I had my 1939 General Tool catalog out to help Rileysan date a Herbrand roller, so I checked the pictures of the socket sets. Most have the rounded front corners on the lid like the one OTG posted just above, but the 74-1/2 set has the square corners and, like all the Herbrand sets, has the one long socket tray in the back. The difference is, all the Herbrand boxes have two flip latches in addition to the locking hasp. These appear to be missing from redtop's box.

Edit to Add: The 74-1/2 set is 1/2" drive. Also, most sets shown have round labels inside the lids, but one 1/2" drive set has a diamond-shaped label.

Here are pics of an unusually marked F5 sliding breaker bar. It has two logos. It has the logo from the early 1930's and the logo from the late 1930's. It was sold on ebay last December. It's not mine. I want one.

This one's a headscratcher. I request your help ... again. Below you will find images of two tools. The first two images show the usual FX11 3/8 12" extension. The next three images show an FX11 that appears to me to have been deliberately bent. Does anyone know why someone would bend an extension in this manner? I believe the bend would preclude the use of the tool with a ratchet in the conventional manner. I have a guess why the tool was bent. What do you think? I welcome you to share your opinions.

Does anyone know why someone would bend an extension in this manner.? It appears to me that the bend precludes the use of the tool with a ratchet in the conventional manner.
Looks like an L-handle, and it will work as an L-handle - grasping the shank near the female end and turning a socket affixed on the male end. So maybe someone needed an L-handle.

As you noted, the bend in the male end precludes turning the shank in its normal axis with anything - a ratchet, a female sliding tee, etc, which would just turn the female end in large circles like a baton.

But, like many L-handles (that were in actuality T-L handles), you could conceivably put something with a female opening (such as an extension, for example) on the male end, making a sort of T or tommy bar out of it, and turn the female end in its normal axis. That's how all vintage T-L handles worked.

Some of us have vintage T-L handles made by Hinsdale and Indestro with a sheath than you moved from the shank (for L handle position) to the end (for T handle) position like a handle. But those were double male ends.

EDIT: All typical L-T handles were double male end. That's what makes this one strange.

Some odd things like that could be special order. It would have an additional special part number though. Guessing someone wanted to use with a breaker bar or extension.

No, it isn't mine. I created the post because I believe that others may enjoy seeing pics of what appears to be a complete Super Service Set and a description of its contents. I posted the pics, the description, and the price of the tool set to allow others who are conducting online research regarding Super Service Sets to be able to view relevant portions of the ebay listing after ebay deletes it from its completed auctions section without resorting to purchasing a subscription from Worthpoint.

I believe that it would be very difficult to assemble a Complete Super Service Set today. One would have to find a case and all of the tools. I'm certain that it would be a daunting task (time consuming and expensive), if it could be accomplished.

You have a very nice collection of tools, OTG. Do you have a Super Service Set?

I was wondering how difficult it would be to find an empty Super Service Set tool box for sale. I discovered that it's not impossible. An empty Super Service Set tool box missing its handles sold on ebay in early January of this year for $499.99 plus $20.00 shipping. I do not know who bought it. Here's a link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SNAP-ON-SU...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Thank you for posting pics of your Super Service Set. It is impressive. I appreciate your sharing your knowledge of when the No. 7 was included in the set.

By the way, a year ago you indicated in a post on this thread that your No. 7 was not working properly. Were you able to fix it?

They are commonly sold somewhat complete. I think that one was sold on ebay before that for much less and then flipped. The collecting snap on website has a great article on them. Here is a 25 set. First year for the no.7 ratchet. Note no hanger hole at the end of the handle...I have not yet fixed it as there are a number of competing projects.

You can make the wire handles by using those old pipe bending springs. the older ones have thicker wire.

Wow, very nice. I talked to a man at Flywheelers who said he'd just sold a pre-date code 1926? set for 500 earlier in the day. He was unhappy with the amount.

I looked at that set when I was there. He wanted like 800 for it. not complete.
I did not buy it, I have all the examples (except maybe 40s) that I want.

800 is high for an incomplete set. Those sets were popular in the 20s. The later ones are a bit scarcer. I see snapmom has a rare mid 30s variant with a midget set. I have a 37 version. I have seen the 40s version with a 1/4 midget set and foolishly passed on it. The condition was not great but I doubt another will pop up.
