Wokspaces above 1200 squarefeet.
A little more progress on the lathe. It’s always a challenge fitting and mounting all of the components, especially when using the existing enclosures. Came up with a second tier on the HMI rear door. This is where the original electronics were. Turned out well. Everything is secure and the terminals and I/O status LED’s on the lower board are still accessible and visible. Lower layer is gigabit Ethernet switch and 1616 Ethernet I/O expansion. Upper layer is Acorn control board and 8 output interposing relay board.

As far as upholstery work goes... My day job work schedule, getting married and some setbacks have put things on hold for quite a while.
Put the car in the air for the first time on the lift this morning. Took a good look around. Lots looks good, plenty of things to address, clean up, improve, etc in order to consider it road worthy and safe.
This is the first I’ve worked with a lift. It is already a complete game changer. The seats were slapped in the car and the fasteners were between the mufflers and floor pan. Would have sucked on a creeper. Effortless with the car in the air and a hand inside and under the car.

Looking at the picture again...what’s “Collet” for? Is there an automatic collet chuck closer on your lathe?

Yes! Pneumatic collet closer, controlled by the cnc control.

I’ll have to sort out something to make with it. This is about the retrofit and learning a little about cnc turning for me. I want more of a tool room cnc lathe for my stuff me thinks. Time will tell. The work envelope on the Hardinge is really small. Not sure it will prove useful enough for my stuff.

Yeah, I agree. Most of what I do is probably bigger than the Hardinge can hold and I’ll bet it’s not rigged enough to take 1/8” cuts in steel. They’re newt though. For precision work, there’s nothing better. What kid if collets does it use? 5C? Would be neat if they did, you can get hex and square collets in 5C.

Was able to stack some discounts at HF and got their 50 ton press for a really good price. Sold my old shop built smaller press and nearly paid for the new one. I picked it up at the freight terminal.
It came in a simple crate, nearly completely assembled. Weighs in over 600 pounds so I had to use the gantry to unload and get it upright. Was able to roll it through the shop on two furniture dollys. In its final resting place.
I’ve had this Northern Tool press brake die for over ten years. Old press wasn’t wide enough for it. Set it up on the two plates included with the press and did a test piece. This is going to be awesome!

One of the reasons I went to the 56" tool boxes is I wanted to get things off the wall. There are a lot of ways guys organize wrenches in their drawers. I didn't like the typical rails, mostly because I don't really have sets of wrenches. I have a collection of stuff I've put together over the years. So, I wanted something modular. Toolbox Widget's vertical wrench organizers seemed to fit the bill. Overall they do a good job at the intended function. Even after the current 20% off, I feel like they are priced about double what they are worth (to me). I obviously bought them, so take that with a grain of salt. I will design and 3D print my own size labels so that all sizes are visible from the top. Their tags are only twelve sizes, leaving a lot unlabeled. I'm happy to have the wrenches off the wall and in one drawer.
Just a couple days ago, I got a email saying that they have the new labels available now that run all the "normal" sizes.

Did some work on the wife’s “adventure” rig, an ‘04 Honda CRV. She loves the thing and it’s long since paid for. The hood was rattling around at highway speeds. A quick look revealed a flimsy aftermarket latch that was starting to separate at the rivets. Ordered a new Honda latch.
Turns out the vertical support bar’s bottom attachment bolt wasn’t going through the bar.
That took care of the hood issue. Having the lift made this an easy, fun five minute job. The headlights were hazed over bad.
A few minutes with some polish and they are a lot better.
Replaced some burnt out light bulbs and swapped on the winter tires. Again so easy and enjoyable with the lift. It’s good to go and she’s tickled pink.
Assembled the Swag Off-road finger brake using the new MIG welder.
I’ve been reworking the small metal fabrication room. It’s a lot more organized. Stacked coupons at HF and got a 44” cabinet for about $400 out the door. I love these HF boxes for keeping the shop organized.
Got a hell of a deal on a oxy acetylene torch on FB market place. I had to move a few things out of the small room so there is room to work. Thinking the horizontal bandsaw will also get relocated. Not sure on that one.
Dropping the roll up door, shutting the man door to the storeroom and turning on the air filter does a great job of managing the grinding dust.

It’s funny how true this is! I really enjoy working on her stuff. More than many other projects. Thank you for the kind words. I built that room right at five years ago. Part of me wishes I had allocated more space. I think moving the vertical and horizontal bandsaws out is resulting in enough space to work and contain the grinding dust. I have several metal working projects that will help in sorting the room out.

Continuing to sort out my metal fab room, tools and workflow. Moved the bandsaw out of the small fab room.
... and upgraded in the process. The mitering head is a pleasure to use.
I’m still sorting out how I want all this to work in the shop. The small fab room’s whole purpose is to contain as much grinding dust as I can. I came up with this plan for a material rack. It will hang on the wall above the bandsaw and sandblast cabinet. The area above the bandsaw will have lower shelves for shorter sections. I never bring home sticks longer than 10’ and I don’t keep a whole lot of material on hand. I think this material rack will help me know what I’ve got on hand without digging through the mess it currently is.
I settled on a 3 degree up angle for the shelf legs to keep material from rolling off. Fireball Tool magic square will make the setup a breeze.
The magnetic shims to center the 1.5 tubing on the 3” flat bar.
I’ll weld 1/8” flat bar on the free end of the shelf arms as a retainer.
