I've been on the hunt for proper grommet "feet."

These worked perfectly (see my pics, on the previous page) but I cannot find them listed online based on the numbers. The company is Serv-a-lite or Servalite, the info is in the pics.
As well, there are. They're specifically made for motor mounting. The size is a bit different. The price is decent.

:rocker:
Starting an order today!

Thanks!

I placed an order March 25 and received it yesterday March 26. I had a 'coupon' for $5 because I left items in my shopping basket on March 24. I applied the $5 towards UPS expidited shipping.

This is the 1st order I've placed with them. I won't spend $$ on special shipping again, I'm in SE MI, they are in IL. UPS ground will be fast enough from here on out.

Any way, here are some pictures of the new and orginal "Rubber Grommet"/feet.

New.

I want one of those cooling tray mounts. I don't need one but want one just because they're so cool.

You have any kicking around, TorqueMan???
They are a nice feature. I've seen them on the 3/4 & 1 HP Commercial grinders. The also hold the 'tool' rests. It is a 'base' that the grinder bolts to, and the 'base' then is mounted to a stand or bench; the base has it's own set of feet, but not like the one's for the grinder.

I am sorry to say, I don't have an extra to offer you.

BTW - I'm finally putting the finishing touches to the Go-Blue grinder. Yesterday, I added a fuse to the back. I'm headed out to the garage/shop to wire it up, install 8" wire wheels, label, and various pieces 'borrowed' from other donors. :)

My order won't be here until tomorrow. It's good to know that they'll work out. Thanks for posting the results. I had planned on doing the same, now I don't have to.

I like ordering from Zoro, they have a great selection to choose from, they're quick to ship, and they take paypal so I don't have to drag out my wallet and type in all those damned numbers every time I want to place an order. The hardest thing for me is waiting to gather enough small items to make the shipping less than the order total. :D I had originally found them on ebay. It took me several separate purchases to realize I could bundle items by ordering direct from their website instead. :tard:

Just noticed the block I bought today is branded "Craftsman commercial". Does that mean it's one of the industrial rated ones? What's the difference between the industrial rated ones and the others?

"Commercial" or "Industrial" typically means the grinder is dual voltage - 115/230 VAC, ...

1d555834-363a-4ec7-9ee7-7f814ca92933.jpg

but, not always.

025HP3971940CommercialGJIMG_3492-1.jpg

I think the dual voltage is only on the higher HP motors. Not sure where the cutoff is, I'll have to go look at my 1/2 HP Commercial when I get home.

Anyone know of a good toggle switch replacement? I'm switching from the rectangle paddle switch and there's a bunch of different options for a toggle, but I want to keep it simple.

Locally, most of the switches are 20A @ 125v, 10A @ 250V rather than 15A @ 125. I know it'll work but I thought I'd try to find the exact replacement first.

I converted the switch on this one since the other one died. I filled the rectangle hole by sandwiching two pieces of metal the same size of the on/off cover. Worked perfect.

Yea, I think, or would at least like to think there are other differences between the commercial and non versions besides voltage. One of these days I'll try to do a side by side comparison. :dunno:

Could the interior components be beefier as well ?

Your guess would probably be better than mine. I haven't taken them apart. Don't really want to, but am intrigued on the "commercial" selling point. :dunno: If you look in the old catalogs, there was a pretty good price difference between the two.

Other than taking the bottom plate off to clean and inspect, I'm terrified of dismantling electric motors ! I'll poke around, but don't really know what I'm looking at. :scared:

and a 1/3 HP "Industrial rated" single voltage 115V (Silver label, Jan 20, 1966)

If you can't find one from a donor grinder, then this tray may work for you :
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/quench-tray-p-972856.html

They're in the selling business. Not uncouth at all, they can always say no. Take the lighthearted approach. That way if they don't want to sell it you haven't ticked them off and can still haggle with them over other things.

Look like the ereplacementparts does not have the eye shields for these block grinder.:(

I haven't found a source for the framed shields yet. The all in one poly shields can be adapted from other labels if you can find one that fits your fancy.

OBTW - my order from zoro showed up this morning with the rubber grinder mounts. Mmmmmmmmmm - gotta love that new parts smell.

Happy, Happy ! Joy, Joy ! :bounce:

Nice, looks like what I did with the 3/4 HP one.

I think you're on the right track. The housings appear interchangeable. Perhaps, the guage of wires in the 'field' windngs, bearings, switch, other 'wear/consumable' parts? Do we have a volunteer to do a p/n compare between a 'Commercial' vs. 'non-Commercial' grinder of the same HP? :dunno:

They don't list all grinder models, but another model's shields may fit. See if you can come up with any shields, then post up the model number, I'll check to see if I have a match and measure them; then you can decide if the eParts piece will fit.
Here's a thread on Eye Shield Glass replacement, with a link to a member's use of McMaster Carr $16/ea

I wish I had seen that switch, earlier. Or, I should say, I wish I recalled it. I've only remembered the Bunn, and that looked too small (side-to-side width wise).

Do we need a CM Block Grinder thread or feature in this thread for the many great links to resources?

I maintain a file of often used & posted links, so I can find them easier than a site search.

Maybe a seperate thread with links to sites like:

Maybe EmeraldCoupe would be willing to post up something like that in his first post?

There's a bunch of good info in this thread... but there's also nearly 1200 posts.

Do you think maybe we would qualify for a sticky post? I was thinking thinking a list would be neat to record the new info on each of these grinders as we learn about them for everyone's reference down the road. I know vintage machinery has a sort of one, but lots of gaps.
I'm thinking about listing mine to help fill some of them.

Also, time permitting, I'll do a comparison of my herd to help shed light on the industrial difference.

I made some comments in Blue, below.
Do you think maybe we would qualify for a sticky post? It's got my vote, if that counts for anything. I was thinking thinking a list would be neat to record the new info on each of these grinders as we learn about them for everyone's reference down the road. I'm thinking about listing mine to help fill some of them. I need to do the same, I posts links to them enough. I need to pay some 'dues'.

Also, time permitting, I'll do a comparison of my herd to help shed light on the industrial difference. Thanks, that's the best way really; I have some of each, but they're different HP ratings and I get easily confused. :willy_nil

For me, simplicity is key. I'd think any new person would look at this thread before a sticky. I like that it's constantly evolving over here, too. Plus, it's something we maintain. If it were a full brand of machines instead of one type of product, I'd be more apt to agree with a sticky.

Tourque: are you doing the one picture on a post and going to drag this out for weeks like we saw the last few weeks with the brand new one?

works for me because looks like you did a hell of a job. nice work so far.

keep posting as you are able.

thanks for sharing and some of us didn't see the before pictures or don't want to scroll back to find them so if you can post those too with your new ones that would be great.

This is 1 that I've had to rescue, rehab, rebuild, and research. The label didn't exist. The sig. line guys are waiting their turn.

Torque, jamb up job . I can really appreciate the detail that you put into the electrical portion of it. I feel like I have a how to book now. I think the fuse is a great addition to the grinder.
Again great job!

Red: looks great and doesn't look like you missed a thing. just curious with all the rust on the wire wheel did you ring test the grinding stone?

by the way i like your Avitar too.

Tourque: i'll have to check out that thread on the Gazette when i have more time, but looks like you did a very nice restore of Big Blue. waiting for full size pics of the Big "M" now when you get some to post.

At speed, this beast makes nice whirring noises, and moves a lot of air around the bench!

The label says to use a Time Delay 15 Amp Fuse, better believe it.

Even if you have posted it before that is worth posting again. OMG that is a restoration. very nice job.

now is that the fuse in the back and was that your invention to wire it that way and have it accessible?

i'm not certain, but i have seen a few OSU and Michigan games so is the red in the water tray have any reference to an OSU color?

i have an almost new commercial 1964 with a stand that i'd trade you for yours in a minute if you ever get tired of that much power on your bench.

cheers

i still remember when MSU was #1 in the land and if i remember right Bubba played for them in 1967. so they weren't always a pushover for the team with the 100,000 seat stadium.

Here are a couple I saw at an auction about a year and a half ago. New, never used. in their origional boxes. IIRC they sold for $80 to $90 each.

Hi drive far;

Thanks!

The fuse idea came form a suggestion in a thread on OWWMs site.

Those guys really know their motors, so I thought it a worth while upgrade. Since it is not OEM, the label must be refering to the circuit protection device when circuit breakers weren't common? :dunno:

Haha, the OSU reference is just a welcome unitended consequence.

The fact is, I've seen that on a few, not all, commercial grinders and liked it.
Post #1 in this thread, in fact.
