Update:

Today, we completed the right side of the shop's mid-wall.
I parked the black rolling toolbox to hide the automotive related tools.


Cleaned up and straightened out the left side (fab area).
Need to install a few receptacles on this wall for the drill-press, grinder and MIG.

Next job is to build and hang a sliding door in the 56" wide opening.

Yeah. It is a bit flimsy.

Best I can figure, it's between 750-800 lbs., since I've added the lower shelf. The top is 3/4" plate steel. The legs are part of a crowd (boom extension) cylinder from a Galion Crane.

The vise also is heavy, like 51-lbds. Wilton Tradesman 1755.

Spent some time working on the awning support, for the south door.
These are 4"x4"x10' square tubing and are used for the uprights.



I drilled hole to install alignment tabs.



Clamped tab and welded in place.



Buffed and prepped for paint.



The gloss-black paint was allowed 3-hours to dry.

Installed one post onto the stub, which was set in place prior to concrete, then welded in place.



Second post will/should/maybe be installed today, along with a 2"x2"x~16' square tubing to tie the posts together at the top.

I got frustrated at having to run extension cords. Instead of working on the awning frame, I Installed three receptacles today.

One to power the drill press.



One to power the bench grinder.



Another to power the MIG.



I ordered 2-foot switches last Friday and they arrived after lunch today. I installed one on the bench grinder.


The second foot switch will be used on the table saw.

While installing the receptacles, I also installed a double-gang light switch and receptacle in the wood working side of the shop.

Yes, it is nice. And they're all grounded and wired correctly.

My son used to be a commercial electrician. Now he's an Instrumentation Designer. I've done my own wiring in the pass, but I ask him questions when I'm not sure about something electrical.

Fitted and welded the second awning post today.
I also installed the attaching material above the door.

In-between beers in the shop, I got bored and used some junk to make a MGH (MIG Gun Holder).

It isn't much but works just fine. Used a 3' magnet and an eye bolt/screw.
The welder is Red, so I painted it to match.

Next will be to install the metal joist and rafters.

Today, I ripped a few pieces of cedar boards to make stiles for the north door glass.
Wife helped by priming and painting the boards. She likes that type of thing.

Hopefully tomorrow, I'll cut them to length for installation.


While she was doing that, I fabricated a metal frame for a gate to be installed between the shop and house.


Buffed, sanded and primed. Ready for a couple coats of gloss black after hinges are welded in place. Later, horizontal cedar boards will be installed.

Late yesterday afternoon, I installed the dust-to-dawn lights on each side of the north door.
This pic was taken last night.


Today, the wife and I cut and installed the window stiles on the same doors. We also installed the lower weather seal on the doors.

Today, I picked up a couple sections of cypress boards (1"x12"x 6' and another 1"x12"x4').
I built shelving for the shop's west wall. The shelf brackets are made of a quarter-round automotive flex plate.







On the shelf below, I installed a 4' LED light on the bottom side.

Decided to clean up the old 4.5" HF vise, paint it and mount it to the corner of the work bench.
I used Chevy Orange because it was available.

With the great weather today (71° and sunny) I was able to work on the south door awning framework. I ran out of material, so I'll pick up more tomorrow.

I will have to climb on this frame to install the roof sheeting. It will need to support my fat ***.
Also, we're in a Hurricane corridor. Late one (Aug. 2021) delivered 145 mph winds.

I did more work on the awning frame this morning.


Added an additional horizontal tubing and angle bracing.



I hope the weather holds out for me to install the steel sheeting, trim and flashing.

The temperature was a bit warm today, but I was able to push onward.

I install the half-gable on the shop's south door awning today.
Climbing up and down a 10' ladder many times is not good for an old person's joints.




Hopefully, I'll finish this project tomorrow.

I wasn't too bad. It's used for storage only, so I'm not up there often.

I only went up in the loft once yesterday. The entire shop is insulated.
I did install a ceiling fan in the loft late last year. I have an oscillating fan up there also and it helps. I need to install the roof vent during this Winter.

Was planning on working on the awn today, but my Vertigo returned last night. Last time I experienced Vertigo, it took ~10 days for me to recover.
