Guys at my shop are freaking out over this drill. I'll definitely place another order if they're available!
Love this drill, but I think my chuck might have an issue. When I tighten it, no more than a few clicks it won't loosen without making a ratcheting sound all the to wide open, it then continues to operate like a normal chuck, making no ratcheting sounds either forward or back. I'm going to play with it a bit more to be certain.
Correction to the above: it's when i open the chuck all the way, with a bit of force, then try to close the chuck. That is when I get the ratcheting noise.
This is the same for me as well, was wondering the same as you. But since we both experience it, perhaps that's normal operation? It does seem a little strange, doesn't affect the chuck's operation but I was curious.
That seems to be a Rohm thing, I have Rohm chucks on Bosch, Festool and now Fein drills and they all make that sound once in a while.
Interesting. I sent a video into Shane to see what they think and say about it. Will let you guys know the outcome, or Shane can too if he wishes.

I have an older NiCad 18V Dewalt drill that does this exact same thing. Maybe we should just avoid opening the chuck all the way?
I just played a bit with the chuck and it looks like it only does that when you open the chuck all the way.
Where is the fun in that?![]()
At least some of the older Dewalt drills also had Rohm chucks.
Ahh **** I just wish it wasn't so soon I need to replenish my tool buying funds!!Fellas, so we checked this out and I want to report that this is normal behavior for the chuck. We checked multiple Fein drills and even the Festool ratcheting chuck and they all exhibit the same thing. No need to worry and like I told @mgnu via email, you've got a full 3-year warranty to cover you down the road.
I realize that getting a great deal like this makes you question why it's such a good deal and if there's something wrong with the drill/chuck/batteries/etc. I totally get that, so please use the heck out of it and if there's anything wrong, we'll help you get it right.
Now, on to the good news... You guys asked for it and we're delivering it!![]()

We will have a sweet, sweet suhhhhhhhhmokin' deal for you on the Fein AFSC 18 Cordless Supercut. The perfect complement to that shiny new drill with a set of extra batteries. We'll have a very limited number of these as well as a price that'll knock your socks off. So, subscribe to our email to get notified and jump on it quickly.
I don't want to break the forum rules by posting about it myself and being considered a spammer. But, it'll be significantly cheaper than anywhere you can find it online. Note: the current price on our website, is not the promotional pricing, so hang tight.

Also would that be against the forum rules? Astro Pneumatic is always posting about their own deals on woot.
2. The "Hot Deals" section is only available to our users and our supporting vendors. We will not allow listed deals from other vendors. In other words, no dealers allowed.
I was hoping for an impact to go with it..
When using a hole saw the darn things always seem to hang up near the break through. This Fein has some kind of electronic sensor that causes the drill to "beep!" and stop the power immediately when the hole saw hangs up. This is major cool and different from the usual mechanical clutch most modern drills have. If you've ever had a powerful drill try to break your wrist you'll understand. Release the trigger and press again to restart the drill. This function alone makes me very glad to have purchased the Fein.
Anxiously waiting the multi master deal!

That MM 250 you linked to on our site is a discontinued model, so it's not really an apples-to-apples comparison. Yes, it'll be the cordless SUPERCUT, not Multimaster, with charger and two batteries. No blades included, but for what we're knocking off the price you could get a quite a nice assortment of blades and still be ahead of the next closest price online.

Interesting comment about power of drill try to break your wrist. That does not sound fun and glad that I never encounter such situation. I am not saying I don't believe you but in what sort of situation would one need to be careful of possible wrist injury so I can be aware? I don't work in industrial and only do normal diy around house with the tools I buy at hd/lowes.
Wow, never heard about feature like that before so back to debate with myself if can justify to myself buying a second set.
Come to think about it, I could surprise myself for christmas.
Almost every time you use it, newer cordless models are more powerful then they used to be so if a bit catches while drilling and you, the royal you, did not pay the proper attention the drill might try to rotate and twist and damage your wrist.
I hardly use the clutch and have it on full power so on the lower gears the drill has quite some torque and I am also guilty not to use the handle very often.

The electronic clutch is an advantage of a brushless motor. Drills with brushed motors must use a mechanical clutch like most of us are used to. Brushless motors were first used around 2005 by Panasonic if memory serves. Festool and Fein have been using them since about 2007. Most other drill manufacturers have added them to their offerings in recent years.
If you're running a large bit, I would recommend using the included handle for the drill to reduce the risk of it catching and taking you for a ride. There is a lot of torque at play here, so it really can hurt you.
I thought the Wonky was e-clutch?
I remember when the Dewalt brushless drills launched and people freaked out about the E-clutch on them. That's the one thing I wonder if Milwaukee will add with One-key is an electronic clutch. Right now they are still using a mechanical one.
