Thank you!

The granite is for the "big wall" in the middle of the house.

Here is some advance from today

It comes from China, no other place has such Grey color (that I know of)

Nice I like:)

The wall your putting granite on, isnt that the wall you have with the natural wood grain? I havent read all the way back if it changed.

Also who welded those square tubes... talk about sloppy!

Welcome!

You mean in Render or the recent made one?
- Render: That failed.
- Recent Pour: Different walls.

I guess you must be talking about this picture?
D13.0393s.jpg

I don't know much about proper welding but the tubes are machined and ground flat to fit the spacers. The guy doing all the metalwork welds oil pipes for a real living so I'm not worried about it but since the stairs will be shaved and painted tends to bring the sloppynes while welding and the extra work while grinding

- Small update:

Staircase: - Made the covers for the Beam, I like it more this way.
D13.0414s.jpg

Patio: - Both sides are covered in cantera now and grouting began. Bought 20kg of grout. Yeah sure.. Another 20kg were needed and maybe a bit more.
D13.0413s.jpg

D13.0417s.jpg

D13.0415s.jpg

Granite: - Front wall is done, just missing the Top fin and finishing. It makes the rest of the house look TOO WHITE, I think we will have to add some color to it.

D13.0419s.jpg

Vertical Garden: - Working on it now, tincan aluminum base with polypropylene sheets as weather barrier to wall. I wanted a awesome face as design but my wife gave me the look

weldrous bubblegumous for sure!

 All this welding hate made me unpack the tig welder, Bought it 3 years ago and never unpacked it. Time to learn.

Made a quick visit yesterday. But first a small wife introduction:
I love my wife, she is a very humble and simple person, through the design and build of the house she has been very "away" from it. She asked for a few things while designing like the place for the laundry room and a dressing room, apart from that she said do whatever you like. On the finishing I have been trying to include her to take choices in floor/walls/kitchen etc with some mixed luck to avoid possible blame. Said that, here is some update to make sense of the intro.

Green Wall: I really wanted to do something nonsense with it like a happy face or an atomic bomb. My wife gave me the "look" for the first time ever since I know her and politely said -"I don't think it will blend correctly with the house" . On the moment I call the installer. -"Do something that blends with the house", (joking with my wife). Installer says okay and hangs up. :dunno:

This is what blending with the house means for him. I wont try to understand it, I will just appreciate it.
D13.0428s.jpg

Main Bathroom: ohh the bathrooms... This one is a jewel. I wanted natural stone on the bathrooms, the obvious choice is marble right? so I visit a few retailers and choose 5 stones that I like to show my wife. Back at home I start showing them one by one, she doesn't look at them for more than a second each one so I ask what's wrong, -"do they have anything that doesn't look like marble?"

Solution? slings of dark gravel. Even with the "high" cost of install, the low price of the stone makes it ridiculously cheap. Most used here in Mexico as facade cover in 2" slings.

I chose 1" slings on free lengths to cover the WC/Shower/Tub area. It isn't as straight as premade blocks of other stones but you have to appreciate raw nature RIGHT?

D13.0431s.jpg

D13.0432s.jpg

D13.0430s.jpg

D13.0429s.jpg

Granite: As I said before this was a hard decision, a lot of options and ultimately she encouraged the granite. It still don't know if it was because she hated every other option or just because she was tired of me coming everyday with new pieces of porcelain/stone/brick/etc.

Sorry for the stories, sometimes a bit of background can change the perspective of why things are like they are and some people maybe even relate it on the wife side .

Love the design, love the stories. I even like the killer bathroom finish. I'm also sure there are US building code violations in your choice of bathroom wall covering. There must be some yellow stripe on corners requirement or at least warning signs. I think it's good to live in a place where eye protection is a forearm.

Keep the pictures and stories coming and keep your wife involved -- they have a way of letting you know you've messed up (I don't take mine for granted even after 52 years). :bitchslap

Really love your green wall (and the rest of the build)!

Is the whole wall going to be covered in plants?

So the green wall is a vertical living garden? That is cool. Is there irrigation built into the wall or do you need to water it manually?

And that shower tile is loco cool. You don't happen to own stock in Band-Aid, do you?

Because of the raw cuts or why?

yes, they brought another batch yesterday

Living garden with built in watering, once a month check for water level and add fertilizer

and the stone is not that bad nor sharp . If I owned stock at band-aid this house would have been done by now.... 10 times bigger

Since the loco killer and eye popper comments I got a little worried about the stone and went for a test.

I used the internationally approved manual method. You just rub your hand as hard as you can on the surface and analyze the results.

It is with great joy that I tell you that there were no cuts on the hand, however it is also true that it is not cotton soft and there were some red spots on the hand from hitting different depths in a quick vertical motion. ;)

Seriously, the stone is not sharp at all, it gets tumbled after cutting to remove any hard edges.

The Corners are closed on each other:

The first batch of wood is back from the sawmill, this is the PaloEscrito for decking/bathroom floors/patio
All the house smells awesome :rocker:

D13.0438s.jpg

D13.0439s.jpg

The vertical garden or green wall as better said by Hausi is done, I doubted the beginning but now that it is complete I like it a lot. I thought they would install a complicated computer controlled space age timer to control the watering but its just a timer/relay for the pump.

D13.0440s.jpg

As I said in a previous post, I could not find any faucets that I could afford that I liked, and those expensive ones were not that good looking either, so I browsed catalogs for hours and found this bathtub exit. Went to the counter and ordered 6 pieces, the lady said. WOW 6 bathtubs must be a big house, I smiled and tried to explain that they were for the sinks and she started saying that they would not work bla bla bla. Life tells you to smile and don't explain yourself. :twak:

D13.0442s.jpg

It looked like a 2 piece design and it is!

D13.0443s.jpg

This just gets better and better

Now that I can lose the guard on the back I will flush them to the mirrors making them looking longer and better?

In other news:

I bent a wheel - dropped 5psi per block, had to bring out the compressor every 3 blocks, loooooong journey back home.

From that nice closeup I can see it's no more dangerous than a tiled corner.

The vertical garden is just amazing. It's like having your own mountainside meadow in the house.

The faucet spigot looks great, the wheel looks horrible and your daughter is just beautiful. You might want to save that picture to privately present to her on her 15th birthday. Young women just love that kind of stuff (trust me, I have three teenage granddaughters).

Great photo of your daughter! I've got a third girl due in November...

Love the faucet and can't wait to see the bathroom finished. They will look amazing with the mirror. I love seeing different materials used like you have with the shower.

The vertical garden is beautiful, I have a close friend who does them here in Australia and have helped him build and install a couple of times. They are relatively basic and easy, the issue is getting the right plants and positions.

Congratulations! Ready to go to work like a zombie again?

Using different materials is easy, knowing when to stop is the hard stuff, there is SO much things you can put everywhere that you really have to control yourself

Don't get lost, I'm going to make some BUILD.LIVE.REPEAT stickers to take you out of bussiness :rocker:

And sadly no, If you can adopt my family I would happily move over.

I took the babysitting shift for the afternoon and asleep babies are very boring. So, blanket on desk and opened solidworks

To go with the spouts of the sinks and the showers I want to make my own knobs too. I'm after the old stereo volume knob look, as always with this stuff, it is a hit or miss on how will it blend with the house but I hope they will look awesome.

I posted this picture earlier:

D13.0277s.jpg

Tried some variations and a friend, who will cnc them for me suggested a simple line. I think it looks clean.

D13.0448s.jpg

Also made an exercise of the dining table and lamp, 8 or 6 chair is the dilemma now. Space is 16x16
- 6 chair leaves plenty of space around but may look small.
- 8 chair at nearly 10ft long leaves 3ft on the large sides to walk around it which is not that much, but it fills the space nicely.

D13.0447s.jpg

I just don't have sense of space in my mind, I need to see real things to imagine properly. I need it as big as possible without hurting the "efficiency" of the house.

Well that's it, took like an 20 minutes to write this with one hand and patting with the other

I think I saw some crate lumber wrapped around some stone. A couple of squares for the legs and an easily adjustable cardboard top might help...

Well, I reckon sometimes I just get lost into stuff. I forget how simple life can be. Took your advice and went for it. 8 chair it is. Thank you!

Love the camo house!
Those control knobs look sublime, great design. Can I have some too?

looks better than a bland concrete wall and colourfullness is nice too. not everybody can live in/with the almost ascetic surroundings of abstamaria's house(which is another one of my faves here ;) ). in other words, me likes much!

like Bob Heine said, cardboard and pallet wood make great "onsite" 3D rendering.

The house is looking fantastic!

Thanks HoHo, amazing concrete finishing by the way :rocker:

And this is something I should have explained on the first post:
Those of you that looked at the renders may already know this...

D.TRECE:
- D is the block where our house is.
- TRECE means Thirteen, yes, as the number 13.

Meaning the house is #13 on the D block. House in front of ours is F16 IIRC and so on.

Since I'm in such a bizarre use of materials phase of the build I want to do something different from the render.

D13.R02.jpg

This is the new intention

D13.0449s.jpg

Dark wood with horizontal grain with a lighter piece on vertical grain.

What do you think?

I was wondering what it meant, but figured it was your name or something. "Trece" in Spanish means "13". Makes sense now. Thanks.

That green wall is gorgeous. My wife wants one of those now. And nice job on the shower stone sharpness test. Way to take one for the team. Can't wait to see the finished product, which goes triple for you I bet!

I think the design is beautiful just personally I would not choose wood, it gives a classical feel to it I think ;)

What is in your mind?

wood is nice. how would it render with a cut-out slab of that blackish stone with a stainless polished D? :)

You are on something, I like it... Made some more:

1- New Idea
2- Wood and Stainless
3- Inverse #2
4- Black Slate with Stainless
5- Inverse #4
6- Black Bathroom Stone with Stainless
7- Inverse #6

D13.0450s.jpg

I like the last ones but the stone is going to be a pain to chamfer, not impossible, but way more elaborated.

I think you hit it out of the park with the first rendering, but then I'm a big fan of wood. I will concede that it is out of step with the rest of the house. But I still like it.
