Rather than white Teflon (PTFE) tape you could try the yellow tape for gas line, it is double the thickness of the white tape and is less likely to fray than the white tape thus reducing the likelihood of strands getting into the liquid or gas stream in the pipe. Also when using the pipe dope on a joint that may have to come apart in the future you are setting yourself up for having to spend a lot of time cleaning out the threads. I've always done tape at home as it is just cleaner to work with and haven't had any problems. Now when I start my air line instal I may change my ways as I'll be using lots of unions.
