I took some pictures of the planters we decided to build. The problem is I want to obscure the harshness of the metal building and we brought in 900 tons of dirt so its quite a large jump up so - almost 3 feet - maybe more haven't had my coffee yet

This gives us a nice transition and I wanted you all to see the nice job the concrete guy did.

My concrete guy came by to talk about flipping the door around. We didn't leave the depression for the pavers and since the door will be flipped around I think you're going to see the concrete or steel.

Here is yesterday's timelapse. You will see some panels and wainscoting happen but the soffit work is the hard stuff and since it is on the opposite side of the building you don't really see it.

So yesterday the bear of a soffit was worked on along with more upper panels. Also the roof panels are starting to be put in place. Slowly coming together:

Great updates! I have learned a lot sorry to say from you trails and tribulations. I am in the market for a building the same size and now I know not to buy from the so called "steel building company's" and buy directly from the manufacturer. I did talk to Hornet Steel Buildings and got a quote that was very good and it included three roll up and an entry door. So that whole thing that Buck Steel couldn't supply doors was BS. Well worth cutting out the middle man. The quote that I got was the same as a lot others that I have gotten not including doors. So it pays to go directly to the manufacturer.

What are your thoughts on the building so far? How does the erector like the fit and finish? Thanks for your input.

Hey all! I was away at Sea Camp with my son for the past 4 days so I haven't had a lot to offer. I've been in contact with Buck Steel about my porch main beams not being covered. I was very specific when I explained that the soffit and fascia should coverall the red steel. I said "the only red steel that should be exposed is the vertical beams on the porch". Guess what? Thats not the case. Also this X bracing will be exposed. I contacted them and over a week later they said "my fault. Engineering looked and there is nothing that can be done". Well we all know that is BS. I don't know why they can't send me a piece of bent metal as a cap to wrap the 4 horizontal supports. Looks like I will have to come up with a plan b and determine how to be compensated.

And since I've been gone the porch wall was mostly covered. There was a snafu where the window openings they sent were not correct. I had to have a man come out and frame them out. I will get a pic of this. Again another costly screw up. I got a pic of the back wall as well which they are working on today:

There was a bad kink on the front of the building above the window. Without an extra panel this is a big problem. My suggestion it order at least two more panels in the longest length needed just to be safe. We ended up overlapping the panels opposite of normal so the kink is in back:

So my building had to be built up above the crown of the road (I think I addressed that earlier but as a reminder it has to be above to really bad air conditioned) anyway that made the building much higher from the lawn. The issue is when I look at the wainscotting you can see how gappy it is because of either the slab or the resting pocket for the bottom panels isn't straight. My installer said next time just run full panels one color and have someone paint the bottom half. Really not a terrible idea.

I'm thinking I will caulk those gaps either with cream color or brown color but it will be a challenge for sure.

My exhaust fan was installed on the west wall. The installer said oh yeah most of these are little units like 6 inches deep with a fan blah blah blah. I responded do I do anything small?

Bought some lights for the low area of the mezzanine:

They are pretty cool. I like the hyperikon product. I know they stand behind it. They have replaced a lot of bulbs I have had die over time within the 5 year warranty they offer. They are daisy chainable if I put them close enough to each other. The whip or cord that comes with them is small so I might just buy some line. I bought one to try and if it is decent I will outfit the rest.

The sheets were installed out of plumb. The result is sawthoothing.

Yes agreed. But I think a little of it has to do with the waviness in the slab. The bottom panel sits down in the track and then the upper panel goes above it and that can cause some issues. The panel could be plumb but the bottom is not level. I don't really care about the cause because it isn't going to get fixed. My installer continues to complain about the amount of effort to complete the job

By end of day tomorrow the roof and all wall panels should be up. That will be exciting... But he will draw another 40% leaving only 20% in which he needs to go do some other work which scares me he isn't going to come back

The erector is a primadonna so its hard to tell. At one point he told me the building is a big ugly building and doesn't really belong on my property. I tend to agree with him in many ways but as I see it come together I like it. If I had it to do over again I would tell you do not build a building with soffits. It is probably 70% of the work and really has made this a difficult job for my installer, cost my quite a bit in his fees and made the rest of the job suffer. I think the quality is there. These guys make me cringe with how they treat the panels. One other thing is that I don't like the trim on the man door. Its too small. Its only like an inch and its just proportionally wrong. I will come up with a solution to correct it in the future. I think for the window openings we will install the trim detail in reverse so the lip that would be behind the panel would be visible on the outside... Pictures to come.

Overhangs and soffits are the single most expensive options on a building. For the door and window trim you can have some trim bent and apply it over the J metal. It will look better.

If you have any pictures or examples of that please share! I am going to a custom sheet metal place monday morning in an effort to get the sheet metal produced to wrap the horizontal beams connected to the columns

You have R panel on the building so the trim is around 1 1/2" deep but you should check. Have an angle bent up that is 1 1/2" by say 3" with hems on both edges. Apply with color matched pop rivets.

A lot was completed yesterday. Unfortunately none of it on the gopro capturing the time lapse so I won't bother posting it to watch a bunch of guys run around. I took some pictures of the interior which will become the shop side of things.

Well not a lot to report on the erection of the building itself. Yesterday my contractor came by at the end of the day to cut out the windows. That is exciting.

So I had two contractors out yesterday. One is the plumber to extend the vent for the bathroom up through the roof. I wanted that cut so that the erector (who happens to be a metal roofing contractor) could seal it up before he finishes. Also I am working on preparing for spray foam insulation if that is what I decide to do.

The electricians came and pulled the main feed and installed the electricity so the building is officially alive! My gripples came today to hang the high bay lights and hopefully my friend will bring his scissor lift tomorrow for me to get that done! (I don't do ladders)

I did a time lapse of the electrical pull so I will post that. I used a gopro mount with double back tape to a magnet. I had NO idea how powerful this magnet is because the tape which is super heavy duty VHB pulled right off and the magnet is stuck! I can't budget it!

I went up to Dixie Metalcraft in Fort Myers on Wednesday. Prior to that I was running around trying to find matching paint for the brown. I discovered that Sherwin Williams charged me for two quarts when I only bought one and they used gloss which is well... too glossy. Always order your building with extra / spare touch up paint.

The guys at Dixie did me a huge favor and cut up and bent the pieces I needed for me while I waited. I had to go up there and select material - should I get bronze, white aluminum or a white primered. When I got there I choose the bronze. It looked really good - not perfect but good and I don't have to paint it. Now if I can only get my installer to come back and put them up. Below is the pics of the guys making the parts. I will get pics of the finished pieces in my truck bed. Despite the jerks at Buck Steel ignoring me the parts only cost me $252 but hours and hours of time trying to match paint and draw out the parts needed.

So we started to look at the high bay lights and discovered that the pigtails are super short. We have to open up each unit and extend the pigtails:

My framer is here to frame up the bathroom. We bought the cheapest tub / shower combo you can get. Its all one piece so hopefully no leaks. The price was $380 plus tax.

Beautiful building! Would there be a way to take a pic of someone under and on top of the mezzanine? Just to get a feel how tall it is?
