Only took about a week to get though it all. Lots of useful stuff on here I'm going to be trying. Inspiring me to get some more progress made on mine and pics of said progress. Will have to start my own thread here soon

The floor is not much more than dirt and low head space. I started many years ago to dig it out, lowering it in the process. It seems that every time I try to get started on it, something else comes up and throws me a curve.
Now that scenario sure sounds familiar. Finally got back on doing the other 1/2 of my basement.........so close to pouring and calling it done....
Huge job. Good luck with your dig!

Nutt, It is great to read through your timeline and see the evolution of your shop through that past 5 years. You have put a lot of effort into this build and the attention to detail is inspirational. I appreciate even the details of minor upgrades such as your airline additions and such.
Great work and thanks for sharing.
Holy hell I reached the end. Impressive what you have done. I hope to one day be able to match half of your talents. Some amazing Ideas and I will be rereading when I own a garage and "stealing" some Ideas.

You've put some serious effort into your place and it shows. I wish our cellar was that big. Did you have a way to enter/exit your basement from the outside or did you have to go back up the stairs through the house ?

Instead of a cotter pin what about hitch pin. I think that's what they're called
I have seen some of those lights with a clamp for mounting to workbench ends, etc. good engineering but it's a shame for making 4 stops to fight the right fitting.
Did you get anything else why you were out or was that thinking time for a new project?
Great idea mounting the lamp!![]()
Nice mod for the lamp!
Thanks Eric. Your place is a far cry from what it started out as too, nicely done.
No, didn't have to ferry dirt through the house, thankfully. I have to admit it took so long I felt like poor old Andy Dufresne though.
We had 2 separate outside entries, so on the 1st half I dug out I used the one on that side. Then we bricked it up and filled in the outside part (it was the one with lower headroom anyways)
The second entry is in the far left corner in the earlier picture I posted. We had Kousma out of Willard spray foam insulate the foundation sill area and the basement entry. Made a substantial difference. I really wasn't expecting to be able to tell the difference, was pleasantly surprised.
I don't have a link specifically on the basement dig, but there are lots of pictures of it in an indirect way on my geothermal install thread on Bangshift.com - link here http://www.bangshift.com/forum/foru...quit-fooling-with-houses-and-get-back-to-cars

Been following this thread a while - like what you're doing. My dad and myself have both been through Holy Loch during our Navy days - was your dad a submariner?
Enjoying the transformation from the start till now. Keep it up!
Dan
I still think we need a "like" button on the GJ. But then again, it might keep people from actually making a post. Nice "quick" wire pulling gig. Looks like the new shelves are more than adequate to support the larger speakers with no problem.
Nutts: well done. did you test the old speakers before deciding to do this? i'm betting you did or maybe i skimmed over where you said so. looks like the shelves are built to hold a big vise and if they held you that says it all.
also agree with DLC that was a cool idea for pulling speaker wire.
Have a great 2016

That's a great shop that you have there. Not too far away is an old garage that is sitting on a rural corner and every time I drive by it, I want it to be mine. There's just something about those old auto garages and yours is coming along very well. Your house and porch are beautiful too.
I don't think you should be so hard on Teflon tape though. It always works well for me and I do a lot of work with it.![]()
I've often thought the same thing - particularly if your keyboard skills are as slow as mine.
I love the look of those speakers Eric - I have some very similar looking ones (but mine are Radio Shack).
Great work.![]()

Nutts: my Dad wasn't fond of my music either. I think one night i fell asleep with Iron Butterfly's In a God a divida (sp?) playing and he wasn't happy when he came in my room to turn it off. i'm guessing by your remarks your music might have been a bit loud or a tune your Dad wasn't fond of or both.
i can't remember my kid's music ever bothering me maybe because i wouldn't let them play that RAP ****.
how's the weather this winter after that wet summer you had?
It just seems that teflon tape and I just don't get along. I usually roll it on the wrong way so it comes off as I'm threading the fittings together. Between that and it getting into a carb when I used it on fuel line, I try to steer clear of it.
Little tip though, never let it get on the first complete thread and you'll be alright.
