory, but I'm going to guess I got substantially less than 299 here.

Has anyone had large quantities missing from the ****** packing they do?

Listed at 299.96 now. SAVE15 doesn't work, nor will SEARS35OFF300 even if I add another cheapie to my cart. Anyone found any codes that will work with the current price?

Wow. They're getting smart taking that .04 cents off. I guess we've been boning them in this thread too long:spit:

Well if you open a sears charge it would be 285 after above coupon, 260 after $25 credit for opening card and then $224 after 10% off first purchase. That is probably as close to $199 as you are going to get. Unless you do store pickup and they take more than five minutes.

I recently had a chance to inventory my order of this set. I've got to say that I am disappointed, the chrome is criminal. My set looks as though it has seen 10 yrs of abuse. I have C-man sockets I purchased from the 90's which are in better condition. A number of the sockets are rusted, have the shallow stamping, barely legible etching, or stamping and etching overlapped.

While they are all USA made, I will contacting Sears to see what can be done.

Contact the apex # on the inventory list with the cat # and they will send replacements

Think I am done with Sears at this point. As mentioned the overall quality of the set I recieved is poor and Sears will not give me the option of sending out a replacement set. The only options they will give is to return to a Store (mine closed) or mail back for a refund. Even though I have asked twice for a replacement set, the CSR's :)confused:) say they cannot process a replacement request.

As 90% this was to be a duplicate set used in a different garage, I believe I will now just slow switch it all over to SK/ Snap-on or Matco as I can afford to.

Received mine and they were very nice. Some had some extra paint on the rim but everything else was spot on.

If you call the Apex number on the parts list they should be able to send replacement sockets for the ones that are questionable. The other options make sense for talking to sears directly.

I do understand this, however this would be replacing about 25% or 75 sockets. Not worth it in my opinion, which is why I requested a replacement from Sears. As noted they cannot or will not do that, refund only.

I was actually pretty impressed with mine as well when I got it this spring. The sockets looked better than ones in a number of sets I've looked at over the past couple years.

Who cares?

Do you guys actually work on cars?

Tools get dropped, slid across the floor, etc. It's a tool, as long as it performs it's function, all is well.

Keep the car shiny.

The finish on mine wasn't the greatest, but what do you expect for 270 bucks.

It's a lot of bang for the buck. Made in USA, and also has a warranty for life.

Gotta say responses such as this un-nerve me a little bit. I have 3 Mustangs that I maintain, and am currently in the process of replacing an engine in a Jeep GC. Just because a person expects an item purchased NEW to be in NEW condition doesn't mean I can't use it.

FYI, the reason I requested a replacement was because about 75 sockets where either stamped incorrectly, etched poorly, or rusted.

All of the socket had extremely thin Chrome, and in Illinois that means they would eventually pit and rust. I was not going to return them for that reason however I thought other forum members may want to know the Chrome quality.

Agreed, they are good value for some, however the Lifetime Warranty is questionable with the current state of Sears, and I would guess USA replacements will be short lived. In my instance the value wasn't there as this was a second set to be used in my other garage.

I agree with some. I used the SK deal from Epstein to get the 4 sets of 6 point SKs in 3/8. I will still get a few Craftsman things (wrenches and such on clearance), but I am going to start paying a little more for Snap On, Mac, Matco, SK, Armstrong, etc.

I cracked another 10mm 1/4" drive socket. These are fine for at home, but I stepped up to a snap-on 1/4" metric set up. I still use the Cman chromes in 3/8 (rare), 1/2 (even more rare), and SAE (occasionally). Still like the set, just not built for heavy duty use. And i'm really liking the semi-deep snap ons.

Just a heads up - this set is back on sale for $339

Not the best deal out there but beats the hell out of the usual $479!

I agree a 100%. These are tools. I have alot of craftsman over the years and they have always worked for me. If the tool breaks sears will replace it. I agree with sears policy that if you do not like the set return it. But expecting sears to send a replacement set because a person feels the chrome is a little thin is absurd. These sockets in this kit are less than a dollar apiece. These are the best value for anyone looking for a fairly complete set.
